To bring up the example of Metro 2033 again, while it does have female characters, there is a single named female character, the prostitute Nikki, and only two female characters with subtitled lines. Last Light brings that to a total of 2 named female characters, one of which is in the supporting cast as a love interest.
I guess it's better than the first book though, which I believe has a grand total of 2 direct spoken lines by a female (bit) character.
I certainly wouldn't consider myself femminist, but I found that as a series of really odd narrative decisions.
