Deus Ex.

And they're very retarded in trying to boycot Human Revolutions (easily 10 times better) too.

I think a lot of fans of console exclusives: like Gran Turismo 5 and the Halo series, there reactions to when they got 8's and 9's was hilarious but also a little scary to see how monstrous people can be when they are anonymous and something they like is 'bashed' in their
eyes.
It made me not want to buy either game.

"Honestly, I hate the Anti-fans. You know, the people who leap at the opportunity to insult some popular thing and in so doing insult the people who like said popular thing all the while acting all smug and self superior about themselves for doing so.
Even when in their criticism of said franchise/character/movie/book/game/band they accidentally reveal that they know absolutely nothing about what they are talking about and continue to act smug about it anyway.
(I.E Moviebob anytime he mentions Halo)

I mean you see hundreds of these people on youtube comment streams, eagerly demanding that everyone know how much they hate this band or this movie or this character, in other words actively seeking out things that they hate just so that they can let total strangers know how much they hate them. Seriously, this is so much worse than any fanboy could ever hope to be.

Hell most, if not all, of the time a fanboy rage is only brought on thanks to the anti-fans and haters in the first place. Hey, there would be less people angrily defending Halo if there were less people flaming it and by extension insulting the fanbase, people.
This isn't rocket science, a fanboy is a snake that is poisonous and deadly but won't bother you if you don't bother it, an anti-fan is the person poking it with a stick and saying the bands it likes are dumb.

So yeah in conclusion, the kind of fan I hate the most are the people who are fans of hating on other fans.... you heard me."
This is THE greatest post of all time. A perfect explanation of it all. It is all completely true as well.

Mass Effect 2 fanboys (in the extreme case often Talimancers)

They love the game with their whole being so they are genuinely frustrated when they hear any kind of criticism (no matter how constructive/ justified). These people are already absolutely certain Mass Effect 3 is gonna be the best thing since sliced bread.

Basically zealous worshippers of the Church of Bioware...

/generalization

So...do I have to start packing my bags, fellow Escapists? ;)

I've never understood why Halo has such die-hard fans; people get really arsey if you so much as say a bad word against it. I played it and never finished it, was the most generic shooter I've ever played. Half-life 2 wasnt all that either :\

I hate all fanboys, they give regular fans a bad name. But if I had to pick ONE in particular:

Valve. They've hit the perfect nexus of an annoying fanbase. Their material is not popular enough so that they don't have the same idiot 12-year-olds in the fanbase like CoD or Halo, but it's popular enough that when the fanboys attack, EVERYONE agrees with them. And because it's not as popular as CoD or Halo, they have this whole aura of non-conformist bullshit, making them one of the snarkiest, snobbiest, most elitist fanbases on the internet. And that's much worse than the kind with a fanbase of idiots.
This. Pretty much precisely my feelings on the matter.

And guess where most of said fanboys gather?

A certain website called the Escapist...

iv'e never really seen or heard a valve fanboy on a forum before. Maybe they exist because Valve has a history of developing good games? Or maybe IM a fanboy and my opinion is null and void.

That aside Cod, halo, gears, all final fantasy..>

and even tho i think i might be one, im going to say minecraft. it must be annoying for other people when i explain to them how im creating a huge portrayal of the flying spaghetti monster.

Later versions of the mario and zelda games. i dont see the point of obsessing over crap. I dont, however, mind fanboys/ girls of the old mario or zelda games because, well, they were fantastic. i also feel the same way about newer sonic games...

someone mentioned guitar hero? How does a game like that get fanboys? its more of a party element than anything else. he whatchu guys wanna do? umm play like shit on this game to waste time while we get wasted...

Guuuhh i forgot to quote and i dont know who im replying to...

I'm probably doing exactly what you were foreseeing in your mind's eye or whatever, but whats wrong with steam? i hear people complain about it, but no one i actually know. and my steam runs fine.

as a side note, when you dissing minecraft in front of the fanboys, your dissing every single one the the fanboys' 60ft golden cock n balls masterpiece, which they wasted much of their lifetime creating. People get extremely agitated when you make fun of something that took them so long to complete.

Kingdom Hearts. I used to be a fangirl but I grew out of it. After going on Fanfiction.net and seeing over 50 thousand KH fan fiction, I was worried.

Also Final Fantasy. OMGCLOUDXSEPHIROTHOMG >_<

Like, now, I am a fangirl of Dead Space, Modern Warfare 2, and Resident Evil. Sure, I may write fanfiction and draw fanart, but god damn I'm not totally obsessed enough to have pictures all of my wall

[sub]that doesn't count for My Chemical Romance though...[/sub]

You know, as shocking as this may be to accept, most 'fanboys/girls' of popular game franchises really aren't as bad as people say they are. For the most part we aren't a bunch of drooling blood crazed internet terrorists who oppose the concept of free will and hence go around viciously flaming anyone with even the slightest implication of an opinion that differs to us.
For the most part, internet 'fanboys' are really just people who like a video game/franchise a whole lot and like to mention it and discuss it with friends. Most of the 'angry fanboy rants' I've seen are basically the end result of other people trolling them. Not them trolling other people.

*SNIP*
First off, i wish i could rant like you. My rants seem so shallow and biased, and are nearly always filled with grammatical errors.

and... you're absolutely right, but i would always slap the stupid idiot who goes on about his game before the guy who provokes him because at least that guy can spell. I live in a place where people specifically talk, type like absolute retards to provoke people into fights and whatnot, so when someone online types in 1337 or just without any concern for the others who have to read their absolute crap, it gets to me.

IMO people do this because a) they want their opinions heard, and b) they want everyone to think the same way they do and they will argue their little heart out until that dream becomes a reality. People like being right and they like people who agree with them. Its also fun to argue because it gives you a good feeling when you've beaten someone with words and proven your point.

Every fanboy ever.

There's a difference between a fan and a fanboy. I've encountered some that are just insane and defensive, who can't accept the fact that some people don't consider a game/movie etc. the great artistic endeavor ever crafted by mankind.

I can't really single it down to one thing, but an honourable mention off the top of my head would be the Valve fanboys that consider them their jesus of gaming, like they've never done a single thing wrong and always listen to their fans etc.

If they listen so much where is Episode 3? I know it's cOLD to bring that up now, but seriously... I want it as well, I love Half Life. But to say Valve are some amazing company that isn't like "all those other corrupt ones" is just ridiculous. They're a company too.
They are different in a way. The take 10 times as long to bring out a game but usually its of a pretty high quality. And when people talk about the bad gaming companies their talking about the profit organisations. Case in point, The Sims, which splits one game into 7 pieces and charges 200 dollars for the lot.

Frankly I've seen some more aggressive attitude delivered from the people who hate on said fanbase then the fanbase themselves. I mean come on this whole thread is basically just a way to passive aggresively insult entire groups of people and label them under a stereotype to justify it.
Very well said!

Not sure if any of you guys actually play WoW but the vast majority of players in game and on the forums spend all their time complaining about how much it sucks.

I know it sounds strange but if WoW didn't have a sub less people would play. A lot just stick around since they're already paying for it or have payed for X amount of the expansions.
Don't forget that the majority are casual gamers who enjoy bitching and WoW seems happy to appease them by creating each new expansion to their fans specifications. Too bad the only people they listen to are the people who complain, who suck at the game in the first place.

Yeah i know the first sentence is probably a fat out lie, and maybe the rest of it but hey, no one listens if you don't exaggerate.

Also valve arent that great, they make goo games, but christ, HL2 is an ovverrated peice of shit, and lets face it the character has 0 personality, even halo has more personality, and L4D wasnt that great. And all I ever hear about TF2 is fucking hats.

You cant comment on halo fanboys anymore imo, bungie has moved on, halo wont be an issue, M$ will make a new one, even the halo fanboys will hate it.
Judging from the view levels of campaign i played in halo 2, which IMO were shallow and boring, it is quite obvious that on the whole there is a lot more personality in HL2 than in Halo. no one has a personality in halo (IMO) whereas in HL2 all the main characters are fleshed out quite well (am i even using the right terminology?) and even some of the non important characters that help you out in the missions seem to have a personality, even if it isn't as full on as that of the main characters.

I'm starting to sound like a fanboy, which i probably am by your standards, so here goes. Overrated? yes, by some people, not all. some people will go overbored saying it is the best game evaa. it is a good game but there is no 'best game evaa' because everyone has different opinions on games. piece of shit? not really. well designed, good gameplay, and listening to the commentary (don't judge you sadistic wench rabbit) you can tell that they spent that heap of time they had on their hands finding out what the players did in their game, finding out what they wanted, and adding small touches- shit fanboy again....

Yeah, got to go for Valve fanboys.

If they're not looking down on you for buying Left 4 Dead or Orange Box on 360 instead of the 'master race gaming setup' they're constantly shoving Portal references down your throat.

everyone with a strong opinion that i do not share is clearly either a fanboy or troll; and thusly, they're all annoying.
