I also think WoW has a lot of really obnoxious fanatics associated with it. When I was in high school probably the biggest frustration I faced in grades 10 and 11 was the fact that I hated WoW and everyone else loved it.

It got so bad that I actually had to write a 6500-word essay on why the game sucked, print out a bunch of copies, and then hand it out to each person that tried to argue "WoW has the best graphics" or "WoW is the most fun game ever". The essay was essentially a rebuttal to every single point anyone ever suggested to me.

Of course it's my opinion, I fucking said it.

You know, I miss the days when people had the reading ability to infer things for themselves without others having to spell it out for them.
Just because you said it, does not mean it is necessarily your opinion. Intellectual discourse does not work that way.

For instance I say to you: Triangles have three sides.

That's not my opinion, that's what a triangle is defined as. You speak subjectively, but with objective terms. This is not an issue with anyone else's reading ability or lack thereof.
If someone says something on a matter of subjectivity, they should not have to clarify after every bloody statement that it is their opinion, SINCE YOU'RE DISCUSSING ENTIRELY IN OPINIONS.

If they say something on a matter relating to facts and objectivety, then yes, they probably should clarify certain statements as opinion/obvservation if they don't have any real evidence to back it up.

So yes, it is a matter of inference (and people's inability to use it). My response was regarding a matter of opinion (why people like something) and was an answer based entirely in opinion. I shouldn't then have to go out of my way to clarify it as opinion for someone.

Kingdom hearts, the die-hard fans of that series practically invented that accursed word "bishie".

Final Fantasy VII for sure. (Aaaaand I'm going to die in 3-2-1.)
Speaking as a massive FF7 fan i've got to say...yeah there's a lot of fanboy obsessing over FF7. I love the game but i can't help but cringe when someone's arguing how 'OMG IT R TEH BEST GAME EVAR!!!' on internet forums and the like.
On another note, my own personal pet hates are halo fanboys, just because of the uber-competitive stance they always take.

I'm gone through 5 pages of this thread trying to think of any time I've met an obsessed fan of any game, and I'm drawing a blank. I've heard the stories and all of the ones here, but I personally have never met someone like this--either online or in real life. I've met some stupid people in online games, but none that spout their favorite game like the Gospel.

Now, I have met Twilight fangirls, but that's not a game.

We're all guilty of being quite Fan boy/girl-ish to something; without even realising it.

But, if we're talking about those who are "Omfgzzz Halo roolzz/VALVE is da best1!!11/Fuck U COD owns "

Then, well.. CoD, Halo, Valve, WoW, FFVII, Half Life... I don't mind people being huge fans of a game, obviously, hell, it's nice talking to people who know a lot about the game and are really intrested in it.

IT's just the assholes who don't know what they're on about or are following a little crowd for some odd reason.

PC elitist fanboys to be honest. More so than console fanboys. Probably because they manage to sound so sickeningly smug with themselves

EDIT: If we're talking games exclusively, then probably Bioware or Valve fanboys. Due to the same smugness with PC fanboys.

I hate all fanboys, they give regular fans a bad name. But if I had to pick ONE in particular:

Valve. They've hit the perfect nexus of an annoying fanbase. Their material is not popular enough so that they don't have the same idiot 12-year-olds in the fanbase like CoD or Halo, but it's popular enough that when the fanboys attack, EVERYONE agrees with them. And because it's not as popular as CoD or Halo, they have this whole aura of non-conformist bullshit, making them one of the snarkiest, snobbiest, most elitist fanbases on the internet. And that's much worse than the kind with a fanbase of idiots.

I love Valve. Their games are awesome. But I DESPISE Valve fans.

Bloody Mass Effect fanboys.

Every third serious thread on this site seems to be filled with masses of them all worshipping Tali and recounting their exploits on the last mission of Mass Effect 2.

God help you if you're waiting to buy the damn game, they'll make sure you know every little detail and spoiler as they fight over which female character is the hottest after Tali...

/endrant.
I completely agree because i am one of those mass effect fanboys!

Halo and Call of Duty. Any mention of one being better than the other anywhere on the Internet or in public discussion usually ends up in flames.

And a special mention to Final Fantasy VII. I still can't understand why it gets so much dedication considering its nearly 14 years old...and looks like a LEGO game.

CoD fans. Tried to introduce one of my buddies (who is a CoD fan) to Bioshock....

He couldn't follow the story and he left because the gameplay 'sucked so hard'

Also, Mass Effect fans. It's not my type of game, but every fanboy of MA i've told says something like,

"OMG try it again!"

"It's sooo good."

Not everyone loves space RPGS...

People pass opinions as facts all the time, I was just making sure.
