There was an old vertical scrolling shooter I played once, I cant remember the name of it for the life of me. But the thing I remembered most about it was that you didn't JUST collect powerups for better weapons and added firepower. Your ship would start off fairly small, but you'd pick up parts that would add to your ship and increase its size. No, you didn't just 'grow', the pieces added on to you individually, so that there would be no resolution issues I suppose, and yes this made you a larger target but it also gave you more armor.
I loved it! but the name.. the name is gone.. I haven't seen ANYTHING resembling this kind of ship growth in over 15 years. No games making throwbacks to such a design (DarkStar One does not count, *shudder*)

The system we played on was a Golden China console (basically it was a South African (YESIMSOUTHAFRICAN) knockoff of the NES since it had all the classics, donkey kong, super mario brothers, excite bike, islander, tetris, pinball and a smorgasbord of other games).

If anyone can identify this old gem I'd be extremely grateful.

I remember one that im intersted in remembering. it was at my dentists office where they had a cabinet set up wit ha genesis inside, and there was this game that started with your character flying in a ship, then the engines just seem to stop working. you crash, then it goes to your heart rate, where it eventually flatlines. then OMG IT COMES BACK ALL JAGGED AND SQUARED OFF! YOUR A CYBORG NOW!!! so, yeah, you are in some kind of fighting game where you pick a laser, saw or machine gun , possibly among others, i could only figure out how to even use the laser. you pick a body type, and fight with cpus or another person. thats ALL i remember.

Theres this demo of a game that i played in a ps1/ps2, You where some kind of winged guy in some kind of kingdom, at the beggining, your called to a tower with a massive hole in the middle and in a throne was sitting a king or something, only to get your wings ripped off and thrown into the hole...

Then the guy turns in some sort of "banshee" with glowing yellow eyes and a scarf covering his face that can suck souls when he pulls it down.

Damn that was a good demo

Warning: extremely vague descriptions ahead.

There's two games I'm struggling to remember from when I was younger - one was a game similar to Civilization (perhaps even of the earlier ones?), and contained Howitzers, Fighters and Bombers among other units. The terrain looked pretty low quality - just blocks of green to designate farmland or whatever. I've tried looking up Civ games containing the Howitzer unit but it's a bit vague and very few of them contain screenshots, so if anyone could help I'd appreciate it.

The other one I only have a very fleeting memory of. It was some sort of Wolfenstein 3D/Doom-style game, with near identical graphics and gameplay. The only difference was that there were some sort of door blocking mechanisms that seemed to be bolts of lightning going from roof to floor that could be turned on or off. There were enemies dressed in what appeared to be white lab coats, and when you were shot the camera automatically turned to show the enemy. If I remember rightly it also had a Wolf 3D-style HUD at the bottom, too. Sorry about the ridiculously vague description, but that last one I played when I was about five years old with my sister...

...appreciate the help if anyone knows what they are, or has any ideas. Cheers.

There was a game on one of the demo discs i owned for Playstation 1.

You played as a monkey-warrior thing with a staff. You started in a mine and went on to a library and fought green jelly things. Kinda like an RPG.

It was a JRPG on the PS1. It had a tactics battle system(Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea). I remember there was some sort of Deity sytstem thing where htere were elementalish things that were worshipped and prayed to in the game and each character was associated with one or prayed to a specific one or something like that, I can't remember if you could change which one the player characters had or not. The main character started with the fire one as default I believe.

I realize this isn't very descriptive, but if someone could help it would be much appreciated, my dog chewed the disc shortly after I bought the game and it's popped up in my head from time to time ever since.

Thanks, haha such an obvious name.

Anyway i have another one, for the SNES (god dammit why'd i sell it??)

You play as a kid and he has an uncle or something. You go throughout Japan (i think) and you have to save some cat or something. The first boss was a ghost and you there were ghost versions of some places.

There was also a maze/gameshow or something, man that game was fun! I think it had the word "ninja" in the title, i could be wrong.

Was a game a friend from Sweden sent me a link to. You play it online; you're a little gnome type thing who lives on a little asteroid (I think that's what it was) and your dog gets taken by aliens. So you go on this little adventure to get him back, all progression based on what things you click on the screen.

Very bad description, but the game looked realistic in the sense all the locations looked like someone had taken a picture of a mossy log or some other real life item and used that for the layout.

The name of the game was in a foreign language and I can't for the life of me remember what it was >_<
Samorost 2, I think.
That was it! Thank you so much :D

I have ONE game i cannot remember the name of, but it was incredibly old (8 years ago?) and you controlled a tank, it was set in the kinda future, cos i remember...lasers and the like. I only played the demo, but it was quite hard, and it was a snow level. Thats all i remember :(
Sounds like Incoming. I used to love that game. I think the demo started in the snow and you had to destroy weird, silver alien bases with a tank. And that was a hard level. There were other levels where you'd fly helicoptors and planes and stuff.

Search bar approved - found things similar about what you miss IN games, but not actual games.

Now I'm doing this because you're all the knowledgable sorts on games (I'd like to think so anyway), therefore it would make sense to come here.

Anyways, I remember playing this old, old JRPG/RPG where you ran round a city and into forests etc. The colours were seriously bright, like grass was acid green. Near the start, you'd pop out to the forest and fight worms mostly for the start of it. Seriously can't remember the name of it, any help would be appreciated on what game this is :)

If anyone else has this similar problem, post them in this thread - somebody in the community is bound to know what game you're talking about :)
I dunno if you got an answer for this but Guardians Crusade?
Yeah!!!! :D Now to source one on eBay :p Thanks! :D :D :D

I remember a game I played on the Playstation at a friends house ages back, which you took control of a bullet or a missle and had to guide it through an obstacle course to the end.

I'm not too bothered about it though, I found all my distant childhood games, including The Neverhood, Rats!, Super Mario All-Stars, Street Racer and some more I don't remember.
Could it be part of Rayman 2? (or even 3 but that isn't that old) You had to direct a flying barrel/missile/thing through a weird obstacle course.

I vaguely remember an old 3D platformer for the PS1. It was a lot like Spyro, you were a red(I think) dragon that resembled Yoshi and I think you collected diamonds. Other than that I have no idea.
Maybe Croc 1 or 2? A green crocodile guy who kind of looked like Yoshi. You collected diamonds and there were little brown fur-ball people. I still play that :D

I was about to type this:

I remember this old horror game that was really hard, with a protagonist named Dave and a really simple title. It was an old side-scrolling horror game on DOS and was awfully scary (and hard) thanks to every monster insta-killing you, giving you a nice and gory death animation and sending you back aaaall the way to the start of the level.

It started off quite tame with zombies and knife throwing witches, but at one point you get super-fast face-melting slimes and werewolves. I never got past level 3 or 4.

But then I remembered it, Dangerous Dave 2:
Ahhh the memories.

No problem, I do this really often. I have no idea why I can I never actually played the game.

You'll be looking for a pink disc if I recall haha.

Oh man, about 5 years back or so my friend played this RTS where you were sort of underwater and there was three factions, some squidlike, human, and some other that were fighting to control mineral areas and whatnot under the sea. I'm not sure what the game was, or if that's even correct, but dang did my friend school me many times over in that game.
