Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 most recently. Neither of them are bad, but they're very middle-of-the-road, especially when compared to their predecessors.

Splinter Cell: Conviction too. Why am I being attacked by a gunship and being actively forced to fight enemies head on? Why is everything so linear? Why is Sam no longer built like a fucking grizzly bear? What's the point in being mostly a loner if I get better gear than the special forces I'm facing?

At least the original concept seemed to devoted to doing stealth, even if it was different.

Final Fantasy XIII. The plot had so many holes, that I just can't count them.
Only three of six playable characters were good (Lightning, Sazh and Snow, if you are interested), others were made poorly.
The stat upgrade was too simple.
Plus, why there was no MP?

napoleon total war and to a less extent empire, was a total let down for me,

its the main reason why i still have not got shogan 2 yet, im waiting for it to go on a major sale. than ill get it, doesn't even matter if its the best total war game ever made or to ever be. they wont get my money for it in tell its under 10 bucks.

i love empire, but was but hurt by them lieing about the multiplayer campaign, than only to release a beta of it not to long before napoleons release and never bothering to make it work properly.

im still waiting for my proper etw multiplayer campaign, it was a super cool idea, and i love the etw feel.

Spore, it just got worse as it went on, it was buggy as hell and then main feature which was that the universe would be filled with others creations didn't work (for me atleast).

Fable 3, i played Fable 2 which i borrowed from a friend a few weeks before and i loved it Fable 3, too easy, too repetitive, too short and too many bloody collectables.

My biggest disappointment in recent years would have to be Brutal Legend.
I was expecting a fun action/adventure based on metal and while I did get this, it was marred with horrible unplayable non-skippable strategy sections that only served as an explanation of why RTS from an over-the-shoulder perspective are a bad idea.
I would have liked the game a lot more if the RTS sections were not there, or at least offered a top-down view. Why not? Just let the protagonist sit in a command tower over the stage (or later, fly) so the player can focus on the actual RTS instead of running around like a mindless chicken without any clue of what is really going on.

Before that, probably Dreamfall. There is a good game hidden somewhere in it, but the controls are just not good in that game. I would judge it less harshly if it weren't the followup to one of my favourite games of all time, The Longest Journey. I was expecting another TLJ or at least a really good adventure game, but what I got was an action/adventure with bad controls and dragged out combat sections, with a storyline that is obviously the second part of a trilogy so it has no conclusion. It's now years later and there is still no sight of TLJ3.

Also Spore. I wasn't expecting a great game, but I was at least expecting something fun where my choices mattered. Spore simply didn't deliver on any aspect. What is the point of making us choose between upgrades if we can freely change them at any stage? And why couldn't there be any random missions for the lifestages other than the MOO-wannabe Space Stage?

breath of fire dragon quater i loved to death the first 4 breath of fire games even know BoF 4 ranks as one of the best games I've played. Then they came out with dragon quater with a limit on the number of time you could save and the game would kill you quicker if you used the dragon transformation. Not to mention they turn Nina into a human air filter

Fable 3, however Fable 2 should of been a good enough warning for me, will I never learn? Hell, if they announced a Fable 4 I'd still be super excited... I'm such a total loser, lol.

I have to admit, Spore sprang to my mind first as well. But, enough has been said about that one to not go over it yet again. So, how about Darkspore?

I saw the gameplay videos of it and I thought it looked really interesting. I was excited for a Spore game where my creative skills would matter when it comes to how the game plays. After playing the beta for the game, I was sorely disappointed in what I found.

Let's start with the gameplay. A hack and slash RPG needs to have some character development/advancement in order for me to stay interested. A good way to do this is gain more powerful/new moves or combo attacks, for example. In Darkspore, you get a grand total of three abilities as well as one passive that affects all active heroes in multiplayer. While one of the three abilities is shared with the squad, these abilities are unchanging. The only difference between the starting abilities and ending is their damage due to scaling with hero level, which is determined by the item level of things pasted onto your hero. So, you have the same moves at the very beginning with the hero as you will in the end. This made gameplay very repetitive and boring for me.

Perhaps this move was to promote the use of more than one hero. But, outfitting more than a couple heroes was made very tedious. In order to outfit them, you would have to load up each hero in the creature editor and paste on their objects. While this doesn't sound bad at first, remember that squads are three heroes and you're encouraged to have several squads due to the different types of darkspore you'll encounter in the various missions. Plus, different heroes use different stats for their abilities. So, you'll have to spend even longer figuring out if any of the armor/peices you picked up are even an upgrade for that hero before moving onto the next one. Tedious.

What I would have killed for was the ability to create my own heroes instead of using the same pool of base heroes as everyone else. It felt as if they really missed the boat on that one. Considering how simple it was to share creatures in Spore, they could had worked out something for Darkspore. But, maybe it is something they are waiting for the expansion pack to address.

Also, what multiplayer loot-fest doesn't have a trading system? Granted, it was a beta. But, considering the developers were "considering the idea" made me wary of the game when it made it to retail.

Oh Maxis, what happened to you?

Fable III (doesn't mean I don't like it though), Halo REACH and only slightly disopointed with Alan Wake (though it was my personal GOTY last year)

I know that it hasn't come out yet and I really want myself to be wrong but...
Duke Nukem Forever...my god I WANT it to be a good game but I just feel that unless this game was in fact created by both angels and demons simultaneously it will not live up to the hype...dear god I hope i'm wrong!
