Games you couldn't wait for that turned out to be huge disappointments.

Being rather far away from the normal western release areas (and not really the type to follow much gaming news), I generally either don't hear about new games until after they're released, or hear about them but forget because it takes so long for them to be released here.

That said, I was really looking forward to Spore. I had nagging doubts that it couldn't possibly be as good as the hype was promising (and nowhere near as good as what I was picturing in my head), but it still sounded great. The reality... well, minus all the hype it's not a bad game (although the civ stage is pretty lame), but it definitely didn't live up to its press.

Civilization 5. It has so much promise, great new combat system, social policies, better diplomacy and more stuff for builder players. But, instead we got an incredibly unbalanced game with no diplomacy to speak of, an AI that ruined the combat system, where war was th eonly option that didn't result in being bored to death, and sitll no Hotseat multiplayer.

Epic Mickey and Spore are two minor examples. I still enjoyed both of the two, but they could have been so much more.

[HEADING=2]FIREWARRIOR.[/HEADING]

Fucking up a Warhammer game is a monumental waste of potential, and Kuju achieved just that.

Thank god Dawn of War came along.

Well first of all there's fable2, I got swept up into the hype so much for that game and it was just terrible (in my opinion) even if I wasn't so hyped up for it I still would have hated it. fable3 was pretty lacklustre too but I was kinda expecting it to be.
Oblivion was slightly disappointing, i still enjoyed it but i wasnt nearly as immersed as i was in morrowind.

Most recently was Brink, but most spectacularly was Halo: Reach.
I feel real bad for my friend though, got the super special 160$ edition.
I don't know why, I have a friend who's the biggest halo fanboy ever and he thinks it's the best one, possibly only matched by halo 1.

Mercenaries 2 and Mass Effect 2 are the only ones that spring to mind. That'll teach me to expect anything from sequels.

Fable 3 and Dragon Age 2. That'll teach me to pre-order games
I don't get Fable 3. unless you were upset it was too similar to Fable 2. But I wonder then why you would preorder it...
Because I was nostaglic for Fable 1, which I thought was one of the best games for the last generation of consoles. And even tho Fable 2 wasn't nearly as great it looked like Lionhead Studios had seen their mistakes and fixed them. But alas, they did not and all we got was a disapointing, too early released game. Which was another thing that bummed me, there was so many errors and little bugs and glitches. And the story was pretty half-assed too, they should've worked on it for a year before they released it. :(
this! ^ fable III made me cry (ok not really but it really upset me just how bad it was)

oh and The Force Unleashed II, I'm not saying the game play was terrible... just four hours seems a little short to me for a game!

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. just a bad, boring, dull game.

But, the one that disappointed me was BMX XXX. I was expecting something so horrible that I wouldn't be able to put it into words, but it was just blah. I was really hoping for something that I could put into my collection of god-awful games, right next to Drake of the 99 Dragons and Kakuto Chojin.

Test Drive Unlimited...everything was bad, the racing was cheap, the freerom was limited, bearly, money is annoying, gliches sucked, bad story, online was down the first week...if it was improved I would buy it but it is the worst racing game I have EVER seen, MORE like Test Drive Limited.

I was expecting me to get out of my car and walk and chat to people, mabey more enterable buildings like bars, clubs, fight clubs, gun clubs. I could think of so many more ways to make this game better.

*Sigh* What a pain this game was!

Metal Gear Solid 4
The gameplay threw everything Tactical out of the window so the Espionage felt lackluster and boring, and the Action wasn't any better. Seriously, who the hell makes a sneaking game where you have practically infinite ammo on all weapons, including a freakin' silenced tranquilizer gun, and just shooting your way through is actually simpler than using stealth. Kojima and co. sure do, and they are happy to do it again (I'd put Peace Walker here too, but MGS4 kinda adjusted my expectations).

I also thought the story was shit, but to me that's just nitpicking when the game itself is so messed up.

Kingdom Hearts II
Funnily I had pretty much the same problems with this as I had with MGS4. The game was just a mindless buttons masher so all the options and abilities felt like a bit of a joke. Birth By Sleep actually redeemed this one, though.

I think mine are a bit older than most,

Tron 2.0
XIII
Revenant

and slightly more recently Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, they stated it would be based on the books and therefore not a movie tie-in, it's just a shame that it wasn't anywhere near as good as it could have been.

The Witcher 2. It seems like its a really good game, but the combat system is so foreign to me every single fucking encounter usually takes between 2 and 10 reloads, on the easiest difficulty.

Also, Dragon Age 2 with the opposite problem. Combat gameplay was pretty sweet, but the storyline and general execution of the game just seemed lazy and uninspired.

Mind you, they're both still pretty decent games, they're just not blowing me away as I had hoped for.

Final Fantasy XII. All I'm going to say was that it just wasn't fun. At all.

Also, I'm Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca. Don't believe Ondore's lies!
That part still makes me laugh every time I play it.

Also my answer... FF13, waited 4 yrs, never have I been so disappointed in a game.

Hearts of Iron 3.

I was expecting something I could sink hundreds of hours into like the first two games. Instead I got a buggy irritating mess I still haven't managed to really get around to giving another chance.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee.

I was a raging Oddworld fan back in those days and I couldn't wait for the first 3D venture. Little did I know the developers got rid of all the atmosphere and imagination of the previous games to make it happen.
