I bought Resident Evil from the Playstation Store, seeing it as my chance to get into the series from the beginning.

To sum it up in one word: disappointing.

To sum it up in several paragraphs: SEE HERE, under "SECOND GAME:. [http://lekonua.deviantart.com/journal/25134795/]

I'll try to finish it for no other reason than to get it over with, but I haven't touched it in a week.

Did you play resident Evil 1? cause that is really outdated. Try 2 or 4; they`re the most approachable. The Resident Evil remake for gamecube (dont know if the wii port is available in in the western hemisphere) with sick graphics and a better voice acting is the way to go for the first one.

The Metal Gear Solid games...
Really, there are enough game mechanics that seem to be specifically designed to break the player out of the immersion.
Basically the whole series seems to me like a document of bad game design.
In Metal Gear the stealth system is pretty fun to screw around; I imagine it`s the hour+ codec scenes that make you want to smash your console. Play the game in a zen state, not expecting anything to be going anywhere fast. If you want raw game play then give Tenchu a try.

Fallout 2 and 3.

Fallout 2 was a predictable victim of my having just finished gorging myself on Fallout 1 - a more tightly-focused and finely-crafted game at the narrative level, by all accounts. I think if I come back to it later with a bit of patience I'll get more out of it.

But Fallout 3 I really expected to like. The little things put me off: moving around the landscape was not that exciting to me; inventory management was a chore; the layout of everything in the world left me constantly disoriented and anxious that I was "missing things"; and the brown/grey pallet started to get to me.

I got out of the Vault, went to Megaton and a few minor settlements, and then just stopped playing for... well, months now. Didn't mean to, I just haven't gone back.

I'm enjoying Fallout 1 right now, but I can easily see how somebody would grow frustrated; the game isn't the most polished experience.
Ohhh yeah. Aside from the frustration of the game mysteriously not playing on some people's computers for reasons nobody can figure out (and don't try asking at the NMA forums, unless you're wearing a flameproof suit), if it does work for you, you need to download about six or eight different patches to bring it up to where it should be as a polished, finalised, proofread game. It's worth it though.

KOTOR 1 + 2
Guitar Hero/Rock Band series
Starcraft

I love love love Mass Effect, but KOTOR feels like a slower paced, less interesting version of it.

I know the casual music games are all the rage nowadays, but I have yet to enjoy one.

I'm a huge Blizz RTS fan, playing WC2 and 3:TFT for god knows how many hours, but for some reason I never got into Starcraft.

I guess FFXII. I really wanted to like it. I forced myself to play about 50+ hours and was probably near the end and I just said," Eh, to hell with this. Not really fun and I don't care about the story. Pretty lame."

Every time tried to play I felt as if I could be doing something of higher significance.
To me it seemed like a job.
Quoted for truth.

Being decent at games, I had one friend that recommended 2D fighting games and other who suggested Go to have someone to play against. Took me a really like time for me to come around but once i did i got really sucked it.

JRPG`s are the games i can`t get into. sure the story maybe good, but i don`t like having to sit through random turn based battles, leveling, and other various crap to proceed through the story. I might as well watch a movie or read a book.
Also I never got into CS. Halo or something with a campaign mode introduces the engine and gives you a nice difficulty curve to improve your skills. Even if you suck; you don`t feel too far removed from better players. Also it`s intuitive enough you can pick up a controller and get a sense of what`s going on. Logging on to a CS server and getting one minute into the beginning of each round while i was still trying to figure out the controls and why the gun didn`t shoot where the cross hair was really turned me off to it. It`s a very unforgiving game to start off.
JRPG's for me too, when I was WAAY younger they were definately my favourite genre, but I don't have the patience for them now for some reason, which is strange because im now into turn based strategy games...

FFXII.
I couldn't get into it, it felt like a History lesson.
I beat it, but didn't enjoy doing so...to much regurgitation of cliches, and everything in that game had been done much better in a different way. Offensive magic and summoned creatures were pretty much a joke- the "limit" system didn't have any individual creativity- the liveliness of the combat was nice (but, gasp- Star Ocean does it better), and wasn't worth the fact that the best way to beat things was just cast Haste and Bravery on your front line and watch them beat your foes into submission.

You pretty much hit the head on the JRPG problem for me Sonata Seed.

Final Fantasy games and Fallout 1 and 2. I am ashamed of myself as an RPG fan.
Try 3.
Bioshock got me stuck in one of the maps and it was boring before that, so I never touched it again.

KotoR 2.

I just finished the first one the other day, and after trying the second, it just feels too... different. I don't even know why, but I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as I did the first.
Once you get off peragus, things pick up a bit, but the story is still a bit messed up because of their time shortages

New Final Fantasy games... They don't seem to be as fun as I remember them being when I was younger, saying that, I probably wouldn't have that much fun playing Final Fantasy VII or VIII now if I started playing them again. Also, Assassins Creed was only fun for a couple of hours then it got way to repetitive...

Oh, I'm already on Telos. I'm thinking of just waiting until Project Gizka's restoration mod is complete to play it... maybe that'll be what I'm looking for.

Mass Effect(barely started), Bionic Commando, Crysis Warhead, Kotor 1&2, and the list goes on and on. I don't really have too much time for games anymore. I also have a hard time really getting into any mmorpg because they're all so excruciatingly boring.

For me I want to enjoy Mass Effect but can't, because of the combat.
How far along are you in the game. The combat actually gets a little bit better when you have GOOD weapons. It sucks total ass at the beginning because of the bullshit enemies pull.

Hmm...someone else that doesn't buy into that Half Life fanatasicm, I like you. Although I fear for your life as a mob of angry valve fans with crowbars will soon be afoot.

For me, it would have to be RTS games in general, I don't like this micromanaging bullshit. It's annoying trying to fight off an enemy, make new troops, AND resource manage ALL at the same time. I can do it, I don't necessarily suck at it, but it's just out right annoying bullshit and not fun. Hell I never really see much STRATEGY in these games to being with, well...with the real popular RTS's that is. Most of it requires little thought and it just feels like a chore to play. There are some RTS games that are exceptions and DO require some actual thought to be put into them, but I'm too jaded by crap like warcraft and starcraft (I've played others but those are the BIG culplrits) to give that genre much consideration.
