Portal Fans, Dragon Age Fans, Valve Fans, Wow Fans... pretty much any fanbase is and will be annoying given a chance.

All games, with the exception of Pathologic and the Silent Hill series. Other than that, I find quite discouraging for me to play games after seeing the "fellow" fans.

I used to really enjoy the Call of Duty series, WWII ones and MW. However, I hate the fanbases so much that it has tainted my views of the game to the point where I can't bring myself to call "fan" on it.

I suppose WoW and EVE would be the big ones for me. Yes, I love MMOs. Yes, I love those MMOs. But cripe, the fanbases are clinically insane.

I'm going to have to say Portal and Sonic. The Portal fans ruined the jokes for me with overexposure and as for Sonic, they're either too argumentative about what games were good or end up being creepy perverts. I know not all fans are bad, but these guys stick out.

Fallout. I love the games, but everywhere I go the fans are so divisive and negative.

"Fallout 3 is a piece of shit, but New Vegas is great."
"Fallout 3 is epic, but New Vegas is boring."
"Fallout 3 *and* New Vegas are shit. Fallout is RUINED FOREVER!"

And then there's the mod community on sites like the Nexus. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of good content, but then there's the furry or anime crap that is totally inappropriate. I just ignore it, but a lot of people I know make a point to criticize it instead, and then get permabanned from the Nexus by overzealous admins. Now it seems like every other post in the Fallout megathread on Facepunch is whining about stupid mods and/or the Nexus, and all that negativity is really tiresome.

Hmm..there is a small group of fans whose comments kinda annoyed, or rather disturbed me a few days ago, so I'll just mention that.

It's about a (hopefully) small group of Final Fantasy 9 fans. I've decided to play through IX again and came to the point where the protagonist, Zidane, gropes a fellow party member in the butt and tactfully replies with ''ooh...soft''. Seeing as these people met a day or two ago, I was kinda weirded out by the blatant sexual harassment scene. But I though ''Meh, just Square Enix making a joke about harassing women.''

I eventually found out that tons of people absolutely love this scene, believe that it's the best scene in any final fantasy game, praising Zidane and saying they would have done the exact same and that the female protagonist totally deserved it due to her clothing.

What the fuck?
That does sound very peculiar and kind of annoying. I mean FF9 is my personal favorite FF game, and yes, that scene made me chuckle a bit, but it's hardly the best scene ever. It was a silly little joke in a game filled with silly little jokes. I liked it because it was just in character. Zidane is a bit of a flirt, he copped a feel, accidental or otherwise and that was that. It wasn't anything super incredible.

All of them? Fans are generally whiny bitches, and far too competitive over an intellectual property that isn't even theirs.

Final Fantasy and WoW.

Now, it isn't a unanimous hate to all of the fans, but as someone said above, FF fans more and more seem to hate on each addition to the series more than the last - and they do so audibly - and WoW....well, in WoW I've made some really good friends, but met also met some of the biggest douches on the planet and unfortunately, a large portion fall into the latter category.

A game's worst enemy is always its fans. Always. Bad design is a close second, but the fans rate top for me.And it doesn't seem to matter what game you're referring to, there will be a group of people who will take all of the enjoyment out of playing it due to their enthusiasm.

Which is why I tend to stay out of community forums for games I'm interested in.

TF2. They complain at the drop of hat....I'm not sure this phrase works here.
awwww i dropped my hat. i hate it so much when that happens. i have to pick it up... ya it sucks.

<TF2 fan, and i kinda think we have a reason to complain what with game breaking weapons and such. i don't mind free to play much cuz I've been in the situation where no money can be spared for gaming but valve could at least have given us a more awesome hat, like a big floating cash symbol above our heads.

Yeah, along with Final Fantasy VI, IX is my favorite Final Fantasy as well. 7 was pretty good as well, but I never really got swept away by it as others have. And yeah, the in-game joke was pretty harmless, but that's why I'm not complaining about that. It's the unexpected reactions from other fans that irritated me a bit.

Ohh, where to start, where to start? While there are a great many, I keep coming back to Halo. I actually like most of the games, for me they range from slightly above average to fairly excellent. But I can't tell you how many times it's felt like I'm the only sane person who's ever picked up that infernal green case.

Yea, people there are arrogant pricks.

Also, portal fans.

The Halo CE-era fanboys. They act like veteran gamers despite the game being 'relatively' recent and are condescending and snide towards more recent Halo fans and those who enjoy Reach and H3.

Aside from that the Gears community has a lot of angry, screamy meatheads.

Resident Evil fans. I get that the old school games were great but god damn is it a crime they tried something new?
If its not broken....

New IP is a place to try something new, IP that has a formula that works should stick to that formula. Just my opinion of course. Also 9/10 times these changes are made not to enhance the game but to try and bring the game to a wider audience, which usually means diluting the quality of the gameplay in my experience.
Hi. I'm a resident evil fan. I like both the old games and the new games. If you think 4 was a diluted, low quality game because of the massive changes, you have a very strong bias.

World of Warcraft, shoot me now.
Call of Duty. I really liked Modern Warfare 2 in multiplayer, I found it very enjoyable to play with a few friends. However the constant whine and immaturity made me want to break something.

So far I'm enjoying League of legend. Done 15 games so far and still no random leaving or insults.
But maybe I'm just lucky.
