Games you refuse to play because people won't stop suggesting them

I don't know if it's just me, but I find the more and more people suggest I play a game, the less I want to play it. The more and more hyped up a game gets, the less likely it is that I'll like it. After all, even if I love the game, there's no chance of it living up to the massive amount of hype it has accumulated. Even if I know ahead of time that the game is good, I just get so annoyed with people who won't stop talking about it that I just flat out refuse to play it. Has this ever happened to you? If there are any, which games do you refuse to play due to fans you won't shut up about them?

At the very top of the list for me is Chrono Trigger. This is a game that literally every dang person in the world has suggested I play, it's a game that fans constantly request a sequel for, and it's a game that has such a huge fanbase that it's impossible to avoid them. There hasn't been a single gaming related forum I've joined that isn't completely obsessed with it, and thus the billions of times it's been recommended to me just makes me want to scream every time someone suggests it. I'm sure it's a fabulous game, but until people stop nagging me to play it, I will never ever play it.

The same goes for Earthbound.

Sometimes it's because they're actually good and want to share their experiences. I know I've been suggesting games to a friend for years. He always refuses and when I finally manage to convince him, he swears he found a new favorite.

I usually play anything at least for a bit. People have been trying to get me to play Fear but I don't get scared almost at all and it just bores me.

Seriously though, I'm the same way. My friend kept telling me 'Psychonauts is the best game ever, play it, I'll lend it to you, play it!' and because of that, I refused to play it until I lent her FFVII, and wanted something in exchange just to make sure she wouldn't run off with my game. And now it's one of my favorite games of all time, and I hate myself for not playing it sooner.

It depends who suggests it. If a person on youtube goes 'OMG YOU SHUD GET BLACK OPS!' then that would put me off wheras if someone I know suggest, say, dragon age origins then I would check it out (yes that was based on a true story... If it wasn't obvious). Although I can see how fans of something can put you off the product.

I'm gonna say Call of Duty, Halo, anything with LEGO in the title,or any game based off of a movie.

Black Ops is at the top. And Bayonetta, which sucks because it looks SOOO fun! But all my buddies are like "Well, I would explain what makes it so great, but that would ruin it for you when you buy it." They think they are somehow better than me for playing it and I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT!!!!

Lots of people keep suggesting I get call of duty but I don't like shooters, but that's the whole reason for not getting it, because I don't like shooters. Not because there suggesting it.

Gears of war 2. My friends never shut up about it, and will always go on and beg me to buy it whenever they go on just to dick around when black ops gets boring (Which is most of the time)

That being said, Gears of war 3 looks epic and I will play the hell out of it.

I fully admit it's shallow, as I probably should have mentioned in the first post, but there are much more shallow reasons to not play a game than over hype. Besides, once I stop hearing about it so much, I often do give it a shot. Mega Man, Metroid, Final Fantasy VII, these were all games I didn't play for the longest time because of fans not shutting up, but I eventually tried them all, and yes, I really enjoy Mega Man now. I don't HATE the games that people recommend, I just don't want to play them until I'm ready.

Yeah, I'm like this about a lot of games. Seeing them all the time just makes me not want to play them, I mean, I'm already getting the full experience by you simply not shutting up about it. Or alternatively, the hype machine spoils the entire plot and so I don't want to play it at least until I've forgotten about it.

final fantasy as i said on the weird reason thread I don't like the name and swords but over the years I have gotten so much flax about how I should play the series and how "awesome" that cloud guy is I want to physically hurt people who suggest it to me

Halo: Reach. To be honest I never really liked Halo at all, but all my friends keep saying "ah its amazing" "Its better than 3" Oh and Gears of War 1/2/3 (when its out) Again, never seen the appeal

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. When these first came out i was like meh.. Then my mates started saying what great games they were and i was still like meh. I recently bought and completed both of them just last week. Best exclusives on the PS3 i felt like slapping myself for not getting them sooner. Now i have pre-ordered the 3rd one and i am eagerly waiting for it.
