I was going to name Far Cry 2 but I already had bad thoughts about it from the very start. Why? Well it looked rather boring, the "Free roam" is overhyped as hell too and doesn't really add anything to the gameplay. Crysis had a medium roam and did a lot better.

Oh ye I might have liked far cry 2 if it had mutants but since it didn't it's was the worst game of that year.

Ok, I'll just have to name this MMORPG named Dragonica. It is fun in the start and so till you get to around level 30 which is when the grind starts and 60 is max for the moment. The grind is just soo bad. Skills needs to be fixed too. So I'm standby with that game.

Assassin's Creed.

In a more positive light, I thought Fall Out 3 was going to suck with VATS and the over the top gore. But it was really good and didn't get old.

Oblivion, FFXII and Fallout 3.
Okay, I can't speak for Oblivion and Fallout 3, but honestly, am I the only one in the world who actually LIKED what I played of FFXII? I admit I haven't finished 7 or 12, but from the parts I played, 12 LOOKED better, PLAYED better, and had a better story. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go get into an asbestos suit in order to avoid the flames I've no doubt called upon me.
It's okay, I liked FFXII.

OT: I guess I'll be different and say Earthworm Jim 3D. The first two were platforming masterpieces but 3D SUCKED.

Oh and Devil May Cry 2, can't forget that.

Far Cry 2 is the biggest. I thought it was going to be so much more than it was. Next is Mirror's Edge. The demo was nice, but after I rented the game, I realized just how repetitive and choppy the gameplay was. I was literally stuck on a single section in a single level for over an hour because I failed to notice a crate that was ever so slightly more red than the crates around it that I needed to jump up on.

I usually don't buy games unless I'm sure they'll be great, so Far Cry 2 was a huge disappointment. Fable 2 would be after Mirror's Edge, but only because the story was too short and it had an absolutely horribly terrible ending.

I agree with you. Twelve had some issues (dull "main" character and several instances where an intelligent group of villains would have just KILLED them), but overall, I felt it was vastly superior to seven (which featured several characters with virtually no personalities). I'd consider FF7 to be the most overhyped game of all time. Still, I can't say it's my answer to this topic, simply because I played it before it reached Epic Overhype Levels.

Therefore, my answer would have to be Morrowwind. I'd heard it was great and expected it to be great, but that experience really showed that I vastly prefer storytelling to open-ended gameplay. I'm not going to call Morrowwind a bad game, but I hated it.

Sonic 2006. They promised a return to the gloryful roots, but we got a huge turd instead.

F.E.A.R 2 wasn't bad, but delivered nothing new compared to the original beyond the short mech-driving sequences. They cut back on the originals melee system, which could be very usefull when used properly. In the sequel in never once felt it gave me any advantage over just shooting. It was also lower on horror and overall felt less satisfying.

Shadow the Hedgehog. I don't think anyone mentioned it, but back when I was around the age of 10, this game really peaked my interest (considering I followed the Sonic series from the classic SEGA games). It was a real disappointment.

Also, after playing Resident Evil 4 recently, I just couldn't take RE5. It lacked the bad dialogue, humor, and craze of zombie killing. Instead, you fought black clones of enemies from RE4. Other than the racial changes, this game was pathetic. FYI, graphics were the only thing worth checking out in this game.

I liked FarCry2 so no, you're not alone.

For me, it was GTA IV, not that it wasn't awesome, but it didn't have all of the awesome minigames that made San Andreas a blast like flying a RC plane and shooting up vans! Still loved the game nonetheless.
