GTAIV definitely. I wanted to like it so bad. I even bought it, beat it, sold it back, and then bought it again once I got online. I'm a fan of the series but I felt that with IV the city was beautiful but there was hardly anything new or exciting to do. I much prefer Saints Row 2 becuase at least that game tries to be fun. Plus there's cruise control!

I may be going against pretty much the whole thread.. but i actually liked Halo 3, Too Human (actually played it through twice) and Mirrors Edge...

As for let downs... Killzone 2 was the biggest in most recent memory for me. Yeah the visuals were good, but if you strip all the shine off it was just another grey, gritty, futuristic FPS.

No one has said yet Destroy All Humans: Path Of The Furon
That game SUCKED. I loved the series (mind the d at the end of love) but this game was so dumb! I lost all of my data on the game because i ran up this one hill, and my guy spazzed out

I was going to name Far Cry 2 but I already had bad thoughts about it from the very start. Why? Well it looked rather boring, the "Free roam" is overhyped as hell too and doesn't really add anything to the gameplay. Crysis had a medium roam and did a lot better.

Oh ye I might have liked far cry 2 if it had mutants but since it didn't it's was the worst game of that year.
you know what i hated most about far cry 2 was th AI that if you shot them while hiding in a bush from a mile away they would find you instantly. THIS REALLY HAPPENED TO ME

Saints Row 2, and it was!
Why would that be.
Probably because it has everything I want from a game:
>A map that each has it's own distinct area but still blends together.
>Solid controls.
>A MASSIVE arsenal of weapons.
>Funny.
>Characters are likeable.
>Customise EVERYTHING about your guy...
I could go on for hours of why this is possibly the best game I have ever played.

If I had to list the most overhyped games of all time (sequels, naturally) they would be in such an order:

1. GTA IV
2. Halo 3
3. MGS IV

However I can't use these, since I had partially given up hope for a mircale after the previous installment to all three. I had hope, but don't we all.
For me personally it would have to be Assassins Creed; looked great, atmosphere great, but nothing to do and you can't even run without the game hating you. Devil May Cry 2, and yes I almost did cry- also applies to the second half of DMC4- it was simply no fun at all to play and the storyline felt like it was stolen out of a fortune cookie or budget christmas cracker. Really liked DMC3, sadly let down by the predecessor and successor alike.
Resident Evil 5 to an extent, it was fun and all, and I had some epic multiplayer moments ("Hey mate, watch what my shotgun does to the licker tank") but once you've cleared it a single time there's really no motivation to go through all that again.
Every Sonic game since Adventure 2 (Battle). You know why.
Final Fantasy X, not because I felt it a bad game, but after playing the previous three titles and finding them all terribly engrossing I just felt like ten was something to do in between the other games I was anticipating the release of. Traded it in, but would actually like to give it another go through some point in the near future.

And in light of that I would like to direct attention to one of the most hyped games of all time (second only to the dreadful GTAIV) : Final Fantasy VII!
The one game, I must say, that took my expectations and made them laughably inferior. Sometimes hype can be right on the money.

Oblivion, I just couldn't get into it.
Prototype. The videos made it look really fun, and I'll admit it was fun for a while because of the total over-the-top-ness of it, but I lost interest before I even finished the campaign, which I've read was really short.

Superman Returns. I thought it would be ,at least, decent.
Me too I bought it in the hopes it would be the Spiderman 2 of superman games, and flying really fast about the place was fun for a while, but the city was bland, due in part to the speed you move through it, and it was the most repetitive game ever. 80% of the game consists of flying between different parts of the city beating up the same 5 enemies with no plot.

Fallout 3. There was so much hype and I was looking forward to it more than any game ever. I didn't expect it to be the greatest thing ever concieved, but it was pretty much a flaming pile. Alright, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either, especially in direct comparison with The Elder Scrolls or Original Fallouts.

I almost thought you said Max Payne.
I was gonna flip out...
Lol
Biggest dissapointing game for me, was Age of Empires 3.
It held NONE of the fun aspects of Age of Empires 2.
And it was baisically dumbed down.
*Sigh*
THere was no more actuall stragtagy with it. You could just create hundreds of musketeers and mow everything down.
Yet with Age of Empires 2, you needed to be smart with your units. First send calvary against infantry, then send in the archers to take out the enemy calvary before they get to you, then send in your infantry, and clean up the remainders and destroy the buildings, followed by sending in your big seige weapons to take out castles and such. And if you were smart, you would create some Seige Rams, and garrasion troops in it for a surprise when the enemy destroyed it. I remember one time this dude thought I hacked, cause of that. He lost. Terribly.
