the Call of Duty series.
yeah yeah, it requires little to NO strategy, the hit detection is off, knife teleporting is cheap as shit, and the guys from IW seem like the most smug assholes this side of Bobby Kotik's ego, but I've had a lot of fun with those stupid games over the years. it's a guilty pleasure of mine. not to mention, I played nothing but TF2 for about a month, got Black Ops, and started owning the shit out of people by using actual strategy and cunning.
Aliens vs Predator (2010) is kinda bland and the multiplayer is pretty much dead (shame, it was actually really REALLY fun), but I give it props for being able to get my heart racing every time. gather round on children, and I'll spin you a magical yarn...
so I'm playing Infestation (everyone is a Marine, one guy goes Alien. every Marine that dies spawns as an Alien. it gets hectic as shit when you have 10+ players) on Pyramid (my least favorite map. can't see shit since it's so dark, the entire inside shifts like a giant maze. Aliens and Predators DOMINATE this map). I'm trying to get to one of the unofficial safe-zones (there's a few rooms around the border of the map with some decent lighting. all the Marines tend to hole up here, especially in Infestation) and I meet up with 2 other Marines. we jump down a hole and, due to it being pitch black, I get separated after walking into a wall for a good 20 seconds. I see their arrows, and decide to follow. I notice one of the doors leading to a safe room, but it's not open, so I decide to wait for the inside to shift so I can get inside and join my teammates. then it happens. a high-pitched blip on my motion tracker. there was something RIGHT next to me. it goes dead. then, a few seconds later, ANOTHER blip. and ANOTHER. so I start spraying my pulse rifle all over the place. I hear a menacing hiss behind me. I turn around. then I hear another hiss behind me. all this time, m motion tracker's going apeshit and I can't see ANYTHING. all of a sudden, I'm knocked flat on my ass and killed. to have a game be legitimately intense and frightening in MULTIPLAYER is quite a feat. can't wait for Colonial Marines.
