Portal. I don't hate it, but I tried to play the first one, and I was just so bored that I couldn't finish it. Glados' "humorous" dialogue sounded like something my spaz of a brother would say. I didn't laugh once.

Really people, the capra demon is what you get worked up about? It's the zergling rush of bosses, it kills you at the very beginning or you roll past it and that's pretty much it

I am kind of tired about how every acts like Dark Souls was the most difficult game ever created. It had its moments, but after a few hours of playing the game and getting used to its style, it rarely was ever that particularly challenging. It was really just a game that involved some trial and error, which I realize is rare nowadays, but that doesn't make it the crazy difficult game that people make it out to be.
This. Couldn't have said it much better myself.

Seriously? Your comparison for good story writing is Chris Avellone? Fucking seriously? Obsidian can't write an actually interesting story to save its ass.

If we're gonna talk engaging stories lets talk Irrational games, or Telltale, or anyone else really.

OT: Fucking Dark Souls and related games.

Yes, we get it, your super hardcore for beating it about 12 seconds faster than everyone else, get over it.

Most shooters these days, really. Call of Duty, Battlefield, and especially Halo. This probably lends to my bias against them, though admittedly I've played them a minimal amount.

I'm not a big fan of Avellone/Obsidian either, however I think it's hard to argue that Planescape Torment was anything less than pretty damn good in the writing department.

KOTOR2 at the very least had some interesting ideas and a couple of cool characters.

I've heard Mask of the Betrayer is good too.

On the other hand, one could argue that Obsidian has essentially been coasting along on the mommentum of past glories for quite a few years now. It's been a long time since they produced anything worthy of note.

And now I'm going to flee before I get involved the forum hatchet fight that this will likely turn into.

The Walking Dead - It was good, but it wasn't that great. After Episode 4, the ending was pretty obvious and wasn't that sad. The choices could have mattered a bit more than just "developing who Lee is", but I know how hard that would be to program.

It always turns into a one sided thing is my problem

Obsidian is allowed to remember the games it made a decade ago but Bioware is only allowed to remember Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2, not the greats like Jade Empire or Baldurs Gate.

Going by your Avatar its very hard to NOT see the obvious bias and fanboyism involved, sorry but thats pretty much fact. Since you mentioned Baldur's Gate i figured i'd point out that Black Isle also had a bit of a hand in making those games, as they are credited for working on it, Bioware didnt do that themselves, and in case you forgot, Obsidian is effectively formerly Black Isle.

So those two Points outta the way, Bioware actually has Problems in the writing department, especially Morality, where Obsidian is much better. So pointing at either side and claiming they are the Saviour or the proverbial doom of RPGs is rather silly. Bioware sucks at everything that is NOT character writing, and even those are very..well formulaic. Look at Baldurs Gate, specifically the second one, now look at dragon age origins. Spiritual Sequel? Hardly, they basicly shoplifted parts of their old success and put it into the new one. The most obvious being the Keep you get in Awakening, if you remember the De Arnise Keep from BG2, the similarities are painfully obvious.

But on the other hand, Obsidian sucks at writing unless it is morality and overall plot. I mean where Bioware do their Black/White thing, Obsidian goes with alot of shades of grey. Even Jade Empire has that problem in Bioware's case, the open palm/closed fist eventually turn into basic good and evil. So both have their weak spots obviously, and their strong points, so its rather silly that it tends to devolve into a fanboy-rage between two camps over which developer is better since both have their faults, dont even get me started on bethesda here.

Which brings me to the actual topic: The Fanboy-Squee/Rage Threads about which Developer is better. That could stop, seen quite alot of Topics going "Who is better?" and its a bit tiresome actually.

COD, in any iteration. I'm sick of games being compared to it and I'm sick of hearing about their yearly instalments. I'm stick of hearing about new map packs and everything else to do with the game.
That's the only series I'm sick of hearing about. It just had to come yearly with most of the same problems so I just have to hear that shit over and over, as well as it being advertised fucking everywhere! And the worst part is hearing my brother playing it all the time and complaining how broken it is. It's a fucking disease.

Oh WOW.

Althougt I love the COD series, this post is just hilarious.

I mean, this one part: "...And the worst part is hearing my brother playing it all the time and complaining how broken it is."

LOL, if he complains so much about how broken it is then why he still plays it? Again, just LOL

*you're

I'm sick of hearing about Dark Souls. I really don't give a flying feather about how you only play games that are incredibly difficult.

Also, people saying they're tired of hearing about Spec Ops, well, just play it. Seriously. You owe it to yourself as a gamer. People who say it's average are the same people who think that Call of Duty is excellent. Make of that what you will.

Valve ANYTHING, pretty much. And Minecraft. If I never see another "Hey, look! You can BUILD stuff in Minecraft!" article again, I could die a happy man.

The combat was O.K, but the cover system was annoying and the weapons sounded weak. Oh, and the story, It was so annoying when ever the game kept having it's moment of saying "YOU'RE A MONSTER! LOOK AT YOU! YOU'RE A FUCKING MONSTER!"
Well, it's sort of aimed more at Captain Walker, as technically, you are not supposed to enjoy the things you do playing as him.
ShadowRatchet92 said:
when ever I had to make a choice of some sorts that had someone dying, and then went back to make me kill more people.
You do realize you didn't have to kill those particular civilians.
In this case I'm assuming you are referring to the civilians who lynched Lugo.

ShadowRatchet92 said:
I know people are gonna say "well that's the point,"
That is the point, it's a criticism/deconstruction of games you enjoy.

ShadowRatchet92 said:
doesn't excuse it for poor execution.
Poor execution? The game is not supposed to be "fun". The things the character does are atrocious, and if the player is enjoying himself, that means that the player is a psychopath.

ShadowRatchet92 said:
Spec Ops: The Line is the most pretentious game ever made and it's fans are equal pretentious
I'm sorry, I have to say the most pretentious game ever is Braid, with Dear Ester a runner up.

You know, reading your other posts, you seem to have a habit of deliberately provoking people (like me) into replying to you.

League of Legends. It's a really boring game. It's like any other RTS game, but you don't get the enjoyment of commanding a massive army or nation. Just one guy...

Unless you live with an overzealous roommate, or all your friends talk about games with you and only you... how exactly do you get sick of hearing about games? If there's too many threads or newsposts about them, you understand how ignoring things works, right? No-one is going into your house and poking you with a pointy stick saying HEY PLAY WALKING DEAD. HEY. HEY. WHY AREN'T YOU PLAYING IT. No-one.

(My apologies if someone actually is. That sounds really annoying.)
