Oh gawd, Glover...I completely forgot about that until you mentioned it. I remember that game, probably one of the only platformers I ever liked.

It's fine to enjoy shitty games and to dislike good games.

Only when you cannot look at the hobby objectively and confuse enjoy with good and dislike with shit, is when you lose cred.

I STILL don't see why everyone thinks Uncharted 2 is the singe greatest achievement of the year. I just can't get into it. With the exception of it's amazing graphics, Uncharted 2 is just another generic shooter with annoying climbing mechanics.

THERE..! I said it!

Kirby is Badass.

Also, to be worth your salt as a gamer, you have to have died at least once while playing NetHack.
Its like being at this school and having to see at least one episode of The L Word, even if you don't much care for it.
...NetHack?

I liked the characters of Atlas and Andrew Ryan a lot from Bioshock. I thought there was no story. I thought the
"you're a slave"
thing had no emotional impact at all. I thought the gameplay was terrible.

So, it was tolerable, but only for the characters. The rest of it was horrendous. I can only imagine how terrible Bioshock 2 is without the first game's only redeeming qualities.

I like Halo. That's probably a blasphemy to a lot of people.
Tisk, tisk.
There's no good reason not to give it a go-
its free, splitsecond download, and if you don't like dying a lot, put it on adventure mode.
Its an important part of gaming history as one of the most notable of all roguelikes.

Same as you with the half life thing. I've yet to have someone give me an actual reason that it's good other than the gimmicky now generic gravity gun which was pretty much useless in combat, though I have strait up asked and in response was just accused of being a troll and got posts similar to the one you did.

Other games I disliked that seemed to be blasphemies include Earthbound, KOTOR, WoW, Bioshock (though outside of this forum most people consider that to be "meh" anyways.) And I didn't dislike mario 64 but it's generally reguarded as the "best" and I still prefer Mario in 2D much more.

Also, a bit off topic, but I think the gaming community would generally object to this anyways, but I think Katanas are fucking lame. They're just so plain. Every katana looks pretty much exactly the same, and the original design is just plain boring. There's no way to make a katana look badass. A war axe is badass. A scythe is badass. A claymore is badass. A flail is badass. Roman swords where badass. Not only did they look much cooler, but if someone gets killed with one of those, that's fucking brutal. A katana lacks that savage awesomeness that a real man's weapon has. It's light, one sided, and relies on quick single direction motions, making it a lame, one dimensional weapon even in fiction. Sure, that's probably more practical, but you know what else is practical? A gun. And we have those now, so any practicality associated with a blade is thrown out the window.

I played Half-Life when it came out and it wasn't that great. Nor was Half-Life 2.

The series didn't get great until Half-Life 2: Episode 2. But they wouldn't have been able to refine everything without those first few games so I would say there are elements of interest in all of them, they just didn't get the balance right until Episode 2.

For, finally, I have found someone else in this world that thinks Half Life is a completely boring, uninteresting, unoriginal series of garbage and yawns.

Now, as to my gaming sin? ...besides the fact I like Half Life? Hmm...

I would have to say...the fact I think that exploiting game mechanics is a cheap and dirty trick to win in Player-versus-Player combat.
Yes, I totally agree!

Other gaming sins of mine...

Never having played BioShock, either Mass Effect, any of the Fallout games, or World of Warcraft;

Also never having played Oblivion or gone past the first hour of Chrono Trigger, despite claiming to be an RPG fan;

My awful habit of starting games and not finishing them in general; of all the games I currently own, I think I have only finished 1/3 of them;

Avoiding online play in most games like the plague, though I may get into online fighting games at some point, once I feel I have mastered them enough to stand more than 5 seconds in the ring with an experienced player;

Also giving the Nintendo Wii a chance at life

I read only the topic's poster's post, Half-Life 1 AND 2 suck'd (no not sucked, suck'd), both games were full of bugs, linear, BORING, couldn't get through Chapter 3 (of Half-Life 2), I wanted to shoot myself of boredom. You get a crowbar, ONE pistol, and ONE machine gun,oh, and ONE variation of enemy, if that's your definition of fun...

I don't believe in these "gaming sins". Being a fairly new gamer, there are games I never had a chance to try. There are also games that I want to play some day, I just never got around to doing it yet.

Besides, not everyone likes the same games, so I don't think that people should say something like "If you haven't played this game you're not a real gamer."

Oh, and just so you know, I have the same opinion about spoilers that "you should already know".

-Mario is shit.

-Zelda is shit.

-The Modern Warfare multiplayer was exceptionally average.

-I own a 360 (PC gamer 90% of the time though) and I refuse to pay for XBL - I can't believe people didn't refuse to pay a charge so that they can then play the other half of their games, which they've paid for.

-I quite liked Enter the Matrix.

-Bioshock has some of the worst pacing in a game I've ever seen. I finished it for the first time yesterday, and it was unbearable. They had a massive build up to the twist; you go to Ryan's office, tense music's playing, etc. etc. Then the door's locked, so you spend an hour and a half looking for parts (YET AGAIN) and getting your head smashed in over and over and over again. I'm playing the second one now and its much better.

-I couldn't get into Fallout 3, even though I really wanted to. I love Oblivion though, which has led me to surmise that most people really like one and can't get into the other at all.

-Episode 2 is better than HL2

I don't even know if half of those are sins, I just wanted to moan. xD

BLASPHEMY!!! HALF LIFE IS THE GREATEST SERIES EVER AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN'T CONSIDER YOURSELF A GAMER!!!11!! ITS A SIN NOT TO LIKE IT!!!
Yes, that was an actual copy/paste. He used all caps.
That, or he just held down the shift key.
I'm not a fan ether. I liked the storytelling, but it didn't do enough to hide the fact that the story it self was just "Oh noz, Gordon halp, aliens are attacking us, pump 'em ful of lead!"

My personal-to-me gaming blasphemy is how much I enjoyed Final Fantasy X-2. Almost (but not quite) more than X. I liked the system, I liked the plot, I liked the characters. As long as I could play through the pop concert scenes with the sound off, I was golden.

Also, it is either blasphemy or not, depending on who you ask, that really disliked FFVIII, mostly because there wasn't a single character I could empathise with, not even in the characterless-player-cipher way that I could just about get on with Vaan.

Oh, and I bought Portal because I was starting to feel bad for knowing all the words to Still Alive without having played the game, which I think is probably some kind of gaming sin...
