So I have a gaming confession to make; I've never played League of Legends. I know, somehow I've missed playing the next best thing since sex and sliced bread.
I've thought about playing and have watched videos and even watched other people play, but I've never committed myself. Even looked up the different champions to see if there was one I really liked. Its for two main reasons;
1: Its Free-to-play. I HATE FTP, and I hate what it makes developers do to their playerbase (its the same reason I don't play Planetside 2 since the Beta or Blacklight anymore; the amount of time OR money required is just ridiculous. $15 to be able to use the AA tank or dozens of hours of gameplay time? No thanks). So my choice is to hope I like whatever free champions they have that day, or that if I buy a champion that its A: One I wind up liking and B: Doesn't suck ass? Yeah, right (especially considering my track record of picking characters who don't suck in games). It's basically like if CAPCOM only let you use Ryu and Cammy with Street Fighter and made you purchase or rent all of the other characters, balance and fun be damned.
2: The community. Good lord, even just watching LoL be played is painful - it makes WoW and CoD look tame; and I frequently play a Healer in WoW, meaning I'm on the receiving end of some pretty nasty stuff if the slightest thing goes awry. Light save your soul if you pick a character people don't think is "meant" for that lane, or they just don't think is good. Or forbid even stumble one time.
I honestly might be more willing to try it if it came with a "Spend $60-$80 one time and get everything or only spend what you think you might want" so that way I could just drop the price of a new game ONE time and be able to use the game in its entirety rather than having to piecemeal it and possibly wind up spending $100+ on the game just to find out what I like in the game.
At least then I wouldn't feel like I'm being mugged by both the game and the community.
