well this one here isn't really a legend, but everyone i tell it to tells me i'm making it up:

paintbrushes weigh nothing in Oblivion. they float where you drop them. if you have enough, you can make a stairway that stays there permanently.

The version I heard was, if you tap A at the exact moment the pokeball appears then it becomes a master ball.

Actually the version spread around my town was that if you started repeatedly pressing A as soon as the Pokeball shut, it caught the Pokemon regardless of health of level.

...The killer from GTA SA

There was this rumor that a killer would hunt CJ anytime he was in the country area, and that he would sneak kill CJ with a sniper rife.

....But there was another rumor that actually proved true: If you by yourself during the early moring hours in rural areas or in Los santo...Beat up cars would appear out of nowhere with no drivers around.

Cree~py.

The Cow Level in Diablo and 800,000,000+ convoluted ways to supposedly get Arieth back in FFVI.
The cow level is not a myth. It's real, I've been there.
There's a cow level in Diablo II, not in the original. In fact the only reason the Devs included the Cow Level in Diablo II was as a nod to the myth of the Cow Level in the original Diablo.

That there was a way to get the triforce in Ocarina of Time. People kept going on and on and on trying to find the thing. People wouldn't seem to believe it wasn't obtainable.

Anyone hear about the haunted Sprunk factory in GTA IV? That's probably my favorite gaming legend, because I went there to investigate and there WAS a mysterious glitch: If you fired a gun there, a strip club bouncer spawns in the basement. I found that out the hard way... Nearly shit myself when he shot me.

I remember so many of these, I remember the scarab gun legend in halo 2, turned out it was true as far as I can remember even though I never got the damned thing myself after ages of trying.

There was one that you could kill your rival in Pokemon Gold/Silver, and he'd jump off a building. Pretty sure that was fake though.

Also if you got all the Pokemon, Celebi would emerge from the Azalea Forest shrine and attack you. Never found out if that really happened though. 198 Pokemon and counting!

In Super Mario Brothers 2 if you managed to sprint perfectly at the end of a level you could jump over the flagpole.

You could make Ken/Ryu do the random red fireball if you knew the right technique.

There really was a blood code on the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, but only a few elite players keep it to themselves.

Halo doesn't blow monkey scrote. (Yes, I had to.)

They say the blood code is a myth http://www.videogamer.com/features/article/08-04-2010-1053-4.html

Hmm, I remember the Bigfoot myth being extremely well-known back then. Everyone that bought the game was looking for him.

Plain and simple, what gaming myths did you hear about growing up and where?

For example, the classic myth that holding B+Down would increase the chance of catching a Pokemon on Red or Blue, and that Mew is under a car at the beginning of the game.

Everyone heard some variation of this rumor on the playgrounds, EVERYONE did. I still to this day wonder who the hell started it.
The version I heard was you have to surf off from the jetty the big boat was on which can't be done if you do the normal progression of the game. Then there's an island with mew on it or something.

Oh and I heard it was you had to tap B...

Just shows even more what a myth it is.

Woops, I misread your post. I never actually played Diablo 1 and I keep forgetting it exists. The second game took up so much of my time it's unreal.

Triforce being an obtainable item in Ocarina of Time.

makes me wonder if Nintendo will do something about it in their 3DS remake.
Of course, they all technically obtained the Triforce by the end of the game. It just didn't come with a jingle.

Unfreezing Zora Lake in Ocarina of Time. It's strange that it was never restored like everything else.
