The original question was about a specific item or plot sequence that was a letdown, but since a lot of people turned this into games that let them down, I will join in the fun. I do not think I have ever been nearly as underwhelmed with a game as I am with Left 4 Dead. What a shame really, there is a lot of potential. It makes me curious and utterly apprehensive about the sequel.

I would say Mirrors Edge was biggest let down for me for its shortness, easyness(I wonder if thats even a word :p ) and for making me run in too many corridors etc...

But for me the biggest letdown was Fallout: Brotherhood of steel on PS2. That game was like a hit with tire iron to the face for a Fallout fan. No game I have play'd since has been so dreadfully boring and had this feeling like it's being forced at gun point to drag forward. Biggest letdown ever (for me atleast).

I have never played a God of War game before 3 so staple or not its still a let down. And you may have missed the part where I said its mainly the fact that the choices he makes are so stupid beyond reason. Dont say its because his family is dead he is irrational either because no one can constantly be that angry without giving themselves a stroke from the stress or collapsing in a heap.

OT: The game was a let down for me. You asked the reasons and I gave them.
It doesn't matter if you never played the first two, Complaining about features that have been in every game in the franchise is just stupid. How does a sex minigame refrain you from ripping dudes apart? It doesn't.

There is a lot more to Kratos being pissed off because "His family is dead". He has constantly been fucked over by the gods, been killed several times and always manages to have his vengeance taken from him at the very last minute. All that combined to the fact that the gods tricked him into killing his family and you can see his need to murder each of them in brutal ways.
Complaining about features that I dislike is stupid simply for the fact theyve been used before? Oh thats right because everything that is popular is good that is essentially your arguement

I can see through him killing the gods that makes sense.
Khronos and gaia[/spolier] as well as a few others he kills along the way I dont as he has nothing to gain from killing them perhaps even loses out by killing them unneccesarily

About the weapons in cod4.. None of them are really better than the others. They were not put in a specific order of crap to leet... It all comes down to personal preference really. I myself end up topping charts with long range head shots with the Skorpion, and the ak47 makes a better silenced weapon than the smg's due to its high damage rating... Then again those are my personal preferences and I get by very well on those.

As for the rest of the topic. Yeah, I'm not too fond of the legendary swords in Shining Force 1 and 2... Not only do they kinda suck, but they force you to play with those once you get them because it's pretty much needed to kill the big boss dude. =\

Resident Evil 5.. The feeling of. "Should I keep this for later." never ceased to exist.. I pretty much used my original pistol through out the entire game except for bosses and the such. My buddy actually liked that because I was able to keep up with him while carrying extra ammo FOR him LOL.

God of War II was bad enough for me. It got to a stage where I could win just using the golden fleece. In comparison to Royal Guard in Devil May Cry games, the guard timing is a joke. You can be a second off and still get it to activate. Also, it the game felt like a rehash of the first game, which I hated enough as it was.

Final Fantasy VII. Hated it. Completely. It was the most over-hyped and boring piece of **** I've ever played.

Oblivion - Not nearly as fun and time consuming as I hoped.
Not fun I understand, but not time consuming? I spent over 200 plus hours in the game, and I still haven't done everything. I'm just curious, why do you feel its not time consuming?

OT: Bioshock, I felt the game was bland. Sure, the setting was neat, but often times it felt so detached. The combat was slow and unintuitive, I just feel like it could have been a lot better.

Also, Dragon Age, I was really excited because I loved Mass Effect. But when I actually got to play the story, it wasn't really like Mass Effect. Dragon Age had a decent combat system, but they wanted you to know it. I mean, hell, it seemed like the story was hashed together after the game, or was it really just that boring? Either way, Mass Effect tells its story in a much better manner.

You sure you've played God Of War 3? It's Gaia's fault that Kratos ended up in Hades and she even says he was nothing more than a pawn. Something which has had enough of being.
Yes im sure Ive played it. Wish I hadnt but thats not the point.

Gaia was doing everything she could to get to zeus to kill him. Sound familar Kratos? So basically he killed her for doing what he was doing. Hypocrite much?

And as for being called a pawn, "oh no the big giant lady insulted me. Oh wait thats right im not a 12 year old I know how to deal with insults"

I really did look forward to Timeshift, I really did.

It looked great! It was immersive, had a great mechanic, the graphics were slick and shiny and the gameplay videos looked brilliant.

And then..... it was a bland load of shit.

Thus, hopes dashed. Again.
That was my experience with Bad Company 2. I guess that will teach me to get my hopes up--god, this must be how Yahtzee feels all the time. Poor bastard.
Not really, I think Yahtzee knows to go into things expecting shit, and then therefore be pleasantly surprised when/if it turns out NOT to be shit. That's what I do these days, I call it being a pragmatist.

OT: Pandora's Box in God of War, the Vault in Borderlands, honestly the "Open the magic box" plot item in games is ALMOST always a letdown. Frankly, I'd rather not know what's in there, because I doubt anyone's going to come up with something that I feel is worth it.

Did anyone else here see Pulp Fiction? Can you tell me the movie would have been BETTER if we had found out what was in the case Jules was carrying for Marcellus? I think it's better not to know, personally, at least for the story's sake.

Advent Rising in general was a letdown, I feel like there was ALOT of potential there if it could have just been a bit more polished.

I was deeply disappointed in Mercenaries 2. After the first game, which still goes down today as my favorite Sandbox game ever, I was greeted by a dated, ugly twin slightly resembling Just Cause now? Very Disappointing.

However, the game which takes the fucking crown of being disappointed by is Alone in The Dark! I was told the PS3 version fixed up most the bad parts like the camera and glitches. Did it fucking really? It can't fix frustrating enemies, terrible voice acting, and the inventory system is out to get you. Why couldn't I put Petrol on ALL of my ammo rather than just the ones in my gun? At least Mister Gooey Floor was fixed, while the Flashlight was still terribly in effective, Fire made everything better... as usual.

Calumon: I didn't like Digimon World 4. Why did Guilmon Need a sword? He breathes fire, like Pew Pew, Fwoosh, BOOM!

Not time consuming because I didn't find it fun, and therefore didn't spend all that much time with it.

For me it was infamous, don't get me wrong it is a great game but I set my expectations too high. For example you can climb anything, now I don't dispute this fact but I do think to climb all you do is button mash.

I gotta Say Brutal Legend. It was extremely fun after I beat it, now I never have touched it in a year.

ANother has to be FallOut 3. I got the game of the Year edition (it came with all downloadable packs) and after the first two hours I was bored. I wondered what all The Hype was about..

Than the first Uncharted wasn't th best game I've played. Now, the second one did blow me away and lived up to my expectations.

Than their was Moder Warfare 2...really was bad to me. Played it at a friends house and I never touched it again.

Left 4 Dead two was my big let down. The new weapons sucked, they fucked up the shotgun ammo distribution and gave you too much ammo for the autos, which sucked anyway. You either did damage with a shotgun, ran out of ammo mid horde and died, or got the machine gun, never ran out of ammo and shared the kills with the rest of your team.

Melee was also disappointing, because the shit was way too God mode. Ish. If you rushed a tank with a katana, you killed it. In the first one, if your rushed a tank, that means its the first time you've ever seen one, or have extremely horrible vision and mistook it for a very buff boomer.

All the way around, Left 4 Dead 2 let me down because the game play that made the first one so great was completely warped and destroyed. The only fun, new gun was the rocket launcher and they made the double pistols, the most reliable secondary, suck major donkey wank.

I use images to convey words, that makes me funny.
As a game it was decent, but as a MGS game, it was awful.

There was a few people who mentioned Fable 2, and I agree completely. That was not even close to what it was hyped up to be.

Probably my most recent one was L4D2. I loved the original and was so psyched for the sequel, but for whatever reason I could never really get into the sequel. I think it was mostly due to the non-stop swarms caused by the stupid "shut off the loud noise" sequences that would drain your health and slow you down. I suppose I should give it a 2nd chance once the big new DLC comes out, but I've hardly played it even 10% of how much I played the first one...
