Nnrg! This. This right here. I have never ever ever been pleasantly surprised to discover that I must do an escort mission.

Most escort missions and defend missions which end in a completely unpredictable huge attack. For example a huge force attacking from a direction where no enemy attacked during the whole n-minute defence. Or they attack the thing you're defending in a way that's completely undefendable unless you start preparing for it in the very beginning.

Also instakill environments, especially the ones that make no sense at all. My latest one is L4D2, the finale in the Parish campaign. I was already at the helipad, but there was a tank between me and evac. I turned around just to face a small drop from the helipad into the lake and a land ramp a bit further ahead. Of course I could jump into the water to escape the tank and jump back on the platform from that ramp, right? Wrong, this water KILLS you on touch.

I'm gonna have to agree with quick time events. And them bosses where you need to press a sequence of buttons to finish. I'm getting old and slow i cant keep up sometimes!

I'd like to see not complete disappearance, but decrease in "magically regenerating health" systems. Or at least some attempts at justification.
Totally. What happened to the good old days of health bars? Something like Resistance's partially regenerating one I liked. Health kits are a forgotten gem, perhaps due to people complaining games were too hard and they kept dieing?

Invisible walls, some doors that don't open - ie. things that kill the immersion

Regenerating health is a bit silly, I suppose Halo 1 popularized it, but that was kinda handwaved with Master Chief's shield, and his actual health needing health packs to restore.
I've seen other systems where health only regens to a certain amount, never to full. In my view it's more of a different gameplay thing, since health regen and insta-heal health packs are both pretty silly anyway. It's still possible to make a challenging game though.

Some other things:
-Multiplayer achievements, especially ones which provide unlocks. Hooray for boosters.
-"Throwaway" single player
-I accept the idea of DLC that is given as an addition, perhaps due to development/time constraints, but selling DLC on Day One is just ridiculous. Another example is paying to unlock "hidden" content. For example, Modern Warfare 2 has a game mode buried on the disc, called "Global Thermonuclear War", which was found by hackers. If that goes to paid DLC, I will punch a kitten.
-Similar to the above, in-game items exclusive to the Collector's Edition. Upcoming offenders include Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Yay first post.

Quick time events.
Pointless Gimmicks because of the hardware. (looking at you DS / Wii ¬_¬)

As long as they help the gameplay/combat (The World Ends With You - it's pretty awesome, slashing or drawing circles to destroy enemies), why not.

Except for QTE, they need to die. I can no longer have a nice action hack'n'slash because half of the time I'm not doing anything, PRINCE OF EVENTS, I MEAN PERSIA.

Paid DLC.

Most defiantly the ones released on the same day as the actual game...
Defiantly... deviant? Deviantly? I feel weird now.

Trophies that are just stupid, if it enhances the game experience then fine but not one involving you getting through one area unseen or shooting ten guys with one bullet.
Those do get kind of annoying. I mean, 10 guys with one bullet? I can understand 3 guys with one grenade, but for the bullet thing they'd need to be standing in a row.

Regenerating health really needs to stop. I like the segmented health like in Resistance Fall of Man and Far Cry 2.

You could be shot to shit, but you will still have 1 full bar which is usually enough to get you to another health pack.

And how is it not realistic to find a health pack on a battlefield? What about medics? Do they not carry First Aid kits? Its far more realistic to find a health kit than to hide behind a wall sucking your thumb when you go from nearly dead from a shot from a Barret sniper rifle to the chest, and next 2 seconds your fully healed.

How people find that more realistic is just unbelievable.

I can understand it in multiplayer, becvause your not as immersed when you have an 8 year old telling you he had nice hot sex with your mom last night, but during the campaign, when I'm supposed to be immersed. Yeah, health bars are good.

I'm especially pissed that their putting a regenerating health system in Mass Effect 2, along with taking out the infinite ammo weapons. Doesn't seem futuristic going from weapons that can fire without being reloaded ever to having to be reloaded...

Oh, and developers should really start letting you see your feet in FPS games.
Not exactly on topic, but I don't care how immersive your game is. When I look down and see that I'm just a floating camera with arm, well nothing breaks immersion more than that.

DLC, why can't you just put it in the game itself!?

Games that are obviously not completely bug-tested to get them out 'on time', I'm looking at you Tomb Raider

Quick-time events that seem to be there for the sake of it. Or at all. I cannot think of one time I have ever not be jarred out of the game experience by having to press x to not die.

Oh and this. I might swear and curse about having not rationed a health pack but at least it makes the game more exciting and real.

Achievements. Unless they give you something really cool that's kinda game changing, they're a hassle to get and don't really give anything.

- Crappy single player, awesome online multiplayer. Not all of us have a connection, you dipshits.

- On the topic of online multiplayer, fucking online achievements/trophies. They make getting 1000/1000 impossible if you don't have a connection, and if you do it's all achievements whores going for the achievement and that's it.

- DLC released not long after the game. You could have included it on the fucking disk, don't make me fucking pay for something I could already fucking have.

- Quick Time Events - kinda pointless and annoying.

- Pointless gimmicks just because of the hardware. Most of the stuff in DS and Wii games, basically.

- Time limits. When you actually have a time limit, not like Halo 2's first level where it's all "Quickly, before the bomb explodes!" but you can spend forever. And time limits in general I don't mind, as long as they're doable by a casual gamer. I fucking hate almost impossible ones. Makes me want to RAGE!

If anyone could, It'd be macgyver?

I don't really think anything should stop existing, there is always someone who likes a certain aspect of games that we will not agree with.

Having said that, QTE, regenerative health not consistent with story/world, DRM online activation/hardware-change-lockout and national censorship editions.
