The Feather Collecting in AC2. You spend hours collecting 100 feathers and what do you get, a cape that makes you automatically Notorious and one line of dialoge from your mother. I would rather spend that time collecting 100 hidden packages in Vice City and getting cool weapons.

Played the 2008 Alone in the Dark for 30 minutes before taking it back to the store. What a load of utter shite it was.
I know that entire game from head to toe...and I've never played it.

I have a friend who works at EB Games. One day I was in his store, I randomly asked if they had anything for free, and he gave me the Prima game guide for Alone In The Dark: Central Park.

The giant dagger or whatever it was called in ocarina of Time. You couldn't obtain until after you grow up, which is when you get a much, much better sword anyway.
What a massively pointless side quest that was.
Getting that sword was my favorite part of the game.

OK, I'm not saying that Halo Reach had a good story(it didn't) but they did explain some of this stuff. He had to detonate it manually because the timer device on the bomb was convinently damaged during the fight. And yes, the fleet of ships showing up does render his sacrifice in vain. They(Bungie) kind of did that on purpose. It's supposed to make his death sadder. Of course, the OTHER reason he died in vain is the one you mentioned, that a marine could have died for him. I don't think Bungie caught that one.

OT: The museum mission in the beginning of Uncharted 2. Seriously, guys, if you're going to throw in an arbitrary stealth mission, at LEAST give us an AI that can handle it. Or, you know, don't give us an arbitrary stealth mission.

And a quick side note: Anyone else notice when Drake tosses an innocent security guard off a fucking cliff without even a blink of remorse? I thought that was the whole point of the tranq guns! What did that one guard do to deserve life less then his co-workers? Come on, Naughty Dog, it's called consistency of character, and it's VERY IMPORTANT.

Commandoes 2. Bought it during that Steam sale because it seemed like an ok game, and should be worth at least the 3$ I spent on it. I've never been more wrong in my entire life.

I never put any effort into it, but I'd have been pissed if I worked towards that "Customer Appreciation" in Zelda: Windwaker.
This, except I actually did it...
You poor soul.
Did you destroy your Game Cube?

The Fade level of Dragon Age: Origins during the Mage quest in the Main story. Seriously, that quest is so... monotonous and boring and I just want to get it over with so quickly.

What about grinding to defeat the dark aeons in FFX?

That was a waste of time :( Especially considering all of it does nothing particularly exciting or meaning ful when the actual boss of the game was possibly one of the most pathetic bosses in gaming history.
I think it's just one of those challenging things to be done for the sake of it, all FFs have them, and they're there just to be able to say "I did it". I mean like you say, it's not like doing them could massively help you beat the final boss, as the final boss of FFX is just a glorified cutscene, which is what I like to think of it as, symbolic more than an intended challenge. The only reason to beat the dark aeons in FFX is to be able to beat the next one and finally Pennance. WHO CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF.

Yeah, it's mentioned off hand by the Spartan, but he is very difficult to understand, and it just raises more questions (this was your big push back against the covenant and you had no back up plan for the bomb, the most important part of the operation). It's supposed to make his death sadder, but if you didn't care about him (or couldn't even tell him apart from the others) due to his poor development, it just comes off as contrived and a waste of time.

Portal. Wow i never thought a game could bore me that fast and just radiate valve pretentiousness like portal did. It is the only single game i feel i wasted my time and money and i'll never get it back. I dont want to return it because of how i'll get ripped but i cant STAND to look at it. So i throw it in the back of my closet.

You're either talking about the Giant's Knife or the Razor Sword. Either can be upgraded to the better(unbreakable) Biggoron's Sword or Gilded Sword. With more side-questing anyway.

I'd have to say Excalibur II in FFIX, even though I didn't get it. Steiner already easily hits the 9999 damage mark without it.

Speaking of FFIX, how about Tetra Master? Except for ONE TIME when it is part of the plot, playing that game and getting the various cards is pretty pointless.

Emerald and Ruby Weapon in FF7? I decided to try and beat them, realised I knew exactly what to do but needed two more stars on my Knights of the Round materia and decided I really didn't need to make the time investment.

For instance, in the Jam story, where we know there is no jam in the fridge, let's say the person going for the jam is Jim. He's been estranged from his family for several years because he disagrees with their church going lifestyle. His girlfriend recently left him for another man, he's been laid off from his job, and both his best friend and dog were run over by a steam roller. Despite all this hardship, he's still trying to maintain composure. He thinks, "My life has gone hill, but if I can keep it together. Having a nice jam sandwich has always calmed me down in the past; maybe it'll help me gain some perspective." Unfortunately, once he arrives he discovers, to his dismay, that even the jam is gone. With everything seemingly crumbling around him, Jim spirals into despair.
Ah, I get hwat you mean now. And I shed a tear for poor Jim. : P

I don't get how they were being pretentious. Do you see pretentiousness as synonymous with humourous or interesting?

I never saw any physical copies of Portal by itself at all. Thus my disbelief.
Yes, they did.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Arts-Portal-PC-DVD/dp/B00169L9C2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293035926&sr=8-1

Stupid price tag. We sued to sell it for £10.00 in the Gamestation I used to work in here in the UK, which was pretty absurd as the Orang Box was only £15.00. This price tag is just dumb.

Portal was first released as part of The Orange Box for Microsoft Windows (both retail and through Steam), Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3; in addition to Portal, the Box also included Half-Life 2 and its two add-on episodes and Team Fortress 2. Portal's inclusion within the Box was considered an experiment by Valve; having no idea of the success of Portal, the Box provided it a "safety net" via means of these other games. Portal was kept to a modest length in case the game did not go over well with players.[30] Since then, a standalone version of the game was released for Microsoft Windows users.

I saw it all the time at my EBGames and so i bought it. It was sold as a stand alone game.
