Morrowind theme

Ahhhhh, that just sweeps a wave of nostalgia over me. I miss my Morrowind days but my Level 20 savegame got deleted and I don't have the time to return to that hallowed land.

I always enjoyed the soundtracks of Tekken 2 & 3, Final Fantasy VIII (it's of no consequence, but I totally share a birthday with Nobuo Uematsu..), and the Terran themes from Starcraft. Plus, Akira Yamaoka's work on the Silent Hill series is absolutely stellar--although some of the songs with vocals are a bit cheesy.

Still. Greatest video game soundtrack ever, a la opinion d'me;

And holy crap, how did I forget:

Amazing stuff!

Timesplitters!

Timesplitters 1-3 have some of the best soundtracks of all time. Composed by the masterful Graeme Norgate.

I'll find the best examples.

And there's so much more that I didn't include.
I completely agree with this, the Timesplitters soundtracks were brilliant. I'm also a huge fan of the soundtracks to the Kingdom Hearts games.

The Dark Cloud games had awesome music, especially their opening themes.

Castlevania - Vampire Killer.
Awesome music for some skelly-whippin'

Tales of Symphonia - Fighting of the Spirit.
Had a hard time choosing between this and Fatalize.

Final Fantasy 6 (3) - Terra's Theme.
Epic, Mystical and Sad overworld theme- with an inspirational modulation. (and awesome "brass" parts) Really makes you feel like you've traveled land and sea.

Sorry for not properly embedding the vid's, i really tried >.<

Also agree 100% with the Jet Force Gemini one, Halo should be envious of that one =P
(But really, Marty's tracks are pretty awesome aswell.)

Guilty Gear. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Specifically, XX.

<youtube=bzWl5wCZRU8>

Also, apparently the developers saved all the ungodly OSTs for the Korean version of Blue Reload.

I also loved Shadow of the Colossus's soundtrack but I really love and consistently listen to the Little Big Planet soundtrack.

Well the halo theme, super mario theme and tetris theme have gone down in history. I would say they top everything on recognisability, but there are plenty of others i'm sure.

The Metroid Prime series, in particular the first game. Perfect blend of really laid-back atmospheric music and intense boss fight music.

Funnily enough, I was watching the trailer for Mario Galaxy 2 yesterday, and was overcome with the need to download the soundtrack for the original game. However, for my favourite game soundtrack, I think it would have to be the Smash Bros. Melee one, because it features so many classic Nintendo tunes.

I'm trying to make an "essential" list for OSTs, but I'm running into snags. Here's a beta list (title (system) - genre):

1. Tetrisphere (N64) - Puzzle
2. The New Tertis (N64) - Puzzle
3. Touhou 6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Windows) - shmup
4. Touhou 11: Subterrenean Animism (Windows) - shmup
5. Sonic CD Japan (Sega CD) - platform
6. F-Zero X (N64) - racing
7. Pump It Up: Banya discog (Arcade) - music game
8. pop?n music 12 Iroha (Arcade) -music game
9. beatmania IIDX 12th style HAPPY SKY (Arcade) - music game
10. Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii) - fighting
11. Super Mario RPG (SNES) - RPG
12. Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Whatever
13. Persona 4 (PS2) - RPG
14. Disgaea (PS2) - RPG
15. Phantom Brave (PS2) - RPG
16. Jet Set Radio (Dreamcast) - platforming and adventure
17. Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Genesis) - platforming
18. Streets of Rage 2 (Arcade) - beat em up
19. Street Fighter 2 (Arcade) - fighting
20. Silent Hill 3 (PS2) - horror
21. Gitaroo Man (PS2) - music game
22. Parappa the Rapper Trilogy (PS1 and PS2) - music game
23. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Arcade) - fighting
24. Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast) - platform
25. We Love Katamari (PS2) - whatever
26. Kingdom Hearts (PS2) - RPG
27. Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) - platform
28. Doom (PC) - FPS
29. Earthbound (SNES) - RPG
30. Kirby Super Star (SNES) - Adventure
31. Crazy Bus (Trollicom) - Nothing
32. Legend of the Mystical Ninja (N64) - adventure
33. Final Fantasy X (PS2) - RPG
34. Banjo and Kazooie (N64) - Adventure
35. No More Heroes (Wii) - action
36. F-Zero GX (Gamecube) - racing
37. BlazBlue (360) - fighting
38. Tales of Vesperia (360) - RPG
39. Chrono Cross (SNES) - RPG
40. Keyboardmania 3rd mix (Arcade) - Music game

I'm missing a lot of worthwhile titles, and I feel that a good chunk of them can be dropped and replaced. The purpose is to include OSTs of note, whether through the quality of the music, their influential impact, or (in some cases) the infamy behind them, and at the same time, diverse.

Halo, World of Warcraft, Modern Warfare 2 (except the annoying menu music that you can't disable).

No mention of Guilty Gear or Blazblue music!? I are disappoint. I could ramble on and on about Final Fantasy, Chrono trigger and whatnot, but those have already been stated. And yet no one has mentioned Guilty gears or Blazblues music? It kicks more ass than a drunken Friday night at an Irish pub!!

Diasuke Ishiwatari kicks supreme ass.

I still can't quite believe it, but it's happened: My (ex-)favorite game soundtrack, the Shadow of the Colossus OST, has been kicked off its throne. It has been replaced by the Soundtrack for Squeenix's new Action-JRPG, Nier, a game I hadn't heard anything about at all and rented out of utter boredom and for lack of something more interesting to play.

Seriously, the game, as weirdly charming as it is, is far from making it anywhere near my list of favorites, but the soundtrack is the best I've heard in my entire life. It's that good.
