Gaming's most annoying features....that suprisingly, we've gotten used to.

Reloading: There is nothing more controller breakingly, wall kickingly annoying then when you get shot and killed just as you about to take someone else out, ONLY because you thought it the best time to reload, drives me absolutely mad.

Anyway, yeah, post a few here :D

Automatically throwing away a weapon when it runs out of ammo always bothered me.

Quick Time Events. Cover-Based Combat.

Seriously, we've gotten so used to that crap. I hated Gears of War 1, so I never quite got why cover-based combat caught on. I just found it annoying and game-breaking, then suddenly it's in awhole load of games and genres that I like.

And yeah, QTEs have been covered by others. They seem to be in the process of dying out though, so I guess I should be thankful.

Your in a boss fight, you whittle him down to a sliver of his health, then BAM!, you die. You restart in one of two ways: Somewhere in the level before the boss, or right before the fight starts. Either way, you have to do everything over again until you win.

This is not fun. At all. It is, and never was fun. Please stop doing this. I suggest the Infamous route, where there's checkpoints throughout the fight. So when you restart, his health is close to where it was beforehand(Checkpoints would activate when 1/3 of his health is lowered, and continue from there). Much like Infamous.

And another thing, don't force me to watch the cutscene with him right beforehand every single time. Its even worse if its unskippable, which it usually is. For this, go the Sly Cooper route, where you don't show the same freaking scene over and over again, but take us right into the battle.

Dualshock vibrations always bothered me at first, and when you had to use the analog sticks and couldnt turn it off (Ape Escape). But I'm used to it now.

Mostly, I think its how developers dont let one of the analog sticks be camera control with any accuracy. I mean you have 360, well... 540 degree control if you include pushing the stick into the controller and we cant get the camera to work? Though, thats not as bad as the games that dont give you control of the camera and just make it do its own thing.

Me: This game would be cool with multiplayer
Developers: Oh? Okay, we added online multiplayer.
Me: No...I meant normal, bot mode multiplayer, where I can bring my REAL friends around to game.
Developers: Well sorry, this is the only multiplayer we can give you.
Me: And why is that?
Developers: Because of polygons, framerate, blah blah blah
Me: What about split screen co-op?
Developers: Helloooo? Polygons? Framerate? blah blah blah?

Here's an idea, how about we allow quicksaving and ditch this checkpoint bullshit. I personally like the challenge of killing a boss in one go, but being allowed to quicksave after a tedious section would be important too.

FULLY agree with you on the cutscene stuff. SO annoying and pointless.

The need for hardware upgrades. One of the major factors I never got into PC gaming.

Yeh, that. Irritating and freaks me out whenever it happens.

Many controllers were lost due to vibrating off of a table.

Grinding, specifically the fact most JRPGs can't seem to live without them. I acknowledge that there are some weird people out there who wil sit around and grind for hours on end so they can beat a certain bonus boss (eg. Dark Aeon) or get an achievement. But shit like that should only ever be for the truly die hard and so optional. Forcing grinding as part of the normal game is just annoying (I'm looking at you Lost Odyssey and your fucking electrical worm fuckers) and puts me off like nothing else.

I play JRPGs for the story and characters (cliched though they may be, I enjoy them), not for the combat (unless it's great fun, like The Last Remnant). I much prefer how Eternal Sonata did things by erring on the side of easy and having little to no need for grinding. Instead of Lost Odyssey as I previously mentioned, which seems to require it to progress from pretty much the start of the game. That doesn't give me much hope for what comes after whatever barrier I'm stuck at.

What about those times you have a controller on and its sitting on a hard surface, next thing you know the entire table starts vibrating ans scares the shit out of you :D That's happened a few times to me, lol

not being able to skip really BORING cutscenes
being told where to go when i was already told at another time (and then repeatedly)
the game freezing for no apparent reason except it couldn't load fast enough and therefore having to reset the console
not being able to have 2 player mode (or multi) that isn't connected to the net (seriously! what's wrong with playing with a person then playing against some git half the world away who'll just mock you when you loose!?)
lack of diverse genres/characters in games both out and coming
and the stereotypes in games and the way you can always tell that so-and-so is going to die!
not enough/or lack there of of story/plot in a game
(if in a difficult/long game) only allowed to save somany times/at certain points that are FAR too wide apart for comfort!
being timed when you pause or access the menu!! what!? the damn game's racking my time just for wanting to go to the bog!??
being killed by stupid AI enemies when my bullets were deflected by his invisible moron shield
being scored and then told i suck
being punished for being curios/inquizative about exploring this fantasy world
open-world games that are in fact, very liniar zzzzzz*snort*
or the one i really hate - cliches!! (i have a list but i'm going to mention the one that really riles me: forced love intrest! - they have nothing in common (more likely hate each other's guts) and suddenly there together! or love at first sight! )
and last female characters that are independant being turned into complete bitches (i'm looking at you! cynder!) or suddenly turned into damsels-in-destress... what!??

Having split screen that can't go online split screen. Only a couple ps3 games do this, and maybe twice as many 360 games but it isn't common, yet it should be. It bridges the gap between split screen and online.

EDIT: Perhaps my BIGGEST pet peeve is when you watch a long cutscene, fight a boss, you die, and you spawn BEFORE the cutscene, and you can't skip it! What's worse, is sometimes you keep dying and dying, because the boss fight is all about memory and you can't get back into the game fast enough to really remember the flow of it.

This. I absolutely HATE the absence of multiplayer bots. Also, I always wondered why there was never 4 player co-op. Four controller per console... four people can play multiplayer... so, why no co-op? The only mode I actually like playing in CoD MW 2 is the spec ops. Those have bots, and are fun.

Pointless lenght-padding sections. The end of AC2 made you go hunt down the last few codex pages. I had to run across almost every city, I ended up spending as much time loading as running to pages. Great game, annoying situation.

I think one thing I've gotten used to is saving princesses, can you guess why? Yet..it doesn't seem to bother me.

Though it has always bugged me, if someone kept kidnapping your girlfriend, wouldn't you put a bullet through thier head...alternatively call the police about it :D

I don't like how some final bosses are easier than previous ones. It's really annoying when that happens. I expect a friggin challenge.

Easily.
