Gaming's most annoying features....that suprisingly, we've gotten used to.

The faux-Taliban from Medal of Honor agree. Damn Americans with their hardware upgrades.

I'm absolutely dreading Arkham City because it looks like that's exactly what they're going to do to Catwoman.

Sadly not unique to video games.

Grinding, specifically the fact most JRPGs can't seem to live without them. I acknowledge that there are some weird people out there who wil sit around and grind for hours on end so they can beat a certain bonus boss (eg. Dark Aeon) or get an achievement. But shit like that should only ever be for the truly die hard and so optional. Forcing grinding as part of the normal game is just annoying (I'm looking at you Lost Odyssey and your fucking electrical worm fuckers) and puts me off like nothing else.

I play JRPGs for the story and characters (cliched though they may be, I enjoy them), not for the combat (unless it's great fun, like The Last Remnant). I much prefer how Eternal Sonata did things by erring on the side of easy and having little to no need for grinding. Instead of Lost Odyssey as I previously mentioned, which seems to require it to progress from pretty much the start of the game. That doesn't give me much hope for what comes after whatever barrier I'm stuck at.
Exactly this- I couldn't agree more. I was greatly enjoying Lost Odyssey- until I found a boss that I absolutely couldn't beat without figuring out a way to level-grind. I love my JRPGs, but my impatience makes me leave 'em for a different game after too much forced level-grinding. Really, you took the words right out of my mouth, good sir. (And I still haven't gone back to Lost Odyssey... hm.)

Me: This game would be cool with multiplayer
Developers: Oh? Okay, we added online multiplayer.
Me: No...I meant normal, bot mode multiplayer, where I can bring my REAL friends around to game.
Developers: Well sorry, this is the only multiplayer we can give you.
Me: And why is that?
Developers: Because of polygons, framerate, blah blah blah
Me: What about split screen co-op?
Developers: Helloooo? Polygons? Framerate? blah blah blah?
This. I absolutely HATE the absence of multiplayer bots. Also, I always wondered why there was never 4 player co-op. Four controller per console... four people can play multiplayer... so, why no co-op? The only mode I actually like playing in CoD MW 2 is the spec ops. Those have bots, and are fun.
Developers assume that we gamers have no real friends, if we really had REAL friends worth playing four player zombie mode in Black Ops with, we would be outside....playing football.....and getting girlfriends ¬_¬

It's pretty stupid that back in the day we had TV screens as tiny as f**k but had 2/4/6/8 player split screen modes, now, half of gamers have an almost cinema sized tv screen that gives each gamer thier own TV more or less on the same screen, but all games are single player, so we have this big screen and no one to share it with.

Racing games with no multiplayer...whos stupid idea was that, lol

You don't need constant hardware upgrades.
Yeah, I know :/ I just have hands of ham[footnote]And obviously, a brain of cheese. I think I understood half of what you said about your specs. The rest, I'm sure, you made up to trick me.[/footnote], so I need others to do any installations, even (rarely) the plugging-in of peripherals. Invariably, it'll turn out I made incorrect choices last time around, so modern stuff doesn't work.

The last time I invested any great amount on a computer, it was unable to run games that came out a month later.

Besides, computers hurt too much to use. Consoles are much nicer to my body.

I particularly hate it when games say they're realistic. I don't want that from my games. I play games to escape realism. I also hate it when games have cinematic cutscenes you can't skip. Now I'm okay with the way Valve did their cutscenes in Half Life 2, where while you couldn't skip them you could also still wander around and cock about while the actors did their thing if you wanted. I'm starting to get tired of the main menu being super-imposed over real-time game graphics. I get it, it was cool when HL2 did it, but dammit it makes my shit lag like hell when I first start the game and it defaults to 1080P maxed out on a system that can barely do 1600x1200!!!

You don't need constant hardware upgrades. One big overhaul each time the consoles update will keep you nice and kosher with game settings because devs are too lazy to bother giving PC releases the meat they need to tax machines. I'm doing just fine with a five year old socket 939 dual core, 4GB of DDR1 and an ex-folding@home 8800GS 384 because of the stagnation. You could recreate my rig for the price of a brand new 360.
I don't mind these sorts of cut scenes either, but I think sometime even those are annoyingly extended, then you get killed and have to go through it ALL OVER AGAIN!

It's not too bad if there are things to do while the characters get on with it, press buttons, see things operating, sort of as a distraction, but letting me run about and hop on top of things but still being forced to endure a 5 minute + cutscene is no less tedious than it would be had I not been given the freedom to move about.

As stated before a lack of REAL multiplayer, me and a buddy got Alien VS. Predator and after we both tooled around with the single player it was time to go head to head.... except you couldn't with out playing online....

Unskippable cutscenes, JUST LET ME KILL IT!

Quick time events, seriously screw those things, just finish the damn cut scene and give me control back

Genetically-enhanced supersoldiers. Seriously, if you want to play one, go oldschool and play a Schpess Mahreen. Those are the cool ones. (though apparently shoulders are vulnerable.) People have been copying the bejeezus out of Halo for way too long.

predictable stories. We've seen 'em a thousand times, yet we keep coming back for more. And then proceed to ***** about the lack of originality in games.

Foul-mouthed racists on XBox Live, PSN and PC. Sadly, we accept them as an unfortunate part of the community. We just mute them and move on. Now if you're a 12-year-old, that's a different story...

hyper-sexualized females. For the most part, I don't mind, but I do draw the line somewhere. coughDeadorAlivecough

And everything previously mentioned (f***ing pre-boss cutscenes...)

Character Creation/Customisation through unlocks. Why can't I make my character look they way I want them too at the beginning, opposed to after I've finished the game?!

You don't need accuracy when you have auto-aim.

OT:
The death of local multiplayer. Seriously, makers of games on consoles, stop pretending your online modes are worth a flying shite. We want to play our games (and no I don't mean Wii-fucking-bowling) against our mates sitting right next to us. Sort it out.

I've noticed a disturbing lack of life bars in recent games. What the fuck happened to life bars? It seems like it's generally accepted, too. Am I the only one that finds this irritating?

grinding...Okay, I can understand why people might like it, as it really requires no thought, and maybe you can multitask and watch a show/movie while doing so, but I personally can't stand it, and it's an absolute game breaker for me. Seriously, game, don't waste my time.
