Thumbsticks. How do you people use those damn things with any accuracy?
You don't need accuracy when you have auto-aim.
That's been my experience with 'em... it's still frustrating even just to walk around with 'em for me, though... I've long since sworn off all first-person console games because of 'em.

Another annoying feature of gaming.

Giving RPG monsters 999999999999999999999hp WTF!?! When I see that, all I want to do is switch off and go outside into the sunlight.

God damn red screen of death
Only being able to carry 2 guns and take 4 bullets in FPSs

Load screens, mother effing load screens!
This is a problem of moving data from a storage location to a place where operations can be performed with it. It is less of a problem with PC games as data transfer from a hard drive to memory is relatively fast. By contrast, reading from optical media (say that DVD reader in your Xbox) is quite a bit slower at only a fraction of the speed.

This problem can not be *resolved* entirely, but you can mitigate it. For example, with sufficient memory you can load what is immediately necessary and start the game while the rest of the data is loaded in the background. Alternately you can store the media in such a way that it is able to be loaded quicker (certain kinds of RAID configurations for example). You can segment your game such that loading screens are relatively brief but more regular. Or you can try the (incredibly unpopular) method of having multiple sets of data - one that is relatively small (but ugly) that can be loaded quickly while the better looking (and larger) version loads in the background. The unfortunate problem of the latter method is that the transition from the low fidelity asset to the high fidelity asset can be jarring.

Timelimits, without a doubt.

I absolutely hate being stressed out when playing. I'm the kind of person who prefers to take my sweet time and explore every single area.

Oh, and quicktime events, but that one's a given.

Achievements/Trophies.

They're always slighty immersion-breaking to me, yet they're as much a part of gaming now as the pause screen.

I've noticed a disturbing lack of life bars in recent games. What the fuck happened to life bars? It seems like it's generally accepted, too. Am I the only one that finds this irritating?
I agree completely! I'm sick of the mandatory blood splatter on the screen and everything going black and white!

Bioshock 2 had health bars though, so that's one current gen game at least.

Split-screen's been said.

Another though is Call of Duty-esque games.

I love Call of Duty. I play it a lot. My favorite is still UO. No minimap, no ridiculous knifing, no idiotic perks or unlockable weapons, not even an indication for bullet impact against your enemy. Just the player, a gun, and a bunch of people running around in Nazi uniforms to shoot. It remains one of the most fluid games available.

But GoldenEye killed it for me. God fucking dammit. I hate what a bunch of people trying to cash in on Call of Duty's success did to that game. I wanted stupid fun where karate chopping midgets ran around with an arsenal of weapons on their back.

"Gee, should I kill that guy with the watch laser, the klobb, or maybe I'll throw a remote mine on him." Oh wait, I can't because I can only carry generic weapons A or generic weapon B.

"Shit, that guy just shot me. Wait, after thinking it over for a few seconds behind this crate, I suddenly feel a second wind. My wounds are healing as if Jesus Christ himself granted me his powers." Nevermind, that's some ***** ass health regeneration.

"I really am enjoying this round we're playing in Facility -oh my mistake- I'm really enjoying this round in Gas Tanks and Ladders."

1 Thing....
Auto-Climb

I had MANY times that I am hiding behind some sort of wall and than want to shoot him and the thing just climbs the freaking wall! Leaving me open for at least 3 seconds.

So much rage O_0

Health regeneration. I blame CoD 2 for the idea. It doesn't make any sense. It makes the game 10 times easier, it takes away a lot of strategic thinking. I mean, all you have to do is hide until your health returns to 100 and you're all set. Back in the old days you'd have to watch your ass and plan your movement and find some health packs.

Exactly this- I couldn't agree more. I was greatly enjoying Lost Odyssey- until I found a boss that I absolutely couldn't beat without figuring out a way to level-grind. I love my JRPGs, but my impatience makes me leave 'em for a different game after too much forced level-grinding. Really, you took the words right out of my mouth, good sir. (And I still haven't gone back to Lost Odyssey... hm.)
Dude, I just got it today, give me a break! :p
Heh. See, I got Lost Odyssey a few months ago. I got onto the third disc in three or four weeks... and then... well, I have gone about a half-hour past that since. Curse my lack of level-grinding the appropriate characters. >.<

Genetically-enhanced supersoldiers. Seriously, if you want to play one, go oldschool and play a Schpess Mahreen. Those are the cool ones. (though apparently shoulders are vulnerable.) People have been copying the bejeezus out of Halo for way too long.
Wait. You think Halo had the original Space Marines?

I think I can sum it up to Consoles. Or rather, console controls. The worst games I try are the ones who have been ported from or made to work with consoles. It basically boils down to controls; I hate having a single key be "context sensitive", because it always fucks up in the end. Third person shooters annoy me, too. It ruins any immersion whatsoever, it makes it difficult to assert when your character is within melee distance, it makes aiming a *****.. overall just ruins a game. A toggle between first and third person is fine, but at least give me the option to view stuff through my character's own eyes.

Lastly, "cool" characters. Y'know, the ones that have all the witty one-liners and are incredibly badass and awesome and infallible? The ones we're not playing, but supposed to like to hear talk and bring them along for their banter? Yeah. They piss me right off. The amount of fanboyism and inane worship of these characters is staggeringly huge, and they'll go about spewing these out of context one-liners until the next "awesum" character comes along. Used to be I'd find these characters charming and interesting, but since the days of Baldur's Gate I haven't seen any who do it well. Oh, well.

Automatically throwing away a weapon when it runs out of ammo always bothered me.
That's heaps shit. I mean, I suppose since you don't have any ammo, it doesn't really matter but, what the hell? Why not just grey it out like every other game?
