Character Creation/Customisation through unlocks. Why can't I make my character look they way I want them too at the beginning, opposed to after I've finished the game?!
Add this to the fact that armor pieces almost always never match another set, meaning those going for stats have to sacrifice the look of their character while those going for looks have to sacrifice stats.
Also, while I complain about these, I'm mostly pacified to them:
Stun/knockdown attacks by enemies- Almost always ends badly
Camera zoom through level before I begin- I want to explore it in all its glory. Don't spoil it for me
Useless manuals- used to be that a manual was a prized treasure that acted as a small incentive to buy new. Now I don't give a crap because they are 4 pieces of paper stapled together (with at best 1 screenshot rather than artwork, and it's in black and white) that the tutorial makes unnecessary.
Cover- Few games do more with this than force me into a sped up trench warfare. Cover was an evolution of exploiting the level to survive an onslaught, but is now the sole focus.
Magic bars- Health I understand and am fine with, but this I don't understand. At the very least make this recover on its own.
Item limit- this was only born because it was impossible to have large amounts of items back when gaming was young. Fallout 3 was fine because it added to the whole feel of surviving in a wasteland, however other games I don't give this freedom to. Why can't I have a proper amount of items?!
Levels (stats)- Most pacified to these, but they truly are useless in anything but an RPG, where they are the only way to make certain you are challenged and kept in one area.
Bonus bosses- strangely, I only complain about how hard these are, rather than a lot of other problems here. Why are they more powerful than the final boss, yet A) reward me with an item that would have been useful to fight both of them and B) not out there acting as the antagonist?
Achievements- Sadly, I'm more than used to them: I've embraced them. Yet, nothing ruins a cutscene (and it will be the first time you see it too) than an interruption like that, and they do nothing more than add to an imaginary number (math majors, don't you fucking start here. I'm facing a Calc 2 final and I'm not in the mood for those jokes). And if you don't get everything, it shows up, making what should have been an extra feel like you didn't complete everything. They've also replace in-game rewards for the most part.
WASD- Put your hand in the position you use to move on the PC. Notice how strange this really is (considering that most of the keys are now to the right, with some of the keys requiring a huge movement of the hand to reach). Of course, it's no better than the start, select buttons (with guitar peripherals having the worst of these as you will only hit those if you need to restart). Still, I always have a hard time getting used to PC controls the most.
Dungeons- they are all samey, dark, and often bland, yet I'm completely used to them
Standard array of weaponary- look at the genre and you can tell what half the weapons will be for the most part. Fantasy will give you variations of swords, bows, and staffs, while shooters will give out the pistol, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper, and explosive weapon you never get ammo for
