Just put on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (entire album) and just let her enjoy the magic.

Also, Love Me Do and I Wanna Hold Your Hand since it looks like no one's mentioned those.

That piano bit near the end is what really sells the song for me.
Hate to pick some nits but it's a harpsicord it's a very different instrument.

OT: Hey Buldog is one of my faves as are her majesty and you know my name, but they're probably a bit too silly for a new recruit.

The one Beatles discussion I have with my friends is this: Which Beatles song is the best Beatles song ever: Come Together or Back in the USSR. These are the only 2 choices.

Also, allow me to top you. My Sophmore year roomate, an old friend from High School was in the room with me when I was playing music. And he looked at me confused when I mentioned Stairway to Heaven.

Yes. That's right. He had never heard Stairway to Heaven or any Led Zeppelin.
I would have made him leave. Straight away.

Any song from the White Album should do the trick, especially Back in the USSR.
Really? Any song from that album? Including Revolution 9 and Why Don't We Do It In the Road? *shudder*
I don't know what you're talking about. Why Don't We Do It In The Road? is awesome. XD

No no absolutely not! and I absolutely understand not liking, but those of us who do like them tend to really love them, so we can have these types of conversations. I assumed those who did not like the Beatles would just ignore the thread considering the band name is in the subject line...
Discussion is for both sides of the coin. Plus you were saying to everyone reading, without prejudice, that it was shocking someone didn't listen to The Beatles, to which I pointed out that I don't as well as a lot of people. Didn't want to piss on the bonfire, just saying.

And? The majority of people don't know about my favorite band, but I don't act like that when they say so. Obviously, Rise Against are quite as famous as The Beatles, but I listen to them all the time, and love every single one of their songs like a child. I'm a huge fan, but I don't act like you when people say ''Who are they?''
I gotta back up the OP on this. It's not a matter of taste. It's a matter of the shock at how deeply under a rock you have to live to have never heard of The Beatles. Its not so much bad as it is surprising.
But she HAD heard of them, which makes it worse. She did know about them, and knew some of their songs! The majority of people don't even know half the bands I like exist, never mind name songs by them!
Yeah, but your not talking about one of the most popular bands ever. And again, it isn't about taste or preference, its about how in society, there's a number of things that you naturally assume that EVERYONE is aware of because they are ubiquitous. And though this person has heard of the Beatles, she is certainly a few deviations away from the mean in terms of Beatles knowledge. I don't think that the OP is floored by her taste in music, he is floored by how someone could manage to not be exposed to a variety of Beatles music. It is definitely an anomaly.

Yeah, I do not particularly enjoy the Beatles, and I wouldn't sing along either. That's not a shocker.

I don't feel everyone is obligated to know your musical tastes, no matter how popular they were.

my problem was a bunch of annoying girls I knew saw Across The Universe (the film) and bought the soundtrack. I always wanted to listen to the the actual thing, but some people... just like what's familiar. I like that movie, but there's no question the Beatles version of their own songs is superior.

Knowing a little about the Beatles is part of cultural literacy, that being said... fuck cultural literacy. If someone doesn't know Beatles, share it like you would any other music. Chances are they'll like it...

On of my favourites is Yesterday a solo by Paul McCartney, it's very simple and elegant but just a beautiful piece of music.

All you need is Love is the general feel good Beatles song.

My overall favourite is probably Hey Jude, also a very feel good song especially with a crowd singing along.

I'm really just here to talk to you about Beatledicks. You know, Beatledicks. I'll give you an example.

Me: "...along with her name; nobody came."
Beatledick: Oh, the Beatles! I love the Beatles!
Me: Big fan, eh?
Beatledick: Yeah! The Beatles are great!
Me: So what's your favorite song?
Beatledick: Yellow Submarine is pretty great!
Me: Uh... huh... Personally, I like the White Album.
Beatledick: What?

Just listen to the Beatles One Album. It has all of their singles and most well known songs, so, the list has already been made for you. Songs not from that album though...

Anything from Sgt Pepper, In My Life, The Abbey Road Medley.......

Well, just show her the songs from the Beatles One and just any personal favorites you have. There, done and done!

It's good to see that hating something popular no matter how old hasn't gone out of style. Whoa, can you imagine the day that people hate on hating on popular things because its a popular thing to do? That's a bit of a mind fuck right there.

From the title, I thought you meant she had never heard of the Beetles at all. Yes, I have met a few people that haven't heard of them at all. All I could do was shake my head.

Sorry, I can't be more help. I don't know them well enough to actually suggest their songs. But I never complain when they are on.

Having never heard of the Beatles is stupid, having never heard of a Beatles song is fine.

I listened to my first Beatles song about a year ago and i was really disappointed, not only were they terrible, but the fact that soooooooooooo many people talk about them as though hey were gods

Don't get what all the fussing is about. They're popular...but I wouldn't consider them all that good. Nothing about their music ever leaped out at me. If they've never heard or don't like them...no big deal. They really are JUST another band.
