Also I'm glad people besides me understand that strapping a chainsaw onto a gun is a stupid idea for multiple reasons.

I can't see how you could compare the lancer to the light saber, the light saber was iconic because it was aimed at skinny nerds that thought ninja magic powers in the future was cool.
Where as the lancer appears to be aimed at nerds in denial.

Wielding the lancer would dint your accuracy quite a lot and the blade has to be incredibly sharp and strong to cut through bone easily. A light saber deflects lasers can cut through solid metals. Jeez, I wonder which is better?

Flamebait, much? I play Gears pretty regularly, and I'd not describe myself as a knuckle-dragger, though my arms are longer than I am tall, so perhaps you have a point.

Also, remember that the players have no control over what some Epic underling chooses to say, and (as apparent from the rest of the replies on this thread) us players mostly agree with you on the "Epic needs to issue an edict stating that their employees are not permitted to speak in public" part.

That's a pretty bold statement, one I already don't see them living up to, and won't see them living up to in the next 10 years... Just my opinion though... Gears never did it for me. Played through em both, and yeah, really not my thing.

I really couldn't even play through the first one. It was so.... mediocre.

Not to start a major rant but Star Wars didn't become iconic by trying to be, it because iconic because it reaches people, and it makes the little guy feel like he cans save the universe.
AND LIGHTSABERS ARE THE COOLEST!

That aside, what makes Star Wars so universally appealing is that despite its fantastical nature it is a story we can relate to, geeks and nerds and 'normals' alike can all find something to love about a story of valour, redemption, romance, honour, personal development...the force - and it's super cool sci fi-ness!!!
Now I am a Gears fan, but I enjoy it for what it is, massive muscle bound men (who make up 0.0000001% of the population of real men in our world) with unrealistically powerful weaponry, blowing up, breaking, hacking, burning and generally mutilating an enemy that your not completely sure why you're fighting - and that?s fine, its an FPS, we don't always need more depth than that.

None of us could BE Cole or Fenix and none of us WANT to be DOM least of all me coz I'm a girl and that would be weird ? but you can watch Star Wars and say to yourself, hey, yeah I could be Han or Leia (and if you are especially hairy then Chewy too) so while I enjoy GOW for what it is, it's just ludicrous arrogance to suggest that this game is going to have the same mass appeal as a ground breaking, industry changing, cult epic like Star Wars.
He might as well have said Marcus Fenix is the new Jesus (although I wager some of you would have found that less offensive)

Honestly, a lightsaber can deflect incoming fire (or incinerate it), could a gun with a chainsaw mounted on it do that?

Furthermore, you can personalize a lightsaber, but what about a Lancer? What, ya gonna put stickers on it? Repaint it, perhaps?

Bottom line people: should I invest my hard earned (hah, yeah right) cash into the Gears of War series?

I never did get round to buying it, and people seem to be talking about it all the time, which is increasingly making me wonder if I'm missing out on a truly amazing gaming series.

Eh, just rent one of the 5873645076 identical games that have come out for the 360. No great loss.
