Misa looked at the King Giant Rat again before looking towards the smaller rats.
If it's run by a monarchy then wouldn't the king dying kill the rest?
Happy with her logic, she cracks her whip again before pulling up the combat menu.

She winked this time and wiggled in her finger at the King Rat before whips sprung out of the walls and grabbed its tail and neck.
"Pull him apart"n she said giddily.

Merle winced at the wounds caused by the rats, and darted between the other members of the party to hide closer to the back. In her experience the others generally did more damage than she could ever hope to, and the longer she was out of harm's way, the longer she could keep everyone else healthy.

This time there was no running about as she cast. She kept a close eye on everyone else's status bars and HP counts when they were hit, wondering if another mass minor Heal would be worth it.

 

[Anarchemitis]

A flurry of fur and gnattering brown filth exploded out of the masonry of the building, followed by a horrifying hissing noise. The Rat King bore its teeth, as yellow as sulphur and just as odoriferous. A small shiny crown sat atop its head, not much bigger than a coffee pot, sitting there appearing to function more as spite to sense than addition to beauty.
"Speak of the Devil!" exclaimed Skullivan.
Without hesitation various members of the party began battle with the boisterous brute, appearing to be rather successful in injuring it.
A grotesque gurgling squealch came from its throat, beckoning more giant rats to aid it, one of them diving at Skullivan. Having seen an equivicable combative situation before, Skullivan stood there mirroring the apathetic logic of the rat which jumped at him, watching it fly into his chest, initiating a fliff of flame with a "Phut.". The ran began running in small circles near the wall, on fire.
The Rat King lifted one of its feet, bring it back down with a thud!, making a small tremor and shaking loose some of the dirt in the ceiling. The foot began glowing a faint pink.

I'm really sorry, but I just can't try and keep track of 10 HP bars, so I'll only be telling the HP of enemies. When your characters receive damage, they will come in the form of wounds, and will be healed when healing spells or items are used.

I will still be keeping track of all XP you gain and such.

After their attacks, the King Giant Rat's HP flashed over it's head.

King Giant Rat
HP: 2473/3000

Then it went away again before the flurry of attacks from the adventurers.

Finny's blades hurt the King Giant Rat for 20 damage each, leaving no wound, surprisingly. Jamie managed to kill the rat he attacked, giving them 4 XP, now needing 396 XP until they'd reach level 2. Freeze killed the rat he targeted and gained 4 XP, now needing 386 XP until he'd reach level 2. Jackrum's attack left it squealing in pain as the fire burned the King Giant Rat from the inside, causing 160 damage to it. It slapped Jackrum away from it with one front paw, sending him slamming against a wall. The two rats Xandus killed gave him 8 XP, he now needed 364 XP until level 2. The whip that grabbed the King Giant Rat's tail managed to rip it off, causing 200 damage to it, while the one that held around it's neck didn't do too well. The King Giant Rat used a claw on one front paw to cut the whip off it's neck. Skullivan's pan hit it's front foot and caused 30 damage to it.

Again, it's HP flashed over it's head for a short while.

King Giant Rat
HP: 2043/3000

The King Giant Rat now approached the adventurers further, and getting into a position, it jumped into the air and landed on some of the adventurers, namely, Misa, Finny, Xandus, Merle and Jamie. It didn't kill them, but man was the King Giant Rat heavy nonetheless. It crawled off of them and went back in front of the hole in the wall it had made. The Giant Rats around it were 5 in number and again attacked some of the adventurers.

"I think we're doing good" Misa yelled over the noise of the battle before opening her menu for what she hoped was the last time during this battle. Before she could pick something, she was hit by the King Giant Rat and started coughing blood before standing up again. She opened her comabt menu, keeping her eyes closed so she didn't have to see the King Giant Rat lumbering over her.

Misa danced along with the boss battle music before striking a pose, ice crystals coming out of the air that smashed into the Rat King's Mouth.

 

[Xero Scythe]

Grana collapsed as he hit the wall, coughing. He checked himself and was relieved that he hadn't been injured- he merely had the wind knocked out of him. "Good thing my head didn't hit first." he choaked out, managing to get back his breath. He pulled out Hades. "Oy! Rat bastard! Yes, you with the stupid crown! Your enemy is me!" Jackrum thought it best to make sure the mages were the least injured- they at least could cast heal later on. Jackrum pulled up his menu.

Jackrum took aim and fired at the King Rat. Six shots were squeezed off, each aimed at the base of the neck. He then took out his skin refill canteen he used to store alcohol before it went in the metal flask. He unscrewed the top and threw it towards the creature, laughing as Frostbite got into the creatures' fur, soaking it. "Funny thing about Frostbite," Jackrum explained while walking towards the King Giant Rat, taking the cigar out of his mouth. "Until it reacts with metal, it's very, very flammable. Sucks for you, eh?" Jackrum flicked his cigar towards the rat, lit end as unerring as an arrow towards the alcohol. Without even bothering to pull up his other screens, Jackrum went into skillsets. "How I love skill mapping." He grinned.

Jackrum drew Explosia and was ready this time. If the rat king tried to swat at him again, that arm was his.

 

[Fishtie]

The shadowy figure that had been following the group had watched them for some time. When one of the party had turned to face and threaten it the figure had been quite surprised. Clearly that person was much more alert then the others. However, with the blundering entrance of the loud guy the shadowy figure had been able to slip away in the confusion.

When the lights had gone out the figure's nostrils flared as it took in the scents around it, the dark was no strange thing to this individual. As the others fought the King Rat the figure had continued to hide. But now it knew what to do.

The figure jumped from it's shadowy hiding place into the circle of light joining the battle though the light still wasn't good enough to make out much of the whirling humanoid.

The figure drew back it's longbow and launched it's stone-headed arrow right at the small crown above the particularly giant rat's head with lighting like speed.

"Aw crap aw cra- bweh!- oof.." Spirals danced in her eyes as Merle wobbled back to her feet, leaning heavily on her staff. "Guu~ Someone stop the ride, I wanna geddoff please.."

"Oh gosh that's so much better..!" Merle had sagged back down to the ground in a crouch, staff across her knees, before the spell kicked in and she felt her sense of balance return. That stupid rat weighed a ton. "Time for something a little different!"

This would halve the damage of light attacks such as those dealt by the Giant Rat minions, but could do nothing against sizable sudden whammies like the Rat King could apparently dish out. Merle hopped in place as the ward took effect, to last for the next two rounds, doing a girlish sort of cheer and dancing in place. She'd been meaning to find someone to teach her the actual Cheer skill - then she could do actual Status Buff cheering! And wouldn't that be so nice?

"C'mon guys, he's not so tough! Heheh!"

 

[Fury Is Me.]

Finny couldn't move out of the way in time before the enormous rat landed on him, hurting him but, since Fantasia makes no sense, none of his bones were broken. "Damn! That hurt!" He kicked up off the ground and back onto his feet. "alrght, you overgrown furball! Time to die!"

Finny made another leap for the rat's glowing red eyes. "Maybe those little rubies are worth something!"

 

[One Seven One]

As everyone else were attack Freeze was waiting for his turn while watching the newcomers attacks and reactions. "Heh heh heh" "This is certainly an interesting group, this whole adventure certainly won't be boring." Freeze thought with a small smile spreading across his face.

Freeze sent a hail of ice shards towards the King Giant Rat.

 

[Lambi]

The Giant King Rat's mouth froze when Misa's Freeze hit it, making it unable to open it and lose 31 HP. Frost-steam came out of it's nostrils because of the difference in heat and cold. The six shots from Jackrum each hit for around 50 - 90 in damage, and the flicked cigar made it catch on fire, especially because of Frostbite. It squealed as the fire hurt it even more, doing continuous damage and not looking like it was getting put out. The arrow from the shadowed figure hit the crown, but nothing happened, since it was just the crown, and not the rat king itself. Finny managed to gouge out it's eyes this time, with rather icky results, since the eyes sort of exploded with eye goo splattered everywhere. Gouging out it's eyes made it lose 204 HP for each eye. The ice shards from Freeze caused, in total, 43 damage.

King Giant Rat's HP flashed for a third time over it's head.

King Giant Rat
HP: 1167/3000

The first number continued to decrease, however, because of the fire damage it was taking, decreasing by about 5-7 damage per second.

The King Giant Rat, looking pretty beat by now, still stood on it's feet. The 5 Giant Rats around it again attacked the adventurers, tackling them and gnawing at their feet. The King Giant Rat itself was blind and couldn't bite, so it had little to do, but it's hearing was excellent, so it was able to locate some of them. The loudest seemed to be either Xandus, Jackrum or Finny, and it selected it's victim, Finny. It walked over to him and slammed it's head against him, then went back to the front of the hole, somehow.

Misa sighed.
Do bosses ever go down?
She decided against bringing up her combat menu again because she knew exactly what she wanted to do. Ignoring the small rats around her, she jumped to where the King Giant Rat was and then jumped onto its paw. Shrieking, she cracked her whip at its abdomen before running back to where she was.

 

[Fury Is Me.]

Finny grabbed the area where the rat had slammed into him, in pain. He let out a grunt and slowly picked himself back up. "Hoo... That knocked the wind out of me! At least you can still put up a fight without your eyes, rodent! Wouldn've been boring other wise!"

Finny quickly opened up his infinite storage side pocket/fanny pack, because every adventurer has one of those, it's common knowledge, and pulled out one of his throwing knifes and threw it, aiming between the King Giant Rat's eyes.

"Misa and Finnigan have the right idea!" Freeze thought to himself while avoiding a small puddle of the king rat's eye remains.
"Good job taking out its eyes Finnigan!" Freeze shouted over the sounds of the Rat King's squeels of pain.
"Nice work freezing its mouth shut Misa!" He added

[Fishtie]

The mysterious figure was surprised by it's ineffective attack. The mysterious figure had long ago been taught that crowns held a great deal of power. Wouldn't attacking such a power destroy it?

Still keeping near the shadows the figure fit another arrow to it's bow and fired another shot.

Skullivan was knocked over by another rat which dove at him, unsurprisingly catching fire again and skittering away. He took up his pan and realized the extent of damage to the monstrous Rat King; it had no eyes or mouth. Thusfar they had mortally wounded it. Skullivan thought of the best tactial aid he could make by attacking.

Jackrum bared his teeth as he saw a Giant rat come towards him. Counter activated and brought the sword down on the rat, cutting it in two. It wasn't the rat he wanted, but he would live. The rats on the other hand...

He watched as an arrow hit the King's Crown. "Dammit! Don't aim for the crown! Aim fer the damn rat itself! The crown's just symbolic! Screw it, it's useless!" He cursed. He wanted that damn arm. The arm meant arteries. Arteries meant blood. Blood meant death, and death (the rat's, anyway) meant victory.

Jackrum cut down towards the arm at a normal speed, easily countered.

The sword rocketed downwards, the change in speed making it far more difficult to avoid than if he had merely started at superspeed. Jackrum also prepared one more skill on the skill map.
