"All serial killers tend to eat, sleep, drink and wear clothes. Therefore these shall all be prohibited."

Cause and Effect people, c'mon it's not hard.

Violent People like Violent Video Games.
Violent Video Games do not make Violent People.

I wonder what would be the punishment for selling or buying videogames if the law got passed. I don't see how they could give you jail time for that even tho most other illegal contraband is given jail time for the offense.

I doubt it would seriously passed as a law, it may even be a false rumour.

It would be interesting if it was enforced, not only would there be a huge public outcry at its inconstancy, being illegal to play COD5 but legal to watch SAW V, it would also be impossible to enforce. Consoles can be hidden, and games could be smuggled in from Danemark, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and France. Ultimately the whole idea is laughable.

This is hilarious.
Absolutely hilarious.

German government is so uptight about showing a swastika because, appanrently, they're afraid that people will be reminded of Nazi Germany or something.
Fair enough. It was a bad time.

Then they go and start banning things left and right. Just what do they think they're going to be compared to, exactly?
Heh, very good point. Either way this really is madness. The German market was quite a large one, so to do something like this would just hurt them in the long run, and they must know this. It could also hurt the outlook of certain European releases in the future, even though it is still the largest market in the gaming world.

I suppose this will be a blessing for the German mail-services.

What German gamers have to do is dress up as hippies, pick a few flowers, go as one giant mob to the seat of the German parliament and stomp on those flowers while yelling "we want violent videogames!".

That might work.

How are they going to go about getting rid of all the games already owned?

Massive video game burning, but that's like...

They'll never go through with it. The backlash would put the current German government out of power and send shockwaves through the country politically speaking, since no-one is going to support it in the public. Plus, it'll be too great a loss of revenue for the country's gaming industry, the government would have to be idiots to do that in this economic climate. There's no way they can do it without commiting social and political suicide.
I see your point but don't you think it's a teensy bit extreme to say that the government will go out of power? Gaming doesn't hold that much influence anywhere. Sure there'll be a backlash and people wont like it but I don't think we'll see the crash of German government any time soon related to gaming.

So people in Germany wont like this, if this law ever gets passed - which I severely doubt it will - I think people are right saying it wont stop gaming in Germany, it may even make it 'cooler' in the sense that it's forbidden, in the same way that alchohol is attractive to teenagers because it's forbidden, obviously it's fun but the main factor in it is the rebellion, which is why, in my experiance at least there isn't as much problem with adults drinking. Anyway, I digress; what I want to say is that I think a sort of black market will evolve to counter the law and the best method is for better ratings and control on how games are distributed and portrayed.

ALL RIGHT MAGGOTS! TIME TO INVADE GERMANY AND LIBERATE THEM!

On a more serious and less idiotic note i pray that this doesn't go through, games are as much an art and media form as everything else.

As I have read in a webcomic, another topic, and learned in a statistics class, correlation does not imply causation.

Yes, because no violence ever occurred in Germany or around the world before video games came around right? Yup, no serial killers, rapists, or anything of that sort happened before video games were created. And I think we all remember how Hitler's favorite game was GTA don't we? Are they really serious though? I'm really curious to see what will happen if the ban goes through, I'll especially laugh if crime rates happen to go up immediately afterwards.

Well, they could charge under Conspiracy to Commit Murder (or whatever the German equivalent is), but probably with a lesser jail time. I really don't agree, but I can see the "logic" that I'm nearly certain they'd use given the facts they've presented.

Exactly. How stupid can these people be?

But then again, this isn't the first time I was glad I don't live in Germany.

Well I doubt that this goes through. It's like the paintball idea, within a week the public humiliated them to the degree that they quietly backed out.

If it does however, heeeeelllllloooo Amazon!
