Geez they have to step by step reboot? I mean they have the black character joined in last and she (and the original) did had a science degee of some kind.
Watch her stand up and you'll see why she's not playing a scientist:maninahat said:Also, what's with the black character being the one with the "street smarts"? Is this still the 80s?
Yes, and my ears have just stopped bleeding from the brain damage.Hoplon said:Not that bad? i mean, have you seen the gods of Egypt trailer?
I don't know, I'd say this is but a ghost of the original.manic_depressive13 said:Uh, it looks fine? I think they captured the spirit (hurr) of the original well. Ghostbusters #1 wasn't even good...
Because they need to revitalise it for the new generation. That's why we need a techno version of the theme and referential humour.maninahat said:It is a bad trailer. If those are the best jokes in the movie, it's going to suck. I blame the trailer more than the movie though - why are we doing this EPIC ACTION trailer routine (for the 4000th time) when this is a quirky comedy about shooting ghosts with lazers?
Train wreck factor?Zhukov said:I can't see why anyone would want to watch it.
Yeah, after seeing the like:dislike ratio on the trailer for the new film, I should've known better than to even bother talking about this on the internet.Im Lang said:You're talking to people who are following an internet outrage script. For reasons of ideology, politics, or nerdishness they already hate this movie. This is just about sharing and echoing that hate, nothing more. When people say "Circle jerk" or "Echo chamber", this is what they mean. A totally uncritical sharing of the same preconceived notion, with some token "evidence" that acts more like a ritual fetish. I'd hate to be the guy who wipes down the loads.

So, the fact that the original was a classic screwball comedy, the fact that they've seen it a dozen time and only seen a trailer for this... none of that matters.
What's just as uncritical is people broadly criticizing anyone who complains about the trailer because "sexism" and "fanboyism" and any other ism that might detract from the reality that, preconceived notions notwithstanding, many people genuinely think that this trailer is very bad.Im Lang said:You're talking to people who are following an internet outrage script. I know right? It's almost as if people taking something you love and then making it painfully mediocre makes people upset.Im Lang said:You have to love this predictable thread, full of pure internet outrage. "OH MY GOD THIS TRAILER IS THE WORST THING SINCE HITLER OMG OMG I CAN'T EVEN."
I can. Take some deep breaths and grow up.
Im Lang said:Funny, if you had done that then I'd think your comment would be a little more even handed, but I guess people really like to make sweeping generalizations.axlryder said:You know that I can actually read the rest of this thread, and your posts right?Im Lang said:What's just as uncritical is people broadly criticizing anyone who complains about the trailer because "sexism" and "fanboyism" and any other ism that might detract from the reality that, preconceived notions notwithstanding, many people genuinely think that this trailer is very bad.shrekfan246 said:You're talking to people who are following an internet outrage script. I think, like most things with this movie, they were just trying to sort of re-create the circumstances of the original.maninahat said:Also, what's with the black character being the one with the "street smarts"? Is this still the 80s?

How do you think the movie will be? Better than the trailer? Did you think the trailer was bad or just below average? What did you like about it? etc.
Also, you have to acknowledge that when a trailer is bad it isn't extremely often that a movie is vastly better, and thus people operate under the assumption that editors don't actively try to sabotage their own films with the trailer, and can thus ascertain the general quality of the film from the trailer unless they have reason to believe otherwise. This is not a claim of clairvoyance, it's just an operating condition for these sorts of conversations. It's not unique to ghostbusters, people often say "that's gonna be terrible" after seeing trailers, you're just looking for it right now. Most people are open to the idea of being wrong about a film from the trailer, even ones they say will be bad. I said Scott Pilgrim was going to be shit once upon a time and I loved it, but that is literally the only major exception I can think of.
I don't even have the energy to make my own comment about just how bad this is so i'll just quote yours at it pretty much sums up my feelings!Neverhoodian said:To preface what I'm about to say, I'm not familiar with the franchise at all, aside from picking up a few references over the years via pop culture osmosis.
If their goal was to hook folks like me, then it didn't work based on my reaction...or more accurately, LACK of reaction. It looks like your typical dumb, lowest common denominator, creatively bankrupt "comedy" that I've come to expect from Hollywood. Frankly, I can't muster the energy to even get upset about it, much less excited.
If however their goal was to bank on nostalgia...well, they've failed even more spectacularly if all the dislikes and negative comments are any indication.
