Geez they have to step by step reboot? I mean they have the black character joined in last and she (and the original) did had a science degee of some kind.

Also, what's with the black character being the one with the "street smarts"? Is this still the 80s?
Watch her stand up and you'll see why she's not playing a scientist:

Not that bad? i mean, have you seen the gods of Egypt trailer?
Yes, and my ears have just stopped bleeding from the brain damage.

Uh, it looks fine? I think they captured the spirit (hurr) of the original well. Ghostbusters #1 wasn't even good...
I don't know, I'd say this is but a ghost of the original.

...what? Even my username's a pun. I had to get in on it.

It is a bad trailer. If those are the best jokes in the movie, it's going to suck. I blame the trailer more than the movie though - why are we doing this EPIC ACTION trailer routine (for the 4000th time) when this is a quirky comedy about shooting ghosts with lazers?
Because they need to revitalise it for the new generation. That's why we need a techno version of the theme and referential humour.

Have you guys seen the trailer for the original film?

As somebody who's never actually seen Ghostbusters (or at least, more than the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man scenes), the trailer for that was pretty... eh... too. The only thing that I found to be actively worse about this new trailer was "sassy black sidekick", which, considering Ernie Hudson didn't even get credited in the trailer for the first film, is still a step up in terms of direct comparisons.

I like how the best marketing angle these sites promoting the film can go with is accusing everyone who thinks the trailer looks bad of sexism. Apparently with every ticket purchase you get one free feminism.

What bothers me about this trailer is that there's a lot of wasted potential here.

The special effects actually look pretty good.

Holtzmann's character struck a chord with me. It's not that her character was good, she came off as goofy and pandering, but if you squint and turn your head you can almost see a fun character in there. Unfortunately, what could have made her good (perverse, shocking antics with minimal dialogue), appears to have be neutered in favor of silly behavior thinly veiling insecurity (as evinced by the hat scene). She also doesn't have that effortless coolness required to really pull off the over-the-top badass schtick. What's more, the pg/pg-13 rating really doesn't lend itself well to fully realizing that character type.

I really like the black actress' face and body type. Like Ron Pearlman or Benedict Cumberbatch, she has a captivating look to her. She also would have been the PERFECT person to write AGAINST type. Not even as a brainy character specifically, just as not a stereotype. As it stands, the writing actively detracts from her natural appeal.

The main character is inoffensive and probably could have been just fine in the hands of some better suited writers. I think Wiig is affable enough to pull off a Murray type character, but I sort of wish she had a little bit more of that deadpan charm.

I really don't like Mccarthy though. She's just Chris Farley with less impressive physical comedy.

Bad acting, bad humor, bad CGI, just bad, they took a classic and turned it into a slapstick comedy for kids and people who will simply support it because wimmins. It's a parody without any respect for the source material, I'd rather have a simple rule 63 movie than this garbage.

The only thing that is more rediculous than this eldritch abomination is the claim that it is somehow racist, I highly doubt that Feig put a gun to her head and told her to act like that, she consented to it, and seeing the video above, she is absolutely in her character. People have to finally realize that most stereotypes have a strong basis in reality, and that this movie is a lot of bad things for sure, but racist is not one of them.

You're talking to people who are following an internet outrage script. For reasons of ideology, politics, or nerdishness they already hate this movie. This is just about sharing and echoing that hate, nothing more. When people say "Circle jerk" or "Echo chamber", this is what they mean. A totally uncritical sharing of the same preconceived notion, with some token "evidence" that acts more like a ritual fetish. I'd hate to be the guy who wipes down the loads.

So, the fact that the original was a classic screwball comedy, the fact that they've seen it a dozen time and only seen a trailer for this... none of that matters.
Yeah, after seeing the like:dislike ratio on the trailer for the new film, I should've known better than to even bother talking about this on the internet.

Even the people who aren't so blinded by their hatred for "feminism" that they went off the rails at the thought of Ghostbusters having a female cast are getting their knee-jerk on because "BUT MY CHILDHOOD".

What's just as uncritical is people broadly criticizing anyone who complains about the trailer because "sexism" and "fanboyism" and any other ism that might detract from the reality that, preconceived notions notwithstanding, many people genuinely think that this trailer is very bad.

You have to love this predictable thread, full of pure internet outrage. "OH MY GOD THIS TRAILER IS THE WORST THING SINCE HITLER OMG OMG I CAN'T EVEN."

I can. Take some deep breaths and grow up.
I know right? It's almost as if people taking something you love and then making it painfully mediocre makes people upset.

Snark aside, trailer is boring and I probably won't watch the film until it's on dvd if at all. Could have been so much worse, could have been so much better.

You know that I can actually read the rest of this thread, and your posts right?
Funny, if you had done that then I'd think your comment would be a little more even handed, but I guess people really like to make sweeping generalizations.

I want to be excited for this film, as the special effects look pretty good and I dig the sassy black lady (then again, I seem to have a liking for those)... but I dunno, I guess something just feels... off. I really hope this trailer isn't what the movie's gonna be like, but...

I think, like most things with this movie, they were just trying to sort of re-create the circumstances of the original.

Technically, New York City is 25% black so if they were going to get a random hire from the city itself, it's not exactly long odds that they'd be black. If they were going for a microcosm of New York though, at least one of them should be hispanic as well though. New York City is 27% hispanic.

So, I think the trailer is meh but it wasn't the trainwreck I expected. Just going to have to wait til more trailers and/or the full release to see how it turns out. I think there's potential, but I also admit that I'm likely to be harsher due to my fondness for the original. I like that they all seem to have customized proton-packs and gear, I like the weird, blonde punky girl, and I'm man enough to admit that the "The power of Patty compels you!" bit made me chuckle. So we'll just have to see :D

The amount of hilariously overdramatic people online is kind of amusing though. I haven't seen people so upset at the reboot of a franchise they liked since DMC: Devil May Cry (which actually turned out to be quite a good game, despite everyone's predictions, I'll point out). So yeah, everyone is totally entitled to their opinion, but the freakout is at an 11, and we need it toned down to maybe a 7 or an 8. At least until the movie comes out and can be judged fairly.

I still wish this would have been an adaptation of Xtreme Ghostbusters though. Xtreme Ghostbusters was pretty fun :D

Keep saying that like it's true, maybe someone other than you will buy it!
Well this has been an excellent conversation. Let's move off from this an onto something else.

How do you think the movie will be? Better than the trailer? Did you think the trailer was bad or just below average? What did you like about it? etc.

Also, you have to acknowledge that when a trailer is bad it isn't extremely often that a movie is vastly better, and thus people operate under the assumption that editors don't actively try to sabotage their own films with the trailer, and can thus ascertain the general quality of the film from the trailer unless they have reason to believe otherwise. This is not a claim of clairvoyance, it's just an operating condition for these sorts of conversations. It's not unique to ghostbusters, people often say "that's gonna be terrible" after seeing trailers, you're just looking for it right now. Most people are open to the idea of being wrong about a film from the trailer, even ones they say will be bad. I said Scott Pilgrim was going to be shit once upon a time and I loved it, but that is literally the only major exception I can think of.

To preface what I'm about to say, I'm not familiar with the franchise at all, aside from picking up a few references over the years via pop culture osmosis.

If their goal was to hook folks like me, then it didn't work based on my reaction...or more accurately, LACK of reaction. It looks like your typical dumb, lowest common denominator, creatively bankrupt "comedy" that I've come to expect from Hollywood. Frankly, I can't muster the energy to even get upset about it, much less excited.

If however their goal was to bank on nostalgia...well, they've failed even more spectacularly if all the dislikes and negative comments are any indication.
I don't even have the energy to make my own comment about just how bad this is so i'll just quote yours at it pretty much sums up my feelings!
