Yeah your computer will be loading that for the next 5 minutes. also C&C is welcome

EDIT!
Also, this is kinda my hobby so totally bookmarking this! And if anyone needs any comments and criticism just PM me or or quote me. I'd always take time out to lend a hand in painting. I may not be the best, but I don't think I'm the worst either.
Took about 10 seconds actually ;). Thanks for posting, I knew I'd attrect a few people if I kept at at. I really like the jetbike. Do you have any more pictures of it with the back in focus? I'm not too familiar with current models, what is that wierd Khorne robot thing, the 2nd, 3rd & 4th pictures? Who is the red guy with the yellow sword, is that a Halo mini? Finally, where did you get that gigantic marine from?
Alright. First off Thank you for the compliment and great thread idea!
1. Sadly no. He broke a while back and I just haven't gotten the time to re-superglue him back. I'll try to do it ASAP
2. Ah, I didn't think anyone would get it. That is from a game called Warmachine. The reason the Khorne Zerker is up there is due to a special rule that allows that warjack (the robot) to slice off the arms of another robot on a crit. hit. So I thought it would be funny if the Zerker leap off to carve the enemy to bits
3. Indeed. From Haloclix or something like that. I made him to try a robe effect on a mini out of putty. He's supposed to be jedi Mater Chief XD That yellow blade was tough to melt just right.
4. Welllllll. He's Battle Brother Artemis and can be found here http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1110218&_requestid=82738 NOTE I'm not promoting GW products just answering the question. Anyway. He was a rather fun paint job. The don't make the helmet anymore, but I got him and 3 helmets as a christmas present.

=D hope that helps

It does, thanks. The Robot looks cool, I'll have to look into "Warmachine"
So they have a bunch of large models for a game called "Inquisitor". Kinda expensive, but I suppose they are a lot bigger and pretty impressive.

Crew look kinda crappy. Bit of a rush job, my 1st editon army was orks so I got really bored of painting ork flesh tones. The more observant among you may notice that the steering column doesn't actually reach down far enough. Welcome to early GW models, I had to bend the front axles to get the front wings to align properly as well...and I've just noticed I forgot to highlight the wheels. Poop.

Also a question for anyone...I've forgotten a lot of the techniques I used to use, a few were non standard. One was how to do leather/brown. I'm pretty sure I started with a base of snakebite leather and then gave it a wash with a darker rich tanned leather brown, but I can't for the life of me remember what. It definitely wasn't brown ink. Here's a picture of one model I have with the basecoat and wash, just in case anyone can work it out.

All you need to do to paint like me is paint about 1500 miniatures. It's more about experience than artistic talent. That's why I think of painting minis as a craft rather than an art form. Now sculpting, that's an art.

It looks like snakebite leather with a chestnut or flesh wash, but I don't use GW paints (Vallejo FTW) so I may be wrong. I also avoid washes as a general rule, though Devlan Mud is a very useful wash if you must.

They're just gray plastic or pewter (a soft, silver grey metal) before you paint them.

If you really want to have your mind blown, try these sites:

Not painted anything for a long time, but here's some of my old Minis.

Apologies for my shite photography skills, the ancient camera doesn't help either...

Definitely not GW chestnut, that's closer to orange and I've never had a flesh coloured wash. I'm beginning to think it was something I used to mix up myself. What colours make brown...I'm starting to think yellow, red and blue...bad moon yellow, moody blue and red of some sort...is that plausible?

Thanks for the links

Thanks for posting, nice work. I find the guard stuff especially interesting as they look a lot different to what they did in my day, a lot better too so I'm aquiring a few guard models to paint as I didn't have any when I was a kid. I should be expecting a delivery of a few new models soon, steel legion, regimental advisors, sororitas etc, all stuff that didn't exist when I used to paint. Should be fun doing some new models. I have a bunch of orks but I'm bored of painting them.

Codex question to anyone who knows...Dark Angels terminator librarians...what colour? Plus do Dark Angels have sternguard veterans and do they still have all green armour or do they have different colour helmets like all the other chapters?

Thanks, they aint up to the standard of your minis, but they would look better if I could get a decent pic of them. I'll try and get some better ones up at some point.

And I agree, Guard are my favorite army. The newer models are so very versatile when it comes to conversions (all 3 of those IG I took pics of are converted in some way) Plus forge world do a great line in accessories and more specialist regiments. I'd love to get back into 40K, but I think it would be damaging to both my bank account and my social life, so for the moment I just have to limit myself to window shopping.

I'd love to convert and paint my own individual regiment at some point. Modeling and painting was what i loved about it, the gaming side didnt hold nearly as much interest for me somehow. Hope you have fun with your new models, Steel Legion look great :D

Don't sell yourself short, I think those a very good, especially the dire avengers and the mordian, the elf's face is very nice too. The only suggestion I would make is to drybrush onto black when doing metallic colours, rather than painting directly on.

I do like the cadians, they look like old school guard but modelled much better. I still miss the old style las rifles though. Steel Legion and Krieg look really cool, but I can't help but get away from the feeling that every regiment except the cadians is just a case of 'find distinctive historical soldiery, add lasgun...tadaaah! New regiment!'

I've only just got back into 40K/warhammer because I find it a comparatively cheap form of entertainment, but then I'm just painting, not collecting an army. Although having said that I'm trying to get hold of some of the vintage models that were around when I was a kid and some of them go for a lot of money.

Anyway, enough rabbiting. My latest project, an old school warlock, is taking longer than expected, so here's a couple of things I painted 15+ year ago...

Frog faced little git, not the best of the old ork models...still prefer him to the new ones, they look stupidly OTT IMO...I've probably said that before haven't I?

I've only just started playing 40k, and I have all my minis assembled, I haven't even so much as primed them yet. I did, however, do something funny with the leftover bits:

Put purity seals all over my personal flash drive.

Well, when you do paint some post the results on here, I'd like to see them.

Not too happy with the crimson highlighting and the gems. Haven't painted many before so I don't really have a technique for them. Have looked one up and I'll try it next eldar I paint. Sword kinda crappy too, shoulda done it black. GW don't seem to have changed their warlock models much. In fact I have one I painted almost 18 years ago that they still have on sale now. I did a much better job on that one too.

I am amazed by some of the painting skills of the dudes here, mine look so bad in comparison... I picked up a lot of miniatures a couple of years back, a whole set of nids, never actually got around to painting the lot... but in my case they look good but from afar, up close its like... a completely different story XD Shall bookmark and post at a later point :p

My New Years Resolution is to get my Ork, Space Marine, and Tyranid armies completely finished and get the scenery done. Over Spring Break I got my Tyranids done after putting them off for around... 8 YEARS. So it was kind of a long time coming. As for the rest, they're more numerous and will take longer, but many were done and I've done some of them. The landscape shouldn't be too hard.

Anyways...

I'll put pictures of mine when I get back home from college. For now I'll just bookmark this.

Also, your models look great. Is that a real Emperiorator?

Thanks. Imperator? Yes it is, it isn't what I'd call finished by a longshot, it's barely basecoated, I just like showing it off because it's pretty rare, and awesome...come to think of it, here's a pic of it next to the warlord and a reaver.

Shame the great gargant has lost his cock belly gun.

I also have a 1st edition 40k resin ork gobsmasha that I have just discovered is 1 of 30 ever made *smugface*.

...and I'll look forward to seeing your work :)

Heh since this thread inspired me to finish painting at least some of my army, I shall put up some of my work. Bear in mind I'm a complete beginner to all this >.> So it's not all that good of a painter but hey it's good fun.

Still have 16 Genesteallers in the pack...

Thank you very much for posting. I think those look very nice. There is a big difference between painting for the battlefield and painting for display and those look good for the battlefield, if you try and paint your whole army to display standard you'll never get anywhere, that's why I originally got bored and gave up. But if you get a simple coloured army like tyranids and get the right techniques you can paint a lot in a relatively short time and still have them look great on the tabletop, just like yours.

Funnily enough my next project was to be a couple of old plastic genestealers from space hulk, but after someone on this thread said you could sell mini's I looked on e-bay and found some old spacefleet ships for sale. I really liked the old ship designs, so I had to have them, they cost a load, even more than praetorians do, but they are now mine and so the genestealers are on hold and I'm painting some BFG and Spacefleet mini's. They are going to take a bit longer but I do have a couple of models that I got on e-bay that I'm going to post. I was originally going to strip them and paint them myself, but when I saw how nicely they had been painted I just didn't have the heart to ruin all that hard work so I'm going to post them here as a kind of interval until I finish my next decent looking mini's.

I just don't have the patience to paint things this nicely. I like the old designs, it's a shame you can't get them anymore, plus they aren't the right scale, this is about the same size as a light cruiser in BFG. 5p for scale.

L-R Shadowswords, Stormhammers, Land Raiders, Manticores, Whirlwinds, Vindicators. I prefer these manticores to the new ones, but the new Vindicators have a more sensible sized gun for the body of the vehicle.

I like the design of the Eldar, they are very distinctive and original(AFAIK). Only very basic colouring on this one. I have 3 more unpainted that I'm going to try and do a bit better. Got a couple of Banshees and a Warlock I also want to finish.

As I said, I've been picking up a bunch of old mini's on e-bay, so I don't know what I'm going to paint after the BFG and Spacefleet Cobra Destroyers I'm working on now. Got Steel Legion, vintage orks, vintage Terminators, vintage marines, vintage genestealers, vintage spacefleet, BFG, sororitas, vintage chaos warriors, cadians, Kasrkin, v. chaos dwarf, v. eldar, Devastator marine and v. inquisitor to paint. Trouble is I see and buy things way faster than I can paint and then do a rush job because I feel I have to get through them all and then get bored because it looks like too much work. Durrr.

Nice job dude I like how you got the shadowing in.
