Nice Trygon - I like the blue/silver scheme.

My buddy has "christmas nids" - bright red with green. Nothing like being shredded by a bunch of 'nids while he hums Christmas carols.

Nice work, I like it, the Leman Russ looks like it's going to be good.I've got £60 with a Shadowswords name on it very soon.

I'm using a Canon Power shot SX200 IS...don't really know much about camera's, it was about £260 originally but I got it a bit cheaper.

Looks really cool, if there's one army that's been improved since I was playing it's the Tyranids. The very first tyranid models looked ok, but the redesigned Tyranid warriors that they brought out after that looked shit. The little tyranids were OK but the warriors sucked major ass.

Anyway, Time for some variety...I would like to point out that these next 2 models where not painted by me in any way whatsoever, it was some other guy that I don't even know...in fact I don't even know how the pictures got on the camera, I've never seen them before in my life, honest.

Painted sometime in the mid 90's, so I'm told by some guy or other.

Time and movement has cracked the filler between the edges of the face and hair unfortunately and you can't see it here but the join between the hip and thigh on the other side of the swimsuit shows through.

OK, I'll admit to this one, and I do have them all in GN form, as well as the databook and the unfinished gaia (or however you spell it), plus 3 other unfinished non-SD kits. I think I'll probably end up flogging all the kits on ebay, as well as the OMG comics that I totally don't own at all.

PS I'm at my parents house for a visit atm, so I'm photographing my old ork army and various other bits I have in storage, so expect photo's soon.

Awesome stuff, although you probably don't need me to tell you that.

I could never really work out model painting as a career, or even just to earn a bit of cash on the side. The time it takes to paint a model that well never really seemed worth the money you could get for it, even if you could find enough people who would pay top dollar for a really good piece. I know you speed up as you get practiced and learn all the tricks but even so...

OK, ork & a few others image dump...'ere we go! (Did you see what I did there eh? Eh? Did you see that?...Nevermind)

Complete except 1 dreadnaught, 2 vehicles, 5 chaos cultists and a world eater ravagers squad. There are also 2 more boys squads to paint and a couple more nobs, a painboy and a couple of grots but I at least have the models.

The retinue, mostly crap paintjobs

bigmob. The guy at the front is about the only one I consider to be acceptable.

Nazdregs mob. Now these guys are painted quite well. That's a D-cannon for an arm. I decided not to buy a wierdboy for these guys.

Mogflumps mob...I was running out of names, OK. My other well painted mob, these last 2 were about the last things I painted before I got fed up with it all. I decided not to buy a wierdboy for these guys.

Durthungs mob. The other ork I posted was from this mob. I got 2 more to paint but I need to buy a lascasnnon for them, cause they only have a heavy bolter atm. I decided not to buy a wierdboy for these guys.

Skumduffa's mob. Not a bad paintjob, but not good either. The wierdboy also needs 2 minders.

Nazbads mob. Again, not bad but that's about it.

Squigs and grots for the shokk attack guns. Crap paintjob.

Uzbads mob. Barely adequate paintjobs. The buggy posted earlier is theirs, along with another of the same that I have yet to paint.

Uzgutsmob. Front row of boys aren't painted too badly. The Gobsmasha behind them is apparently 1 of 30 ever made.

The second Ghazskull (sp?) model. I think I did OK on this. Makari remains unpainted.

Goff Rockers!!!! Noise marines can fuck off, these guys are the true hardcore metallers!! The middle guy and the guy on the left are painted quite well I think.

Renegade meks, bad painting all round. One of the tinboy mobs is actually runtbots, they were just labelled wrong when I bought them. I can buy 2 more vehicles with these guys. I think I'll have a Baneblade and...something else, I'll decide later.

Exhalted Ork Chaos Champion. Made from a marine on juggernaughts legs and mount, an ork boys head, a chaos champions upper body and left arm, terminator right arm. I'm quite pround of him. He should have 2 more nob followers and 5 chaos cultists.

It's only a fleshwound. Ogre followers of Chaos champ. Already posted their mate. He is better painted than these 2.

A blood slaughterer. Very simple paintjob, but I think it looks nice that way. He should have a squad of world eater with him but I don't have the models

My other warlock...now i look at him I don't think he's painted as well as I remember. The sword works as does the helmet, even if it's got a bit dirty over the years. Haven't done his bag properly either.

Very simply coloured, not much shading or highlight. Have one left that is 1/2 way through painting.

Um...yah...intersting colourscheme you put on your banshees there scum...the hawk is basic although a nice colourscheme and the avatar is crap.

vintage dwarves, crap paintjobs all round

vintage dwarf, a bit dusty simple to paint.

vintage ironbreaker

vintage ironbreaker

vintage longbeard

vintage longbeard

vintage longbeard, shame about the chip on his nose.

This was painted by a childhood friend of mine. He got cancer and eventually died of a brain tumor at 16, I keep this and a couple of Deathwing Termies he painted as a memento.

also: Does anyone know where I can get my hands on Praetorian fluff/army lists/paint guides? It's damned expenive to do, but I feel like building up a small army of the thoroughly spiffing chaps.

Also a question for anyone...I've forgotten a lot of the techniques I used to use, a few were non standard. One was how to do leather/brown. I'm pretty sure I started with a base of snakebite leather and then gave it a wash with a darker rich tanned leather brown, but I can't for the life of me remember what. It definitely wasn't brown ink. Here's a picture of one model I have with the basecoat and wash, just in case anyone can work it out.
Maybe its a Bubonic Brown mix? I used it and Scorched Brown to get the right skin tone for my Ethereal.

Btw, I must thank the OP for this, I've just started playing 40K and have also just begun painting, so I'll probably steal some of these ideas! ^^

I just need to remember bringing my camera to my friend where I paint my dear Tau army...

No, I've remembered what it was. Badmoon yellow, moody blue and go fasta red. The latter 2 are no longer in production but I'm sure I can improvise.

You're welcome, just make sure you post pics of your work :)

Wow, those are some neat vintage dwarves! Also, I really liked the old school chaos juggernaut.
Yeah, the new saxon/viking themed ones are nice, but in general I prefer vintage models, they were far more individual and there was a much better range of troops. Now GW seems to concentrate on plastic identikit models for the bulk of the armies and then very expensive and (IMO) over the top character models. I've been picking up quite a few old chaos warriors from back in my day and they have much more character and individuality. If you ever look in any of the old citadel catalogues you'll see what I mean.
I also picked up a couple of old dwarves but when I got them I realised that I already had them both (last and 3rd from last) and since I don't really want them for an army, just to paint, I'm going to have to get rid of them.
I have to say though, the new Jugger models do look impressive, the one with the Khorneate chaos lord on is fantastic.

I'll try to post some of my, and my boyfriends models, but given the only camera we have acces to, is a webcam and genuine shite, it may take a while :X

Also, things get a lot cheaper, if you have a deal with your local gw store, that you'll paint their showcase armies for them, and get them when they need the space for something else - that's how my boyfriend got about half of his considerable (4k points Grey Knights/I.G. / 11000 points high elves) armies.

Please do, the more the merrier, everyone is encouraged to post :) TBH I thought there would be a lot more posters by now considering the number of 40K nuts on the board, I've seen some discussions on the subject go on for 10-15 pages.

I've found e-bay can be very good for getting models on the cheap. If you want ones that are currently in production you can get some real good deals and even some OOP stuff if you're lucky. I've been buying some old models that I didn't get or sold off when I was a kid. Some I get for next to nothing, others I have to pay a sickening amount for.

Nice work, thanks for keeping up with the thread, it's nice to have more regular posters, means I can stop making up reasons to BUMP the thread and just post when I want.

I have to admit that, being an old 1st ed player, I'm not exactly sold on the Tau. They are nice models to be sure and I can see why GW did it from a business POV to bring in the manga/classic sci fi mecha lovers, but I don't actually include them in 'my 40K'. GW has thrown in so many recognisable themes that I feel it get's to a point of overload.
Same goes for necrons, I can include them as remnants of the 'iron men' or the old chaos androids (anyone else remember them? Suspiciously similar to necrons) but again in 'my 40K' necrons/C'tan don't exist. That said, I have to admit that 'souls trapped in undying metal bodies by godlike extradimensional beings' is a more original backstory than 'mankinds robot slaves turn on their creators'.
As for the dark eldar...I'm afraid a 'Lolwut?' is all they're getting

and another thing...they need more individually modelled metal models, too much identikit plastic... and why has everything gone even more cartoonishly OTT, and the orks, my god what have they done to them and why don't they make moody blue anymore and why can't they re cast old models and rant, rave, gibber etc etc etc

In all fairness, Tau have a fairly unique playstyle. Dark Eldar play just like normal Eldar. But darker. Necrons play similar to Marines. March forward - fire a ludicrous amount of shots, absorb a silly amount of fire, repeat. It's refreshing to have a newer playstyle introduced where it doesn't involve loading all of your guys in transports and hoping they make it across the board.

At least the Tau have a back story that doesn't involve ancient gods/chaos. They just have UN ambassadors in the form of Ethereals.

I agree with the snippet about more individual looking models...but they are already expensive enough. I don't care to fork out another 20-30 bucks per kit just for variety. That's what green-stuff is for.
