That seems more a one liner than a sincere question, but mostly because you don't need to care about your relationship with people over the internet, its also easier to state what's on your mind or what you wish to say normally due to anonymity and if you're looking to discuss something meaningful its often the best method of getting a wider range of opinions. In this case since many a member on the escapist are relatively intelligent you're also likely to get a better answer than capitals and exclamation marks too, which frustrate me oh-so much.

I think we might be operating under two different descriptions of 'meaningful'. Most of the topics here are really stupid and/or pretentious (like this one). And that's fine. I don't expect debates about Plato's Republic on a gaming website.
The real problem is that most people on the forum are simply too young. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but after reading these post I keep imagining 18-year old introverted nerds sitting in their rooms, listening to Metal and being smug about how they're much more clever than those retarded fratboys and preps or whatever.
In my opinion, people don't come here for debates or discussions, they just want to voice their opinions, which they can't do anywhere else. Me? I get off of correcting people.

And yes I'm thoroughly impressed by the escapists maturity. Theres still the occassional bit of idiocy but thats unavoidable and easy enough to put up with. The mods seem to do a good job at keeping people in line too.

I appreciate the Escapist more and more each time I look at arguments on youtube or modern warfare 2.

The Escapist is the second most decent games related forum on the internet I found so far. The first one is Forum Actionum, but that's in Polish, which kinda sucks for the rest of you guys because it's really cool.

In all seriousness, the OP is right, this place is place where the arguments are arguments and not insult matches. I'm a forum whore (this is what, the 8th forum I've ever joined?), and a lot of the time, scratch that, ANYTIME you have something that can start an argument, might have an argument, or turn into what I said up there to parody what would normally be said in these kinds of situations.

I love this place. Hardly anyone talks like an idiot (using the letter 'u' as the word 'you', '2' as 'too, to', etc.), and most people can carry on an intelligent conversation without too much strain. That's pretty rare on the interbutts.

gamefaqs isn't bad once you get into the "community".

i spent around 6-8 months on the fallout 3 board and we got some running jokes going, some conversation going...

too bad the moderators are all dicks.

i think we'd be just as awful as 4chan without mods to constantly hit us in the back of our heads and tell us to stop doing that.

Well, I do love this place. Believe me though, it's not the most intelligent place on the internet, but it's good enough and it's a good sight more fun than most of those other "intelligent" places, filled with elitist scum who do nothing but demean other people. Thankfully, we have little of that, although it does exist.

Altogether, I think we're the best gaming forum there is at the moment, if not the best forum. Of all my time on the internet, this is my favourite place.

As for retarded discussions, a fellow on Gamefaqs who attempted to scientifically prove (his words) that I was gay for liking Nintendo products. The worst part was, he was totally sincere.

I do feel though, with more intelligence more elitism would flourish. We have a good mix of well intentioned people, many of whom (myself included) will accept the fact they are wrong, and won't get punished for it.

It's always interesting to see people both complaining about elitism and retards at the same time, shows large landscape that the escapist covers. I'd like to see better videos though I will admit, the content just doesn't seem as good anymore, but the forums are great. Good enough for me to stay here for this long, good enough that i'm considering becoming a publisher. I wish their was a series that I really enjoyed here though, just to push me over the edge
