Remakes are genuinely made because the company wants to make the money, and the fanbase wants it.

It gives the fanbase what they want (Half will like the game, the other half will ***** about how the original was better... while playing the remake...), it makes money for the company.

And it doesnt require a single new thought. Copy, paste, update. Its usually harder then that, but, you get the point. They dont have to worry about what weapons, designs, levels, mechanics, story, etc. they will have to use, its already all there.

I dont like Activision, but I wouldnt scold them for doing something people have wanted them to.
I don't know how it could get any simpler than that. Hell, Chrono Trigger was only re-released on the PS1 in the NTSC region through pure rabid fanbase demand. When the fans in the NTSC region, primarily America, learned they weren't going to be getting the PS1 re-release with all the extras and the new anime cutscenes, you'd think Squaresoft had run over a little kid's dog and then kicked them when they were crying about it.

Despite the fact that Squaresoft put about zero effort into actually converting the game, and just changed around the code that made it possible to work on a disc instead of a cart, which resulted in a pretty piss-poor port of the game, it STILL sold like nobody's business. The re-re-release on the DS about 2 years ago sold even MORE copies, and al it had going for it was the PS1 port, with a new Pokemon style monster rancher battle environment ripoff that nobody probably even played.

If a game is mega-popular and sells millions of copies, then a re-release about 7-10 years down the line is a no-brainer for most studios these days.

How is there only a Wii and DS version being made. I mean the Wii with it's limited power and graphics will not do it justice and any game like this is always a flop on the DS. How about making a version for the real console and PC...? If they were really after a quick buck you would have thought it would be coming out on all platforms.

Shame they're using the wrong Bond though.

I mean, to have GoldenEye properly, you need a true Pimp, and who's more true pimp than fucking Pierce Brosnan? come on, if I were to play a 007 game, I'd like to play as a british super spy, not as a life sized Ken doll

I believe it had something to do with Nintendo obstructing the original Xbox Live Arcade version due to a discrepancy in rights and Rare. Considering the online of the 360, PC, and PS3 as well, the multiplayer feature alone would garner a pretty large chunk of buyers. The special edition Wii (or was it just a controller?) already shows that the remake is most certainly being primed for hitting the nostalgic nerve to build hype of questionable worth based on the end product.

I never had the opportunity to really play Goldeneye when I was young, but even the thought of playing Daniel Craig in a remake annoys me at the thought of him trying to compete with Bronson. I have been hoping that they would ditch Craig for everything Bond and just find somebody else...

We ALL have something against Activision management. And for good reason.

Why not release a game for the two most popular systems in the world? Especially the best selling game system ever?

I suppose I should've said the two most popular current-gen systems, then. :p

An evil corporation doing something for money?

Something that will probably not come out very well. As I assume its gonna get swept underfoot like all those other "hardcore" wii titles.

but WHY do a remake? I mean, it's the WII. Wii's can't do shooters.
Maybe they wanted to stay true to Nintendo since the original was on the N64? But you're right.
I was really hoping for Goldeneye to make it to the current gen consoles (rumors online?) because I tried going back to play it but struggled with the N64 controls and the FPS gameplay...not a great fit (esp after moving on to dual analogs)
sooo...coming to this gen? yay
wait it's for the Wii...boo, that just makes the control issue worse :p

If it was motivated by money, Activision would surely release the game multiplatform day one, not make it exclusive to the Wii and DS.

Id believe that if they ported it to XBLA unchanged. Would it sell? Hell yeah. But no. I want my achievements darn it! (And not having to use the N64 controller)
