Dear God... Why?

I just... A piece of me died when I saw this.

I had heard rumors.

I had heard speculation...

But part of me had held out hope that somehow, MAYBE they wouldnt shit all over the greatist FPS ever made (with the possible exception of Perfect Dark... And even THAT had the Complex Level in it!), so much for hope, right?

The part that pisses me off the most is not so much they are "remaking" this gem of a game, but rather they're shitting all over Brosnan and the original story. They've "updateded the story to reflect more of Craig's Bond's storyline," or someothersuchbullshitlikethat. Basically, they said since using Trevelian's Cossak lienage would make him somewhere around 60-80 years old, they had to change it.

And of course, they've put in the obligatory desert arms level that EVERY modern-times FPS has to have (what with ALL terrorists living in a friggin' DESERT).

If it were a simple REMAKE (like what Sqeenix needs to do with FFVII), then I'd be FINE. Updated graphics? HELLS YES! Weather system? Why the FUCK NOT? Destructable environments? I'm FIRST ONE IN LINE! But for chrissake, LEAVE the GAMEPLAY/STORY mecahnics the FUCK ALONE!

This is just wrong. I dont understand at all WHY they are going to take a perfectly good thing and BREAK it.

Now I feel I must break out the old N64 and start up 007 mode, set everything to 100%, and go thourgh and pwn it again... and again... and a FRIGGING GAIN!

Unfortunatly, even with all of my bitching and moaning, if it's decent (doubtful), I may (read: WILL) actually go out and BUY a motherfucking Wii to play this game. A dream of my brother and I was to be able to play on SEPERATE TVs (after you play it so long sans radar, screen watching makes ganking WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to easy WITH radar), in seperate rooms to make it more of a challange (one thing we LOVE about Xbox/360).

I am NOT expecting good things.

Then again, I never stopped believing that Duke Nukem Ifev... FORever... sorry, was actually CANCELLED...

Highly relevant.

But the question is, will their the Wii or DS game be any good at all? Either way Activision will make a killing, but will they be able to do this revival again? Not if they screw this up.

It's called lack of ideas.
It shows stagnation in the creativity department. Which often means a golden plated tu*d incoming at the end of the third fiscal quarter.

It's like writing for a news aggregation site. Recycling other's people's news :p

Ah the innocence...

That's really the idea for a publishing company in any medium. They are all about money, they supply money, because they feel in the end that if this studio plays it's cards right, there will be a profit for all involved. If you don't like the idea then you have misunderstood the market. No wonder your claim to fame is a game(albiet a good one) from the 90's for a (slight) failure console.

EDIT:

Because they can't use Brosnan because of a copyright issue with his single contract, all the other bonds could have been used, but Craig is just the latest and the one to come to mind of mainstream audiences. I'd also like to pass on the desert level, but I'm sure the dev studio, seeing as they aren't in it for so much monetary reasons, will do the storyline justice.

I am very worried about this game as so many things HAVE been changed, I'd prefer a direct port with just sharpened textures and re-vamped controls.

-Synth music is gone: that was fucking classic in Goldeneye 64 now it seems to have been replaced with generic orchestral scores
-Voice acting: Goldeneye 64 was mute, explosions, shooting but all communication was simple text boxes... there was simple charm to that like a 16-bit RPG... now we have a disinterested Daniel Craig voicing (who must be well chuffed he's voicing a video game after further bond films got cancelled effectively ending his tenure as bond and turning him into a Timothy Dalton "two-film-bond") and a boring-as-hell Trevelyand
-plot has almost completely been changed... not a problem only now it seems to resolve around boring middle eastern generic terrorists cliches
-Multiplayer uses iron-sights: developers seem more interested in ripping off Modern Warfare 2 than the original goldeneye

Developers are pretty lame, previous works being James Bond: Nightfire and the PS2 version of Quantum of Solace. A "logical" choice for a James Bond game, at least in the minds of Activision and the obsessively protective owners of the James Bond Licence.

My only hope is that they bundle the original un-altered Goldeneye in with this re-make... that may be the only version I play.

This is a business. If you aren't being motivated by money in some shape or form, you're doing it wrong.

That being said, they should know that making a good sequel will yield more money, then a shit sequel.
Modern Warfare 2 made more money than Call of Duty 4...

There's the motivation to make money, and then there's just flat out greed.

This looks more like the second, as I doubt they'll need to really do much beyond cosmetic work when the design is all but done for them.

I just checked. It comes bundled with an (exclusive) golden-coloured classic controller pro.

You know, the classic controller pro. It plugs into your wiimote, and you can play using a more traditional controller design. In fact, it's basically the exact same as the PS2's controller.

Wii games don't HAVE to use the gimmicky motion sensor (You know that thing that everyone is now ripping off so shamelessly). In fact, as an added bonus: Did you know that wii games don't "have" to use friend codes for multiplayer?

And how would being on the wii make the game instantly and unavoidably trash? Is the wii the target of some ancient Mayan curse, dooming every game made for it to mediocrity? Does the curse cause all who dare play such a cursed console to simply not enjoy the games? Or are you guys just fucking retarded to so readily dismiss a console? Probably the last one.

The only problem the system really has is that most developers just don't TRY to make quality games on it. Maybe the problem is people just shoving shovelware onto the system, rather than devoting time to making it? How about considering such gems as monster hunter 3, instead of tossing out the baby with the bathwater.

Nah, that would involve thinking. Clearly not one of this community's strengths.

There's a difference between making games in order to make money and making money in order to make games. Some publishers see games as a tool to make money and intentionally design them to generate as much profit as possible, and some are actually gamers and try to make honestly good games because they want to make a living doing something they enjoy.

Activision and EA are pretty unanimously considered the former, while you could argue companies like Valve and Epic are the latter.

Remakes are genuinely made because the company wants to make the money, and the fanbase wants it.

It gives the fanbase what they want (Half will like the game, the other half will ***** about how the original was better... while playing the remake...), it makes money for the company.

And it doesnt require a single new thought. Copy, paste, update.
Trouble is, they aren't copy pasting- they're changing pretty much everything into a modern generic shooter. Even that would be kind of OK, had it not been for the Rare-made remake that was legally blocked for this one to come out. The one that could be played with updated or identical graphics to the original at any time.

GoldenEye is hardly the best FPS ever made.
Like I said, with the POSSIBLE exption of Perfect Dark. :)

And seriously, I DARE you to find me a more classic and perfect shooter.

And dont even THINK about putting Halo or CoD down!

Yes because when they originally made a game that was based on a somewhat popular movie franchise, it totally wasn't for the cash.

All slight interactive films these days...er I mean "games" are made with intent to make money..mostly from teh sheeple who happily buy crap in bulk..... but alas we no longer have gamers as designers or CEOs we have drones, gamblers and people taking 20% of the wealth of a company just cause they have the right name....

It does sound a little bit like sour grapes, even if he didn't mean it that way. Who knows...
