Not much of a trooper if it can only last 4-5 hours with no problems.

My PC can do (and probably has done) that no sweat.
Some of us don't waste our lives away playing games, 4-5 hours is good in my opinion, at least people like him have lives.

OT: my Xbox was also a trooper, but died in 2008, one minute before 2009, i was like arghhhh! got a new one which worked fine for about half a year then the Xbox decided that disks were evil and needed to be persuaded to use them...how i hated the laser in that piece of crap!

Now i have an Elite that kicks arse!!!!!
Oh look, an arse hole.

I have a life thanks. 4-5 hours isn't an impressive time.

People buy watches that go 3000m under water, it doesn't mean they're ever going to; they just like to know that they can.
nooooo not an arse hole...i wasn't aiming that at you, i was just saying at least he has a life without playing games for like a full day, didn't mean anything aimed at you, was just stating, my bad
Yes OK, that's why you quoted me then riddled your post with inference.

One should not call a four-year-old piece of electronic equipment that fails an "old friend". It does an injustice to my fall-2000 launch-day PS2 and my 1992-issue SNES that still continue to get the job done...or even to my 2006-issue gaming PC that still kicks the ass of most modern games even on medium-high settings and never misses a beat.
Considering that said piece of technology has the tendency to up and die on you at any time, I'd say four years is quite the achievement.

My 360 continues to cling doggedly to life, despite the 10 plushour demands I put on it at any one time. Damn you Mass Effect 2!

That said, my nearly a decade old PS2 also continues to work at normal capacity, as does my nearly 13 year old PlayStation, whenever I boot it up. So I can't really vouch for the 360's longevity, given that it is my second one.

But what matters this? Bravo to an old warrior who earned his place in the great green ring in the sky.

Me:*looks at 360* please...don't die on me.

But in all seriousness, that really shouldn't happen. Your paying $200-300 bucks for a console, it can't just break like that! All my older consoles I could probably leave on for days! ( I won't try it though)

They really need to make the 360 more reliable. Because all this talk about RROD, I fear playing my 360 for too long a time.

I had mine a bit after launch as well. Playing it now. It had the red ring once, but it survived without any help from me or microsoft or whoever. Sometimes I wish it would die so I could get a new one seeing as I have only a couple megabytes of space left (my sister buys random shit that she'll never use... Why the hell would you have 5 themes? You can only use one... Anyway.). Good that it lasted that long.

My xbox died about 6 months ago having been great the day since I got it. (First day, so it slugged about 4 years.)

It didn't even RRoD, the graphics card seemed to burn out, so I passed it on and got an arcade and just used my old hard drive.

So yes, let us salute our fallen comrades. -Salutes as trumpet plays-

So good-bye friend, while we will never play games like bioshock 2 or the latest madden together, or going on killing sprees online to all the noobs in MewTwo, I will still have all the fond memories from the yester years. Farewell.

...

On a lighter note, those new 360 elites are pretty cool, with bigger harddrives and colored black, plus there cheaper than their former consoles. So in a way I'm saying good-bye to an old friend but then turning around to date his younger sister. YAY!
Your like the woman who finds a new husband the day after she was widowed, aren't you?

Mine was a trooper too, it lasted until last year and then catastrophically failed. It got the red rings and then when I got it back from being "fixed" it stopped reading discs.

I don't even remember the last time I turned my 360 off. I've been tempting the red ring god's for a couple years now.

But anyway, RIP your 360, for it served you well.

Man your lucky i have had 2 originals(1 the color just went outta wack, the other got rings). And 1 elite who works when it decides to. I can actually make my elite get red rings if i want, its beyond stupid.

Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust. As we commit jacobschndr's beloved, dearest Xbox 360 to the ground, we shall remember the good times he had, whether it be on Halo, Gears, Call of Duty or even the incredible Viva Pinata. Farewell little trooper, even though I personally didn't have the honour to meet you online over a server, a small prayer shall be said in your memory.
