Yeah the Elites with the 250GB HDDs look awesome. I might need to get another HDD for mine soon

Mine has never failed me. But then again, mine is the 360's cooler, healthier cousin, the PS3. XD
Yeah but Microsoft isn't loosing $18 on every console. It means Sony is awsome for still selling then, and while the PS3 is a beast, it's not a practical money-making machine.

Not trying to start a console war here, but those are the facts. Then again, Sony won't need to develop a new console for a decade or so :D
Relevance?

Besides, Microsoft may now be operating at a profit per console sold, however, due to multiple console errors and failures, that profit has been reduced to nil or worse.

I am positive however that they have learned from the mistake and will produce a far superior product in the next gen. This is not an attack on the games produced, don't get =me wrong as many have been of top quality.
Every since they installed the Jasper Chipsets into the 360s the failure rate has significantly dropped. The new Elites with 120GB HDD are the technology perfected. High-failure rates for 360s is old news (at least 3 years old now).

I wouldn't state something as a fact when it is, in fact, not one.

As of Sony's last report, they are currently losing only six CENTS on each PS3 sold, and it will begin to turn a good profit by the end of this year to the beginning of the next.
I know I shouldn't beleive everything I read but this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98110-PS3-Loss-Down-to-Just-Eighteen-Bucks] sounds close enough to the truth for me.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/02/sony-still-losing-dollars-well-cents-on-every-ps3-sold/

Is where I heard six cents. However, in the comments, someone states that kotaku did it wrong, and that Sony stated they were losing six cents per dollar, which would equal up to 17.94.

Assuming that the person in the comments is correct, and Kotaku did it wrong, I apologize.
No everything on the internet is true. Same thing goes for info found just about anywhere. It's certainly not the fault of those who use it as a trusted source XD

Mine never failed, until it did.
Freakin' Red ring of reoccurence.

Unfortunately when I shipped mine off to microsoft they just gave me a new version of the same model. My friend died, and I got his clone, not his hot sister.

But then I got a 120 gig harddrive, so now he has a great rack. And I should probably stop using this metaphor.

R.I.P.jacobschndr's 360.

I too lost my 360 not too long ago. He served proudly for five long years before he finally passed on. An Elite serves in his place now.

Rest with the angels, sweet knight.

I bought an Elite over a year ago and am yet to experience a red ring of death. I have had three instances of freezing, but I blame the game discs. I was also smart enough to get 3 extra years of warranty. I didn't do that with my PS3, given the system's good track record.

Mine lasted a good year. I'm glad to see red ring patients lasting this long. One day, we may be able to cure this horrible disease. Please donate to the Red Ring society today.

I hope my 360 never dies on me. It would break my heart. Just thinking about it is getting me emotional *sniff sniff*.

same thing happened to me, sept i got the 2.0 modle, but it pooped out on me a day before fable 2 (which in hind sight, not a bad thing) so i was pissed, but it gave me time to be Persona 3... twice (For all those who know the game, you know how long that takes, withough skipping any of the dialog or anything)

This thread scared me.
Mine's still going strong since 2006.

It's been screwing up recently, and I think I may have to lay him to rest soon and get myself some hot elite tail.

I leave my Elite on for days on end downloading things and it's never had an issue...exept for one time when a friend tried to play a pirated copy of ace Combat 6 and it uploaded a virus into it.

Since then though, considering it was an original model, my Elite is fairing very well. I leave it on for tens of hours at a time, it sits in a cigar-case-of-a-spot under my tv, horizontally, and the only time it's ever frozen is when played assassin's creed 1 which I think may have been a disk error.

All in all, RIP Your 360, and embrace the Elite, his more attractive and less wheezy brother.

Not much of a trooper if it can only last 4-5 hours with no problems.

My PC can do (and probably has done) that no sweat.
4-5 hours? Try 4-5 months. And that's only because a good storm might knock the power out for an hour.

It was supposed to say "double that no sweat.".

4-5 months might be pushing it a little though :p

One should not call a four-year-old piece of electronic equipment that fails an "old friend". It does an injustice to my fall-2000 launch-day PS2 and my 1992-issue SNES that still continue to get the job done...or even to my 2006-issue gaming PC that still kicks the ass of most modern games even on medium-high settings and never misses a beat.
Man's got a point, my SNES is also still working. It's yellowed... but it still works, they don't build 'em like they used to eh?

Still I can understand your torment, my friends PS3 packed in after a year, although we believe it was down to him plkaying COD4 and Oblivion for long periods of time each day and smoking with the windows closed. Now we don't smoke near the PS3.

If yours was reliable, my 360 is rambo. It could clock in 14 hours straight without freezing or crashing. Mine had the red ring of death already and it's been fixed.I shall still pay respect to your 360*pours 40 on curb*

Intercoolers are not a bad idea .The only problem with that specific intercooler is the fact that u plug it into the 360 itself. If your trying to cool something down wouldn`t it make more sense to not have an extra device pulling power from your console , causing it to heat up more. Theres another one thats better , it plugs into the wall so as not to strain your 360 further . Iv`e been using a basic clip on fan from walmart its worked the best and it was definitely cheaper.

I can honestly say I've had my xbox since the beginning. I got it a week after it debuted into the world and while all my friends xbox's got the infamous red ring of death mine was still kicking ass. I was really proud of the little old guy, never froze, never lagged (a lot anyway) just kept going, sometimes four to five hours even.

But alas, not more than an hour ago, I went to play it again and this time it never came on. Like a person who dies peacefully in their sleep, my 360 would never wake again *sigh and sob*

So good-bye friend, while we will never play games like bioshock 2 or the latest madden together, or going on killing sprees online to all the noobs in MewTwo, I will still have all the fond memories from the yester years. Farewell.

...

On a lighter note, those new 360 elites are pretty cool, with bigger harddrives and colored black, plus there cheaper than their former consoles. So in a way I'm saying good-bye to an old friend but then turning around to date his younger sister. YAY!
Be sure to get a Nyko intercooler for your next 360. That's the biggest problem with the console...insufficient cooling. But with this thing my 360 has stayed cool to the touch no matter where you feel it:

The best way to keep your 360 cool is to have plenty of breathing room. Keep it out in the open and don't put it in a cabinet and it will stay nice and cool.
