A lot of people always complain about how bad the endings to games normally are but something most people forget about is all the ones that have good endings. What are some of your favorites? My top two are Prince of Persia The Sands of Time and Red Dead Redemption.

Prince of Persia
{The Prince uses the dagger to reverse time back to the events before the beginning of the game, even though this means losing the love of the princess. Its great because its actually poignant because we can see the growth of the prince as a character and we feel his loss, plus it sticks with the fairy tale feel of the whole tale with its deus ex machina style ending.}

Red Dead Redemption

{John Marston confronts a wave of American soldiers outside of his home and is gunned down. Jack and Abigail return to find him dead and three years later Jack has become an outlaw like his father. This ending is powerful because it represents John's final act of redemption in order to save his family, but his son still falls pray to the vicious cycle of violence.}

Persona 3

Seeing the main character give his own life in exchange for another chance for humanity was heart-breaking. The sense of desperation and finality seen in that ending evoked some of the most powerful emotions I have experienced in a piece of fiction. Seeing yourself on graduation day talking with the people who's lives you changed and talking with your friends for one last time before you pass away in Aegis's arms was masterful.

mass effect 3

for real though:

the witcher 2, i think it pulled off on beating the trope (there will be a witcher 3 obviously) of the sequelitis, where so many 2nd games of trilogies tend to be fillers and/or just bridges between 1 and 3. (which this all wraps up nicely in the ending)

dragon age: origins
i knocked up the hot chick with old god semen, killed the arch demon, and i'm heralded a hero...

what's not to love?

Persona 4.

I loved how Persona 4 ended, I mean when you defeat Adachi you feel like you have completed the game. But the fact that you haven't found the true mastermind is awesome, and then you must take up arms to end the mist once and for all.

And at the very end where your friends see you off is awesome and shows you the true power of friendship.

Too bad the person you had a romance with didn't go with you.

But still. P4 told me a load of things.

I hope they release it on the PS3...or P5 will be just as good. :D

Honorable Mentions go to...

Red Dead Redemption. (Felt sad but rewarding)
Infamous 2 (MADE ME CRY!)
Fable 1 (With Expansion)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Awesome end battle)
Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening (Just feels good to be the hero)

And that's all for now, I hope I can add Dragon's Dogma to the list. :p

Half Life 2. There was no great revelation or closure to the game, but the way the final events wrapped up, and the way that last scene unfolded was perfect.

That's my likeness you're using, pal.

And my joke you just stole.
ah sadly that is a funnyjunk picture, so the link doesn't work...could you perhaps find it somewhere else or tell me what it was?

otherwise, sorry bubb, i'm a paragon and the games ending is laughably bad, using your face for it just seemed all too perfect ;)

I said this b4 in another thread. Metal Gear Solid 4's ending was the epitome of "leave no stone unturned". Answered questions that I didn't even have.

This one gets my vote too. I think it was an absolutely perfect way to wrap up the story. I really enjoyed seeing how all of my social links wrapped up too, see how everyone wound up after going through everything with them.

It hurt even more when I saw that they had lost their memories... I knew it was coming, but geez. I played P3P and wound up romancing Shinjiro... He lived and yet... Ugh it's breaks my heart a little just thinking about it. I'm gonna stop gushing now.

I've always liked the end of Planescape: Torment, and System Shock 2 of course, that little coda is pretty creepy and awesome. "Tommy... what's the matter, lover? Don't you like my new look?".

Quite. I prefer to think of Price dying and Soap being crippled for life. Seems a just ending for the barbarism everyone indulges in.

yea, but that is what made MGS4 so...weird.

it was less of a game and more of a "holy crap we have to wrapup the hundreds of loose ends in a single game"

the game was basically a giant fan service with a ton of inside jokes and references that people who didnt play ALL of the MGS games from 1-3 would never get.

I think I'm in the minority here when I say I liked the ending to Fallout 3. The good-guy ending that is. It stuck with me and ended on a really optimistic if, bitter-sweet note I thought.

Mass Effect. I loved the ending of the original ME game but mainly because of the feelings of anticipation and, satisfaction that existed after the original game and before the second was out or, even talked about. Also, talking Saren into shooting himself blew my mind (you know what yes: pun fucking intended because it's a good one) and still does when I did it in later playthroughs. Hey people who beat ME3, does Bring Down the Sky end up mattering? I can't play ME1 because of it and am tempted to just delete it and start a fresh campaign.

Just finished Max Payne 3 and it had a pretty badass ending, if a little short.

MW3 also had a very brutally satisfying finish.

Heck yeah dude! ME1 had one of the most epic endings EVER! I thought 3 was going to be on par with the ending :( oh well I can still hope the indoctrination theory is true, cause that would blow my mind.

I liked the endings of Bioshock, Prototype, and Persona 3, to name a few. That's all I really can say...
