Good games with terrible plots.

Assassin's Creed 2 comes to mind. It's very similar to the Matrix Trilogy in a way. It starts out pretty good, then the plot gets gutted and trips over its own intestines in part 2. By the end of the game my brain was ready to explode trying to make sense of it all.

As much as I love the game, Condemned: Criminal Origins has a pretty stupid plot by the end.

There really isn't a reason given for why you were being stalked by SKX, or why some weird cult is interested in you. I don't care if the sequel explains everything or not (not in the mood to play it), the game would have been better if the plot had completed itself in the first game and let the sequel build upon the original.

You know, Jaws Unleashed has a pretty terrible plot but I had a lot of fun playing it. Maybe it's because I think sharks are cool but I enjoyed it.

Prototype. That was great fun, but had a terrible plot.
Have to agree, while I loved hunting down the Web of intrigue targets and reading through them every now and then I felt like they only made the plot told in this strange confusing way to make it seem more complex then it really was.
Plus, Alex Mercer's adventure itself wasn't terribly engaging and the characters involved didn't really do much for me and although it was original for the main character's female acomplice to be his sister and not some woman who will obviously eventually become his girlfriend I didn't really warm to anyone.
However, the gameplay was fun and some of the attack moves were original so there is that to say in its favour.

Any of the Mario games. There's pretty much no plot to speak of, but the gameplay is nothing short of amazing.

and fable 2,
Also I gotta agree with this, Fable 1 was actually alright but Fable 2 lost a few points because it always seemed to be rushing into things a little too hastily and while it had a good voice cast, including Stephen Fry, ultimatley it failed to really engage on a plot level.
Much preferred the original Fable I have to say.

No-one else is going to say it? Fine. Modern Warfare 2.
Yep, I enjoyed playing the single player campaign. Not because of the story, because that was utter crap. But the huge number of completely random set-pieces? Great fun!
I fully agree. I mean to me it really was, screw the story just do awesome shit and try to tie it together. And hell...I was fine with that.

Ninja Gaiden 2. Amazing game, retarded story.
I didn't even follow the story. I just kind of looked at the cool monsters and said "Eh, whatever." Loved the game.

Personally I'd say the first Trauma Center. It was an incredible game. But seriously....terrorists making very puzzle-like viruses where skilled surgeons can figure out how to beat them in like 2 procedures. Meh. I did like the under-story of him being unsure about if he's a doctor but honestly the terrorist thing was very much meh. Similar in the Second one.

Or conversly bad games with great plots. What games have you played with great gameplay but a story that makes you want to kill someone or vice versa.

For me the good one has to be FF10, the gameplay was fun as fuck but the story made me want to burn square enix to the ground. Auron and Sin were amazing though.

And the bad one has to be Ninja Gaiden 2, the gameplay was glitchy and broken and cheap as hell, but the story was awesome.

[edit] Okay sorry about putting discuss in big letters I was trying to be funny and it didn't work.
No-one's said Borderlands? Seriously...? Fun, party game with friends but goddamn the plot... what plot!?

Anyways the story in Serious Sam isn't 'bad' per se, but it's barely there at all. It's just an excuse for the action.

Serious Sam (anything except 2 cause it doesn't exist). I'm not even sure there is a plot other than giant headed aliens crash into spaceship, spaceship crashes into earth, kill aliens. brilliant game though!
If your looking for a good story in Serious Sam your missing the point completely. Your fighting aliens trying to take over the world by going back in time... so what, its not meant to be a good story, its basically taking the piss out of all those "realistic" and space marine shooters. and going back to fps basics where you shot lots of dudes with big guns

Definitely Just Cause 2. The gameplay is a blast doing random crap and seeing insane ways to take out vehicles chasing you or guys shooting at you, but the acting and story is SO AWFUL. Next up is Final Fantasy 12. Story was pretty bad, acting was actually decent for once (considering FF acting thus far), but it was the fun as hell gameplay that made me do every thing humanly possible, yes, including the stupidly long 2 hour fight.

Borderlands.

I very much enjoyed the game and its characters, but the story was basically "Find phat lewt. Soldiers try to kill you. Wait, what? Aliens?"

Mirror's Edge. If the plot was longer and more detailed, it would be much better.

Resi 4's plot was freaking stupid, so it's a good thing the game was so damn fun.
