I have been playing through some older games lately and I have realized that there is a lot of good games that I didn't catch when they first released.

Tell me about the games that you think that everyone should play. It can be everything from indie titles to mainstream games that everyone seems to have forgotten about.

Gunstar Heroes.

Available on PS3, 360, Wii, and even STEAM[/red].

No excuse to not try this Genesis classic. It's dirt cheap, too.

Darklands.

DOS game set in medieval Germany, taking a brutal and realistic look at the time. It's notable for being one of the earliest examples of open-world gameplay, with a very literary, expansive, and well-fleshed out environment to explore and get killed by.

Lemmings. Still a fun game to play when you don't have much to do.

Speaking as someone born into the current generation, and loving FPS games and Point and click games, I suggest people play:
The Orange Box games,
Beyond Good and Evil,
Donkey Kong Country 1-3,
Tribes series,
Every Sam and Max(Even the new ones),
Grim Fandango,
Blood,
The Neverhood.

Definitely Morrowind and Red Alert 2. Still as awesome as the day they came out.

Edit: I forgot one! Rise of Nations!

Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, Legend of the Dragoon, Timesplitters. So many great, yet forgotten games.

Heroes of Might & Magic 3: If you haven't played this game... well, I don't know what to say other than shame on you. Shame! This is one of those few games I find appeals to just about everyone, and it's aged wonderfully to boot. My little teenaged sister, over ten years younger than me who's currently obsessed with anime, even she loves this game. It's just one of those few games that tend to appeal to everyone in one way or another, while also being so very, very good! It's just a prime example of a game which somehow does everything right, and those are surprisingly rare.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2: Quite often you see people talking about how much they love/hate Bioware basing their entire opinions on recent works the likes of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. That fine, but if you really want to have some perspective on Bioware or even rpg in general, go back to Bioware's first big rpg hit. Take a look at the series that made them who they are and what many people believe to be their magnum opus as a studio!

The Longest Journey: Often people read, watch, or even talk about gaming as a story-telling medium across forums and gaming sites as well as maybe with friends. If you're one of those people, play this game. It is in terms of story-telling (In my opinion) the proverbial peak of the adventure genre! It told a beautiful, unique story with some of the most compelling characters in gaming today all stunningly brought to life with an amazing script and solid voice acting. The games puzzle elements were lacking, but as an example of story-telling in the gaming medium you honestly can't do much better, and it's a shame the game is so often overlooked.

Plenty of other games I really love or enjoy, but those are the three I think everyone who wants to call themselves a 'gamer' and whatnot should give a shot. Each for their own reasons. All also available at GOG.com. Those guys oughta be paying me for all the times I've linked that site on these forums. Shesh.

That game made me start pumping out adrenaline whenever I went into water (in a game). Those bloody sharks on that beach level, and that music *shudders*. Luckily puberty and Monster Hunter Tri turned my adrenaline pumping into cautious spatial-awareness.

OT: Golden Sun 1 & 2. Awesome games, and Megaman Battle Network 3 is pretty fun.

War of the Monsters. Play it, dammit.
I played the demo, then bought the game, but it was pre-owned and crapped out on me fairly quickly *sad face*. Awesome game though, I love playing as the dragon.

I'd say System Shock 2, but to be honest, I don't think the majority of the latest generation of gamers are deserving.

It just makes me think that some idiot could install the game, play it for 30 minutes and decide to uninstall it because "OMg GraPhiX lock leik shitt lol dis gmae sUx, Halo pwns all!"

And such a person just isn't worthy of experiencing the masterpiece that is SS2, let alone worthy of their own organs.
