Evil Dead 1 (if that's the one you're discounting) is very good too, it just isn't a funny film, it's straight horror.

Oh I totally agree my friend, it's just that the reason that I personally fell in love with the series was the humour in episodes 2 and 3. 1 is a great horror film in it's own right, I just love the second 2 parts much, much more. Plus the tree-rape scene in the first one still messes with my head.
