i pose two questions for you fellows.

firstly do you think gore is good or bad, and should it be implemented in games?

secondly, if you agree with me that gore belongs in games, why do games fail to make gore as it should be? fallout 3 has pretty realistic gore, heads explode and you can see eyes and bits of jawbone flying through the air.
but near the beginning of bioshock for example, a big daddy drills a splicer into a wall, and there is no gore save for a little blood, and no hole is left in the corpse.
is there any reason for this? can game developers not get away with it or is it for some other reason? any ideas?

Gore adds a layer of satisfaction as well as a layer of blood.

Oh God yes. Gore is an amazing thing.

Only when it's not used to distract from game quality and when it's done right.
Don't underestimate the power of a good brain explosion in a game.

I'd assume Its just because of faulty development. And I dont mind Gor but I dont care if its there or not.

SHould have had a poll

Oh, yeah.
Totally.

I remember, the last time I shot someone in the head with a pistol that was a few hundred years old, their head exploded.

Yeah.
That happened.
hehe well i did say pretty realistic. obviously there are exceptions, but i'm fairly sure that a shotgun would have that effect on someone's head.

Gore in gaming is like letting off a stink bomb in the School Assembly - it's unnecessary, but it's satisfying and fun.

Probably because over-the-top gore is considered tasteless. Gore should be in games for realism, but it should be kept to a realistic minimum, like Halo 3.

I prefer simply blood. Gore doesn't phase me in the least, but it simply almost always garuntees an M-(or whatever your equivalent is)rating. I'm not one who's downright against gore, but I'm not much of a supporter of it, either.
well i'm not exactly desperate for it. it's just that with games that are 18 rating etc, why not make it more gory. people don't have to explode or anything, but most games lack even bullet holes... which is disappointing.

It's almost the only reason I aim solely for heads in L4D.

Infected heads just pop apart like a big zit, flying satisfyingly gooey red gibs everywhere.

I'm a big fan of gore in games, the more brutal the better. In some games it makes it all the more satisfying.
I just rented ninja gaiden sigma 2, for the sole reason of ridiculous gore like on the xbox version and man was i pissed off when i found that they'd removed it all. It really takes the satisfaction out of killing enemies in that game, and actually makes it a pretty substandard/dull game.

I remember i rented jurassic park for the n64 like 10 years ago and it had an option to turn blood off. Whenever my mom sees my playing like cod or anything she always tells me to turn blood off as she has been doing for 10 years. but seriously i don't mind having no blood, cant they just put a no blood option if only to shut my mom up?

gore is good provided its used correctly, in some games it doesn't work.
