Some info pulled from gameinformer:

"According to Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos is bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto IV combined. Yep. There's wilderness, a military base, and even an ocean floor to explore underwater.

You can switch between the game's three main protagonists at "nearly any time."

Those three protagonists, by the way, are named Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. Michael is a retired bank robber who gets sucked back into crime; Trevor is a career criminal and drug addict; Franklin is a 20-something street hustler.

Sometimes they'll work together on missions, during which you can switch back and forth from character to character depending on which part of a given mission you feel like doing.

Each character has his own personality, skill set, and group of friends to interact with. And the ones you're not controlling will go off and do their own thing.

This is the same world as Grand Theft Auto IV and Liberty City, so you might see some recurring characters from those games (just not the major ones, like Niko Bellic). But. Rockstar says this is the "high-definition" world of Grand Theft Auto, so don't expect to see anyone from the PS2-era titles.

Remember those randomized dynamic missions in Red Dead Redemption? They're back for GTAV: expect hitchhikers, muggers, and dead bodies, among others.

Yes friendships. No romance.

Rockstar says there will be an economy, but you won't be able to buy properties. There will be "loads of other stuff."

"According to Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos is bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto IV combined."

That is a hell of a lot of space, thoughts? Is that a good or a bad thing really?

I think it can be both, san andreas was a barrel of fun with all the places to play around in, but GTA IV was much prettier and more presented, with a much more focused set of details and so on.

Thoughts on anything else? I like the implication that other main characters will run around while you are off doing your thing on the third protagonist.

Bigger maps sounds cool, the friends system possibly being back however really doesn't. Every time I've attempted to replay GTA 4 the constant,'Hey Niko, wanna go bowling!?' has stopped me playing. I could be reading too much into the friends line though, thought R* had realised it was annoying when it wasn't in the dlc much or in Red Dead at all.

Sounds like typical PR crap yes its bigger better but also has all you liked before just more so. Heard it all thousands of times before will wait until the final product to make a call.

As for it being a bigger space to roam around in well that could be good or bad depending on how they handle it, judging by previous efforts I am not hopeful.

This says to me "Lots of empty space, made solely for the sake of being there."

You know what's bigger than any GTA game? Evochron Mercenary.
You can fly between planets in real-time if you want to. Lots of nothing to pad it out too.

(no, I am not implying there isn't anything to do in GTA; but bigger is not always better; give your scale a purpose besides showing off)

Really? I quite liked the friend system, the characters was enjoyable enough for me to not be annoyed by the frequency of it. That and I am a fan of minigames. Also the banter was fun I think, so I am glad they bring it back, if they do.

I did like the characters but the frequency of it and how I always seemed to get called as I was thinking of doing something else in game just made it feel like the game was forcing me to stop playing it the way I wanted to just as I was starting to have fun with it.

What's being described is both the interior and exterior spaces though, so they could have just made a shit-ton of places to go inside as well as having a big map. If there's more focus on heist missions and shit, then there needs to be a few large interiors to make it more exciting.

The only problem I had with it was how everyone was such a needy *****. It sucked to be planning on some side mission, drive halfway across town to get to it, and before you can activate it your phone rings and now you have to go bowling so you can keep a nice perk.

And the mini-games all kind of sucked. It was alright to play once or twice, but after a while I just took them drinking so I could have fun trying to walk afterwards. They should bring back the Go-Cart races from Bully or maybe a Paint Ball or Laser Tag... something GTA-esque instead of just random parlor games.

And I really wish one of these games would license some proper arcade games. I'd love to be able to go into an arcade and have dozens of real games to choose from. Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Tetris, Pole Position.

Oh thank heavens you control all three characters. I was dreading they'd shoehorn in a co-op mode you'd have to play if you wanted the full experience.

The characters sound very interesting, especially the drug addict. I wonder how they'll implement it in gameplay.

Hopefully, I always find it ridiculous how relatively few (compared to the actual size of the map) good interior locations there are in GTA games, and other sandboxes generally. Obviously, many properties and things would be locked and inaccessible, but you do feel as if you don't have the ability to roam "freely" because interiors are not there.

This would be much better than the alternative.

My biggest gripe with the GTA games is the lack of interior exploration. I know there have been technical limitations in the past, but surely some of those have been over come by now, and we can actually go inside more than 1% of the buildings in the game?

As for the rest of the info, is sounding very cool. I'm not quite sure on the triple protagonist thing, I guess it encourages you to do multiple playthroughs, but it could become a drag if done incorrectly, as well as impeding the connection you can make with a single character. Will have to see what direction they go with it.

Do not like the lack of property buying though.

Some more details.

A bigger map sounds cool but it will depend what they do with it. Then again I've spent hours just driving around San Andreas listening to Master Sounds.
What's cool is that it sounds like we get a lot of vehicles and we won't have to buy a $20 dlc pack for the cool ones. I just dread to think how much San Fierro & Las Venturas will cost.

Yea, if the map is really that big, we'll need a couple of safehouses. Properties were also good for sinking the tons of cash that would pile up. I always hoped they would do more with it rather than cut it out.
Also a big agreement on the interiors; that's my biggest gripe with all open world games.

I'm with those hoping there's a larger amount of interior space. A map the size of Vice City's, or perhaps a bit larger, with the ability to go in a lot (most? all?) buildings would be just fine for me. I don't need San Andreas' huge, empty map. I'd rather have a smaller space that you can end up knowing inside and out, no map required.

Just like the "friends calling you" mechanic was divisive and made people fall out of love with GTA IV, This "play 3 characters at once" mechanic looks to be similar. Sounds cool on paper, makes for an interesting pitch, when in action it drives you crazy. I really hope they nail this one, Los Santos was my favorite GTA environment.
