One greatly underappreciated band is:

"Kamelot"

Okay, so they ARE popular in eastern Europe, but almost no-one outside of Norway has heard of them, which is a shame, because they are a genuinely good symphonic metal band, and deserve far more recognition.
Then again, the entire metal genre is underappreciated thanks to the raft of 'scream music', which I am NOT a fan of!
Truth. The Black Halo and Epica are amazing. Wish more people knew of their existence!

Lordi and Within Temptation are bands from Finland and Holland that I am a fan of.
Good man, I love Lordi.

"HARD, ROCK, HALLELUJAH!"
Gotta love Within Temptation. Although I'm getting really sick of people assuming that all female fronted metal is ripping off Evanescence. I have had people mistake Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lunatica, and Sirenia for what is essentially a rock band with pop lyrics.

For another chick led band, check out Lacuna Coil [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixxtnrWb17Y&feature=channel]

Wilco, anyone? I hope...
Wilco is my favorite band. They definitely wouldn't qualify as one that not many people have heard of. They were featured extensively in Funny People, have been on the late night shows many times, pretty much sell out all concerts (big venues). There were the VW commercials. They're about as big as a band can be without actually being mainstream.

Brad Sucks. Good music to listen to anytime.
Currently checking them out, Borderline sounds like a good song so far, going to look into him some more.
Bad Sign and Understood by Your Dad are my favorites from him.

ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) is definitely a great band that many people haven't heard of. They go way back to the 70s and they made some great symphonic rock songs like Tarkus and Karn Evil 9, some of the most powerful songs I have ever heard.

Masters Apprentices are an old Australian band not even many Australians know about.

Damn... not bad. I usually prefer clean vocals, but this is one of the few bands I know where the death growls are really appropriate (the only other good one is Sirenia, listen to Sirens Of The Seven Seas or Sundown)

Kelly Bell Band

you are now my new favorite person on the escapist.
i fucking LOVE kelly bell band
i need to check out that live album, but i see them every time they play here
someone needs to copy paste kelly bell's description of their music, its hilarious and shows you how diverse of a band they are

anyways, yeah anybody how hasn't heard them and appreciates good musicians check them out
I actually just started getting into the Kelly Bell Band. I had meant to listen to some of their stuff for a long time, but only just got around to it about a week ago. The Live album in question is called "Live from the Recher...Finally!" and should be purchased at your first convenience. If you can only buy one song off it, get "Good Night for the Blues". And then punch yourself in the face for not buying the rest of the album.

Obviously, these bands aren't unheard of. Perhaps a more appropriate thread title is in order.

Hell, I'd like to meet someone who doesn't know Streetlight Manifesto.

Regardless, I've gotten into Daft Punk recently. I'm sure a lot of people have heard of them, but they were news to me, so whatever.
Hi I'm someone who hasn't heard of Streetlight Manifesto until now.
Don't "Hi" me! Who hired you!? The Russians? Chinese?

I'll kill them all!

Like I mentioned earlier, until you posted about them, I hadn't heard of them either. It took less than a minute of that song you posted for me to decide to buy an album. Awesome sound, rock mixed with swing, nice!

Augury is a pretty unknown technical/progressive death metal group.

Their bassist was pretty awesome too, but he left like a month ago :(

Heres a clip of him playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z_V1nKy7cM

The music isn't particularly good, but it's fun for a laugh:

Ten Masked Men are essentially the heavy metal version of Richard Cheese, taking popular songs and making them into over the top heavy metal covers. For example...

Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby One More Time [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbr38RQSBuM&feature=related]
Coolio - Gangster's Paradise [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwuLlIUnamI&feature=PlayList&p=8D78E01844FC5676&index=0]

And for those of you who don't know Richard Cheese, he's a lounge singer that does over the top covers of hard rock songs. Some good ones: (If it makes any difference, he doesn't censor the language, so fair warning.)

Disturbed - Down With the Sickness [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o39etJFlW7k]
Papa Roach - Last Resort [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlJuTRoZre4]

He just sounds so happy and enthusiastic, it's hilarious!
