Great Games Rendered Unplayable

Does anyon else find that they're old favourite games are now impossible to play? I'm not talking about some godless glitch or bug making it awful, or the latest patch ruining it, or even just your taste changing, I'm talking about owning a great game which, for whatever reason, is now impossible to play. Maybe your console bust, maybe it's a Win 3.2 title, whatever the reason.

Presonally, I can't play Fallout 2. I've got 2 hard copies of them, one is on the Fallout Collection pack with FO1 and Tactics, but FO2 is the only one which won't work. I've got the Sold Out Software copy which, upon instillation, began stating that I need to have the disk to run the game (It was refering to the disk that was sitting in the drive) and at the peak of desperation, I've now got it in torrent form and downloaded PowerISO only to find that I can't run it in a temp file as it needs 20MB disk space and I can't run it directly as I have no way of mounting .DAT files.

KOTOR 2 is another example. For some reason, unless I turn the computer on for the very first time for the day late morning, and immediately run it after Windows has loaded, the game will just flat out not work. One of those "Encountered an error with the program. Searching for solution" things.

Anyone else got an old favourite which they can hold in their hands without trouble but never play? Who knows, maybe someone in the forum may even be nice enough to help you back onto it.

Thief, can't seem to run it on XP even when I disable the second virtual processor. I just get to the game and it freeses while loading ;___;

And it may not be "old" per say but Oblvion on the 360. Its just impossable for me to play it without mods, just too much problems.

Its actually strange that only one of my old games won't work on Vista, that game being the original Red Alert. Games like Starcraft, Baldur's Gate and Total Annihilation all work but Red Alert won't. I installed Wing Commander Prophecy a while back and the game played fine except that all the FMV's were sped up really fast and rendered unwatchable.

If you're particularly wanting to play Fallout 2, it's available on gog.com for $5.99 (so about 4 quid to you and I), and guaranteed to work.

My Nvidia GeForce 7600GS is new enough to run a lot of stuff, and old enough to screw me over when I'm trying to play Daggerfall or X-Wing. A little tinkering to do with some, but other than that I can run pretty much any older games.

I had this problem. Something about missing fonts. Go for the ridiculously high install, then download patches online.

the first time I tried to play KotoR a few months ago I ran into the carth glitch. I nearly just threw the game out until I would the really odd fix fo it.

Well not the whole game but one quest is rendered mute in Fallout 3 and that is the 'deactivate the bomb' quest in Megaton. If I go anywhere near the freakin' thing, like at all I die instantly.

I got a laptop whit integrated graphic card (familychipset 965 or somehing like that,dosen´t it sound powerful ) and on top of that VISTA so its safe to say I CANT RUN ANYTHING

Here's a good one.

Fallout 3. The scripting in the in-game "cinematics" was off really bad. They would say something....and then just....stare. No freezing, it was just the scripting screwing it up. Sometimes console commands worked. Sometimes they didn't.

I can't run daggerfall. Thats the only game I tried to run on my computer. I can't play any of the kotor games on my 360 because the backwards compatibility is shit. All those damn glitches. Thats about it though.

Thief 3: Deadly Shadows for Xbox... Stupid glitches for the 360; it ruins it. I can see fire through walls!
