Outlive for the PC, basically a StarCraft clone but still bloody awesome.
That was a great game. If anyone has heard of it you are my instant friend, just add water.

One game I loved to play when I was younger was Ape Escape for the PS1. Apparently there were sequels but I never heard about them.

That was the first time I ever had to use the analog stick in a video game - it used to be just the directional buttons.

Frontier series....

Even in all of it's simple hexagon glory this game system incorporated elements never seen before or seen again. The largest being a massive galaxy sized world in a style we now call sand box, it was made prior to even the term itself. It incorporated, much to the annoyance of fighter pilot style players, real physics that would be utilised by craft manoeuvring in space. I will always remember my first trip into a super nova and how my ship broke apart still so many AU away from the centre of this massive and beautiful red orb.

Truly it was a game before it's time and remembered only by old gamers such as myself. Yes, I still say if they remade it with today's graphics, updated the AI, ship component system, and linked the markets in ways that they would realistic fluctuate (no more endless runs to the Van whatever star with luxury goods (illegal) from earth for massive amounts of cash) it would probably be quite a big seller... even without the ability to multiplayer as it uses time manipulation mechanics to explain away the massive amount of time it takes to move through a solar system.

All this glorious universe fit onto a single floppy disk... amazing how efficient the code was, even if the graphics where... well... not pretty but hey it was the bronze age of computer technology!

Rocket Knight Adventure anyone? Only hard to remember due to it's age, not that it was really that far off mainstream (if at all). Fantastic music for the time though, and Axel was a wicked villain for someone with no lines whatsoever.

Star Control II
One of the best games ever made and yet there's only a handful of people I know who've even heard of it...
Check out The Ur'Quan Masters.

Remake of the entire game. Awesome stuff.
Oh yeah I know, they did excellent work on it and I'm glad there's people who refuse to let it die, I still go to the UQM website to check up on the project every now and then :). I still play it every once in a while for old times' sake but still, haven't seen many people who've even heard about it...

Does anyone else remember Kirby's Fun Pack [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby%27s_Fun_Pack]'? I don't know how popular it was overseas, but it was rare as hell here, and I still have trouble finding it.

But it is easily one of the most fun games I've ever played on the SNES.
It was sold in North America as "Kirby Super Star".

Day-um, that game was fun. And the one I was gonna say :(

Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle for the NES. First game I ever beat, and it wasn't easy for a 7-year-old who was just getting into gaming. But it helped hook me. Heh... silly rabbit.

The Incredible Machine 3.0 *I believe it was* for the PC was another one of my first childhood lovers. Ye gods that game was great... too bad they don't make wacky, open-ended puzzle games like that anymore. At times it was like Lemmings, at others, more akin to Loony Toons.

Breath of Fire 2 and 3 were awesome RPGs that I never hear about D<

Applause for mentioning SoA, but the original on the Dreamcast was far superior. The audio wasn't horribly compressed, the controller - albeit somewhat ungainly - was made for it, and... well, you had the VMU to play with ^-^ Personally, I own both the DC and GC versions, though my VMUs don't work anymore since the batteries die in about two weeks and replacing them is an expensive ***** >.> THAT, more than anything, is what I believe (theoretically) killed the DC; having to spend hundreds of dollars a year on batteries for a barely-functional but fairly-fun game accessory that turns out to be a necessity.

Anyways...

Garfield: Caught In The Act was a fun game for the Genesis :) Solid platforming mixed with some furry close and distanced combat (via throwing things, which changed with every level). And... well, its Garfield. Your health is restored by eating pizza and lasagna, and attacked somehow... I forget exactly. But it went through various parodies of films, and eventually ended in a boss fight. Nowadays it might seem bland to some, and for certain it was short, but it was fun ^_^
