Great under rated games?

My personal favorite underrated game is:

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. That will be my answer every time this thread pops up!

I will then follow it up with the ArmA games. They are buggy, but they deserve to be played!

yes but for some reason people still haven't gone out and played it, hell I haven't met more than a hanful of people that have actually heard of the game

Thank you sir, I'm glad someone else knew this game's greatness. If it was remade with the same kind of complex class system, guild battles and extremely open pvp but somehow combined with say a Guild Wars type campaign on the side, oh magical things could happen. WoW would pale and wilt next to it.

I was all ready to contest your "edit," and looked into it. Turns out, you're right. Must have been the batman/Darkness cross over that confused me. I thought Top Cow was a part of DC comics.

now, MY response for an underrated game... Vexx. This game was absulutely PANNED by every review I read. But I love it. Excellent old-school 3d platforming, and the glove gimmick just works lol

Oh man! I loved Vexx too! I saw some crap preview for it and then I think my dad got it for my birthday or something back when it came out. I had a GREAT time playing it- the music and environments were so memorable.

Other good Gamecube candidates are Lost Kingdoms and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. Both were really fun, especially if you had friends for FF:CC, and I loved the storyline to Lost Kingdoms (1 and 2.) And again, the music was fantastic.

Bio Freaks to N64

a 3D fighting with not so good controls but you could FREAKING SHOOT YOUR ENEMIES ARMS OFF! And the enemy could do the same to you. And the only option left to fight is to kick with all your might.

Beyond Good And Evil is also one of my all time favorites. I actually jumped with joy when I heard that it will come a sequel.

Not sure if it counts but I think Okami to Wii might also be a little underrated. Also one of my all time favorites.

While everyone else is nostalgic for their underrated games of the past, my favorite underrated game is by far Heavenly Sword.

It had solid gameplay, great pacing, excellent voice acting, decent and predictable story, and superb boss battles.

It was possibly the greatest 6 hours spent beating a game for me, I'd go back and play it again if school didn't start so early.

The game got hype, good reviews, everyone raved about it. Its overrated not underrated.

Are you insane? Heavenly Sword was regarded as an epic failure by almost every single major review media. The game got hype. Then the reviewers start to hate it because of its length. And the fanboys followed in the said hate. And then people who were interested became put off by all the negative reviews and community hate so that Ninja Theory decides that HS2 is not a profitable business direction and went multiplatform.

Gamers who actually did play the game despite the reviews loved it. But it still remains today to be extremely underrated (70 from IGN, 79 from GT, 70 from Eurogamer, 60 from Edge). In fact, there are only 2 major review media on Metacritics that gave the game a score over 90. And to me, a great game that is scored generally low (79 on Metacritics) is considered to be underrated. I'm not sure what mathematical definition of underrated you have, but it might be different.

"The Darkness," PS3/360 game based on the DC graphic novel of the same name. Its narrative and length are both wonderful! I got it, like a month after release, used for 20 bucks. I was surprised! I got sick (lasted 6 days), and I played that game all the way through my illness. 6 days of playing that game, hour after hour, experiencing the most narrative bang for my buck. It's a beauty to play! Granted, it's another FPS, but it's easy to look past that. It shines so much-- to much, to get hung up on the fact it's a FPS.

Mirrors Edge. I enjoyed it the first time through back in November, and I still find myself playing it from time to time. I have no idea why the game appeals to me so much, it just does.

I'll agree with you on that. Many people act like it's one of the worst games in the world, but it's pretty good fun. Except for speed runs. Balls to those.

Concurance! The speed runs make me upset. But the gameplay, story, and atmosphere make me feel so wonderful. I want to be so active when I play the game. I turn it off just to go work out.

Damn, you beat me. I loved The Darkness and the entire atmosphere.

I also agree with Mirror's Edge and Dead Space. Finally something refreshing that EA is coming up with. It just got overlooked because of the massive amount of AAA games that came out the last holiday season.

People shouldn't always let themselves be carried away with the hype. Try to put all your high expectations aside and you'll learn to appreciate a lot of games more.

A few years back there was a Transformers title on the PS2, based on the 'Armada' cartoon show. The game had action coming out its ears, featured highly customizable weapon/gimmick loadouts, supported the concept of explorative freedom, had great graphics and beautiful design for its time and actually posed a real challenge, even at the easiest difficulty setting; and once you'd beaten the level's boss the area actually became HARDER to traverse because there were much more baddies around than before, making exploration and collecting hidden stuff pretty difficult at times, too.

I concur about The Darkness, I still love that game... I think I might start it anew once I'm done with my written assignments.

And I miss the Tribes series! Seriously, Tribes 2 was THE most awesome team-based shooter ever to grace the world of gaming... in the standard realm of greyish-brown FPSs we have these days even a remake of Tribes 2 with a graphical upgrade would sell faster than hotcakes!

Space Rangers 2, Majesty: the fantasy kingdom sim, Ceasar III, Starsiege.

1000 times yes for Caesar III, that was a fantastic game. I'm going to say Final Fantasy 12 for mine seeing as how it's garnished so much hate over the years, that and pokemon trading card game; as far as I can tell the only under-rated Pokemon game

Heart of Darkness

Godfather: Blackhand Edition - uses motion controls very well. Smash up stuff to intimidate people, execute them, hold them down so they go into a furnace, strangle them, hurl them off a balcony... all using motion controls that really get you in the moment.

Donkey Kong Country - people are quick to pick Super Mario World or Sonic 3 as the best 16-bit platformer. For me its DKC. Hands down.
