As for me, my fave ever non-final boss would be......damn there's way too many, for now I'll go with that suggestion cuz holy shit that was scary.

Especially the glitch through the wall in the Marigold Tunnels. O_O

And of course:

Oh god, I thought I had all but blocked out that fight. It really was a great mini-boss battle, but it screwed with my head due to the levels of awesome.

The first playthrough of Shadow of the Colossus. Pick a Colossus. any one and tell me you honestly didn't think it was epic.
The tenth colossus was a let-down compared to the others.

OT: Kikinak from Jade Cocoon.

Does Jecht off FFX count, since he techniclly wasnt he Final Boss, but is pretty much the final boss in actual difficulty, or chance of dying.

Also, i do like Ridley of any metroid, there all good.

Usually when we think of Greatest Boss, it mostly is the Final Boss. So What is the Greatest Non-Final Boss in Gaming?

I liked The Helmaroc King in Zelda: Windwaker. Or Doctor Steiniman.

The Helmaroc for it's flashiness, and Dr Stieniman for is build-up through the bloody Hospital and the scene where you see him go even crazier.

Vs

Amazing, epic, emotive and finally being able to use a metal gear.Awesome.
agreed. =D

If I can get away with an MMO answer the opera event in wow was great. It is a random encounter of either Romulo and Juliana, The crone (wizard of oz), or the big bad wolf.

If that doesn't count then I will go with the Twin wizard fight at the end of the spirit temple in Ocarina of Time.
Wizard of Oz.... you mean that SNES game?
No. The 3 encounters you can get are based on Romeo and Juliet, The Wizard of Oz, and Red Riding Hood
And that's in WoW? Huh.... That sounds interesting...

Killalon and Luminous Magic Beast from Lost Odyssey
Twinrova and Dark Link from Ocarina of Time

Im not normally a fan of bosses but I'm gonna say it was Mr. Tappy from Half-life 1

I freakin HATED that boss! It took me a couple days to figure out how to beat him (or her, for the politically correct)!

Rufus Shinra: FFVII.
Not only is the fight in a nifty setting but he escapes by grabbing a helicopter.

Actually a more interesting take on 'Boss' - Von Kharma from Phoenix Wright!
You don't "fight" him like a boss, but taking him down feels just as...no, MORE rewarding. Because you beat him down with LOGIC.

Wild ARMs 3's Ragu o Ragla AKA "The Master of Beginning and End".

He has a few hundred thousand HP, an attack that kills any of your party that isn't immune to Fire and you have to fight him twice in a row.

Oh, and he has 999,999 HP and even more powerful attacks the second time around.

The Spirit Temple boss in OoT. Felt really epic. Mostly because I fought the entire battle with only half a heart. And won. Sweatiest gaming moment ever.
