Since my favorite (the chloroform line) has been used, here is a real anecdote.
I once saw a pickup line on a TV show (it MAY have been platapus man) that went something like "Set phasers to stuuuun-ing!". In the late evening, a few friends and I were out driving about and discussing bad pick-up lines. I mentioned the above line and through long debate it was decided the line MUST be tried as soon as possible.
As luck would have it, we ran across a convertable full of attractive young ladies (young as in, our age) with the top down. Deciding this was the perfect opportunity to test the line, I unrolled my window and flagged their attention, and then delivered the line in my best impression of Pauly Shore.
Their reaction is the best part. The two young ladies slowly turned to look at one another and then proceeded to stare straight ahead, and roll up the windows. It is at this point that I must reiterate, they were in a convertable and the top was down. I'm not sure what the verbal equivalent for that action is, but it was an EPIC rejection. Let this be a lesson: The ladies do not find star trek references when inserted into a pickup line.
