But my opinion is right because I can shout the loudest!
Obviously you're not shouting if you're not talking in Caps.

For example: POKEMON GOLD/SILVER, VALKYRIA CHRONICLES, SKIES OF ARCADIA: LEGENDS

So my choices are: Pokemon Gold/Silver, Valkyria Chronicles and Skies of Arcadia: Legends. They were awesome.

Top 5 for me would be Diablo 2 , Arcanum , Morrowind , Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 1 . Not in this order.

Chrono Trigger in my opinion. So many new concepts to rpg's brought to the table (like combinable tech's), great graphics, great story, indepth concepts, memorable characters and great music.

What more could you want, exept a new gen console release perhaps.

Diablo II. End of thread.
I never got the Diablo thing. Never have i played a game that required so much bloody clicking.

I would have to say either Baldurs Gate 2 or one of the first two fallouts. Morrowind also would get an honorable mention as well as Chrono Trigger.

Fallout 3, hands down. I like it primarily because it breaks out of the Tolkien-esque mold that RPGs have been stuck in for three decades, which is not to say that those RPGs were not good games. Morrowind was spectacular.

Yes, I know that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games were not RPGs in the traditional sense of the word, but the experience is very akin to that of an RPG, especially with regards to the quests. Clear Sky came the closest to becoming an RPG with the integration of the factions system (which was downright wonky at times). Then again, maybe I just feel the need to express my love of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series by pointing out that it is really the most even hybrid of FPS and RPG ever made (apologies, Deus Ex).

Golden Sun / Chrono Trigger, I say Golden Sun is better because I played it first but they are pretty much even. Chrono Trigger has better a combat system, but Golden Sun has much better out of battle game play and a wicked class system.

Dungeons and Dragons, yes i am pulling the senorioty card

on a more recent one? i have been detatched from the pc for a while, so im gonna say oblivion for consoles
ahah, well played sir, hadn't thought of that but I'll have to agree with pen and pare RPGs in general, although D&D is rather limited, wheras with fluff you can create any kind of setting and character with Mutants and Masterminds or World of Darkness, even though M&M is meant to be for superheroes and WoD only has official mods for Vampire, Zombie, Were-wolf and Mage games.

Is say inbetween Poke'mon SoulSilver because I like it light heartedness (If thats a word) for once your main goal was to enjoy yourself and wasn't to save the world for the 5th millionth time.
Mass Effect 2 was really good as well and made my Brother who hated Mass Effect play Mass Effect 1 because he was dumb struck about how much I was right about Mass Effect 2.
But greatest RPG ever... I'd say Phantasy Star 4, yeah its really old and it had turn based combat but it had the most engaging and gripping stories I have ever seen, I kinda find it sad that SEGA had lost the Phantasy Star magic for that brief early time period. (Though I like Phantasy Star Universes mass-multiplayer-online-thing its single player was lacking)

Morrowind is also a nice one, but it had its flaws, lots of times the quests I did just didn't eknowleage me completing them, still good. (I'd say Morrowind with Oblivion's gameplay and user interface will be the greatest game of all time)
and unlike all the other posted comments on here, I appear to be the only person who DOESN'T like Chrono Trigger. (Seriously, it was as boring as the Canadian highways)
